I bought Starlink and live in western Oklahoma, this is the fastest internet I have ever seen. Local was running between 38 and 45 down, anytime it went slower then 42 the tv would mess up and start buffering. Very happy so far.

The power in Watt doubles every 3dBm this means they would go from 16.2 kW to 22.9 kW (41% increase) for the v4 dish, and they will even quadruple the power for the minidish from 2.089 kW to 8.318 kW (300% increase).

You're thinking in dBm (dB referenced to 1 mW). Multiply your wattage numbers by 1000. That would be a pretty inefficient transmitter system to get 8W out with 25W in...

For me, as a "residential" user of Starlink, I'm getting around 325 down and 24 up at our ranch house in central Texas. That's more than enough for streaming tv, live up-streaming my security cams, etc. I've tried my new Mini in a few locations across Texas, and for the temporary usage, the speeds have been way more than adequate. Having said that, I can certainly see the benefits of more bandwidth, capacity, etc as the Starlink constellation grows and is used by more and more users, both residential and commercial.

Power and lowering distance is not just about the latest small Dish. It's a prep of what is to come with cell phones. The ability to use satellites for call and txt service. BTW- Phone 15 already is able to send emergency msg to those.

I can’t keep up with Starlink changes in plans and hardware capabilities, which happens all the time, but it’s for all good. I would not want to be close to an equipment that puts out so much power. Regardless of the power increase of either unit, the mini is still below the power output of the V4. The mini will produce less total radiation than the V4. - It's not an issue. Yes, it is intelligent to stay as far away from any RF source as possible - including your cell phone which is basically attached to your head when in use. - Cheers!

Just want to inform of very cool thing that just happened right as I am typing this. I have been running speed tests pretty frequently as I just got a Gen 4 dish and the test right now came in at a whopping 435Mbps download. I suspect this to be a specific satellite that flew over but this gives a glimpse into the future of what Starlink could be capable of! It'd be cool if I could add a screen shot but oh well. And regarding latency, I'm a gamer who desperately needs a better connection! I have a fiber mix copper or 'FTTC' connection and I get 65ms AT ABSOLUTELY BEST, it usually hovers around 95~105 ms!! It's super unstable and a bit 'slow' for 2024s standards (80~90Mbps) it goes down so incredibly often for as little as a minute to ENTIRE DAYS so Starlink will FOR SURE help!

There is going to have to be a trade off. How far will the new interference bump into other frequencies? I truly wish the industry would be more inclined to release those numbers to the public. Sure, most folks are not going to understand the significance of the number; however, some will. They can make that information more digestible to laymen--much like your examples in this very video. Overall, I'm excited we are getting more competition in internet providers. This will often be very beneficial to consumers.

You need to remember that the "E" in EIRP is Effective. You can raise the EIRP by changing the "focus" of the emitted signal. It could be that SpaceX found a way to optimize the phased array on the mini to increase efficiency. If they cut the beamwidth in half, that would give a 4x (aka 6 dB) increase in EIRP. (The "I" stands for isotropic, meaning equal in all directions. Think of the light from a bare light bulb, and you're close.)

The mini has a much lower gain antenna so needs the additional rf power increase to match the larger dish apparently power output. Either way, actual rf exposure between the 2 antenna will be similar. Likewise the lower mini dish gain needs a little more from starlink. IMHO, it’s a request for improvement in signal to noise, always a good thing. BTW, Alternatively, the rf front end could be improved, but at a huge cost increase due to the exotic technology needed and compatibility.

Im using Starlink in Philippines and I do experience issues during thunderstorms and otherwise heavy clouds. I have started to use snowmelt function (even if not directly applicable for such) to get more power out and I guess its working even if not having any measurements. Im hoping increase of power will help here as well.

Extra RF is not free. I hope they have a good algorithm to manage the duty cycle and don’t just run it all on full blast. Often you can increase speed and reliability by reducing total power. A good algorithm will only use the new requested power when needed but back off where possible to reduce interference.

Price depends on where you are. I can’t get hardwired internet at my house. I have a cabin 7 miles away that has Highline gigabit fiber internet for $100/month. I got rid of Viasat for Starlink and won’t go back because of the difference in latency.

The increase in power if approved? Will only increase the antennas TX EIRP , so the increase should only effecting the antennas ability to provide better UPLINK signal to the satellites. Without an increase in the satellites transmitter power, NO notable increase in receiver or download performance will be delivered to the user. A decrease in the ping and latency on the the uplink side can be provided and a more stable uplink connection during poor weather, will be seen as the antenna will maintain it's connection better and have better hand off's to other satellites coming into range. They have to hear the ground terminal/antenna before connecting and to stay in linked. So still good improvement on the units. An override option on the Mini would be great to have, for safety issues and battery saving ability. We just finished 10 days of development and testing on the Mini and off the shelf power options, the overheating issue will be made worse by increasing the power and creating more heat on the Mini. You are correct! It is a bit deceptive to say it will improve download speeds or latency. Any such improvement will be a round about overall result. And it is a bit deceptive about being a relatively small increase. The antenna is vert directional so if 3 million users uplink transmit more radiated microwave radiation to space, the total radiated power increase will be significant. This can only result in a large increase in interference. User terminals uplink at 14 to 14.5 GHZ. Starlink is not the only player using these frequencies. This will ultimately create higher background noise in this frequency range. How this effects other users is not easy to anticipate, I think there is a potentially real safety issue with the minis too. It is one thing to transmit high power levels from fixed elevated positions and another o direct this energy at humans or animals at ground level. People will likely use the minis in way les than safely. You can provide safety recommendations, but most people are idiots!! And I have little doubt that heating of the antennae will be anther issue. This is a "massive" power increase for the minis. I question whether the incremental resultant performance gains are worth it. If you look at comments here, it is obvious these folks could care less about these issues, they just want better performance.

@@tennyson4830 where is your ground station? I read he wants to eliminate them altogether. Mines about 200 miles away. Still get decent speeds even though it's like 200 miles to the south, yet my eye points north. We are supposed to have two in my state. One which is much closer but when I contacted support, they said there is no ground station in the city I told them about. Even though it shows up on Google Earth. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's a good thing I'm not the President. All Elon would have to fo is ask me if he could be the Charman of the FCC and I'd say yes. Then he could deal with this agency's BS without bothering me. Ane rhe next version of Cybertruck too, for free, with a Tesla insurance plan and in home powerwalls. All free as part of his pay plan deal. Latency is still bad here in kenya lower 60 high 170..speeds also not consistent.. Average 100 meg

Guessing it's due to the distance to your closest POP and/or ground station.

I've not had that as of late but I would guess it could be regional or even down to a certain Ground Station or Point Of Presence (POP)

Very strange. I would do a factory reset on it and reconfigure it as it normally will help when thing get wonky.

Yes. Two livestreams ago on the JC Live Show we got close and everyone wanted me to stay live until we broke it and sure enough 2hr into the stream and we broke the 100K milestone.

@@jcristina - well im sorry i missed it bud. my bad :((( but its a well deserved plague that i'll get to see on you desk tho and im brew a fresh cup and cheers you when i see it sitting there :) and no sht to brother btw... its a well deserved plague. you do so much more for your subs than others. so much more substance to your channel versus others. and i only do KZbin and for over a decade. so i'v been around lol... hey i got an idea for it now lol.. should put magnets on the bottom of it with a bent rod coming up from behind it to ontop of it, and sting top of the plague to the rod, then put magnets on the table with reverse polar side up, to make the plague float and spin around on its own. that be pretty sweet lol shrugs :)
