Light definitely isn't even on the list of most hated anime characters, number 1 on that list is probably Shou Tucker from fmab. Ik you are binging the series, but what makes death note so good is the fact that Light is so smart, besides being a diabolical psychopath with a god complex. The absolute cat and mouse chase Light and L had going on kept you on your toes all the time.

•Took me forever to figure out. That if someone is medically blind in a way that they cannot see a persons face. They might not be able to use the Death Note and Shinigami eyes. By the rules of the Death Note being medically able to see peoples faces is the lynch pin to how the Death Note works. If Light and Misa could have been blinded for good so they medically cannot see peoples faces. Death Note night ended faster. Until u count in the ownership of a Death Note can be transferred from one person to another. Even if Light and Miss could no longer medically see peoples faces. Kira could still live on. Medically blinding Light and Misa to the point of no longer being able to see faces could have been a caused by “accident.” That could probably not be traced back to those who medically blinded Light and Misa to the point of no longer being able to see faces. •Ryuk can choose who he gives the Death Note. And also randomly drop the Death Note and see who picks it up. •Be funny as hell if that was what the Death Note Anime was like. •If Light was a country he would actually be a tiny island country surrounded by water. The only thing on that island would be a Death Note. The country of Light would have vastly small amount of currency or no currency at all. Nothing besides a single Death Note to offer any country.

To answer your question: The Shinigami(Japanese for Reaper/DeathGod) normally has the freedom to choose or just randomly spawn the note for someone. And, in Ryuk's case, he just accidentally dropped it coz he's bored as per his own wording of it... That's just how I'd explain it without spoiling.. He just literally said "I accidentally dropped it cause I was bored" Hope this helps :)

The best part about Light is the debate if the good outweighs the bad. Light killed 99% criminals, and 1% innocents trying to catch him. While Kira was active, worldwide happiness and safety went up, and taxes went down thanks to Death Row essiently becoming empty and Crime Rate dropping DRAMATICALLY since everyone, and every criminal, not wanting to go to prison and then die from Kira. Light ACTUALLY made the world safer, happier, and more prosperous. The catch? Light had to kill about 10 innocent people and manipulate 5 to make it happen. So was Light kind of an asshole with a god complex? Yeah kinda. But did he make the world a better place? Also yeah kinda. So was it worth it?

Yeah, Light is up there with the psychopaths 😂 I am glad CJ showed Johan as a comparison (the blond guy from the anime Monster), but at least Johan has somewhat of an excuse since his childhood was extremely warped. Light was just an egomaniac who lusted for power to the point of mass murder. What's even more ironic is the point that when he was on the verge of death after getting shot, he was calling out Takeda's name 😂 his ending was sweet. There is a spin-off manga where Ryuk is in the shinigami realm with another who's speculated to be Light since he was unable to go to heaven or hell. So possibly, the Shinigami realm is that void! I mean, all they do is lounge around all day, so it would make sense.
