The middle dam (two tiles tall) you added this episode is what is causing the surges. By zig zagging across the water, you added extra edges for water to flow off of (6 edges for those 4 dams). If you reduced that down to 4 edges (replace some dams with levees) it should stabilize and not surge like it was.

On well-being: something I've noticed in your playthroughs is that when you start working on well-being you tend to go for a big juicy recreational building, realize it's hard to fit in or build, and then moving on. But there's also tons of decorations and such that have negligible footprint and cost that provide comparable bonuses. Kudos for giving it a fair shot this time around!

Seriously anything that automated the turning back on of buildings for JC would likely be a godsend :P Time to swap out the Floodgates for Sluices? so that it automatically re-enables the flow of good water after a bad tide.

Just barely managed to catch up. Unlocking the large barracks would be a good idea before you end up building too much stuff up onto/around the current barracks. That empty crater surrounded by dead trees up on top of the main plateau is just calling out to be filled with water to use the surrounding land for crops or forestry. With the size of the map, I also think moving things like housing and activities for the beavers to that central ridge (the level the dynamite factory is on) would help with keeping the fertile ground and river areas as widely available for agriculture and industry as possible while not making them have to travel too far.

I like the idea of straightening out the river for draining the mixed water! For the old section would it be possible to place irrigation barriers between if needed, and then put a water dump (or aqueduct) to fill it? That'd irrigate a bunch of the upper area on the other side of the map, giving you somewhere for future crops, more trees etc :)

→ Aesthetics: At least get them a shrub and tiny roof near their home, two easy well-being points. (Partially done by the end.) → 22:30 Sluice versus dams: You don't want a sluice here, at least not as a replacement of the dam. You want to retain water here plus avoid flooding the upstream area - that's what a dam is for. A sluice is made to regulate water based on the downstream depth - it's good when you have a reservoir without exit which you use for irrigation, but not where you want water flowing through for your water wheels. If you build a sluice here, you'll lose all water during the drought, or get flooded during the wet season, or you'll have to manually open and close it just like a floodgate (and micromanaging this is not something you are good at). → Don't forget to reconstruct your gear warehouse - you got all the gears lying on the ground. (Fixed 46:20) → 28:31 The water here is less than 50% bad water, so it's not as dangerous for your beavers. → 55:20 You can build a platform over these irrigation barriers, and still get your centrifuge in. I think having them there (and similarly on the lower levels) is more useful than putting them at the bottom of the cliff. → 1:02:48 A single stair to the levee around the badwater would be enough to reach the irrigation barrier construction places, no need to demolish crops. → 1:05:00 You missed one of the scavenger flags for pausing. (It's maybe better, so you don't run out in 5 episodes.) Suggestions for the next time: → Get a sluice gate and use that to automatically let clean water into your river. Alternatively, connect a stream gauge there and open the floodgate depending on contamination. → If you build a stack of warehouses or two where you placed the dynamite to get rid of that corner of terrain, you can put the inventors on the top. → Also, maybe automate your water pumping (the mod you have can do that too), so you have all pumps running during the wet season, and off during drought and bad tide.

Regarding your question around the 4:20 mark, you can absolutely build on top of an upward power shaft and transfer power that way. I decided to try keeping my power a little neater in my latest play-through and tried that out, and it helped tremendously. Now I can cross a road with power by using 3 dynamite to create space for two upward shafts into the buildings I want powered and a straight shaft covered by a platform for the road to go over. Of course, that requires me to have the forethought to create that little channel before I can lay in either building, but that's always a future me problem! I do get to build my little power towers for gravity batteries a lot cleaner now though, which is a huge help. It's pretty rare for a powered building to be able to be stacked, but for those few that can stack you can also just take power from the top with a downward shaft, if that works better for your design than building directly on top does. Now that we've seen them take the vertical power shafts that were originally a mod and are now a base game feature, I really hope we can see the same thing happen with ladders in a future update.

You could look at that plateau above the bad water. there is a natural basin. If you blast a channel along the top from the water source to that basin that would open up a huge swath of land for growing trees or food. Also since you easy access to the roof tops of the barracks, you can put passive well being like shrubs and beaver statues and such. If you build beaver housing over the river you can build it in such a way that they have to enter and leave through the water so they will all get the wet fur perk. By building vertical over the river you would save much ground level space for growing treed or food.

There's two lumber jacks across the river from your industrial area that you could turn off and get two beavers back. Also watching you troubleshoot always teaches me something, so don't fret. :) The iron teeth's food tree is so finicky. It drives me crazy! The surging has definitely gotten weird since update six. I've started only putting stuff by the river if I'm okay with it flooding periodically.

Something I've been thinking about for the last few episodes since you showed off the overhangs and impermeable floors - I wonder if you could route the badwater river along that middle cliffside? Between those and levies and platforms, and the badwater source being so high up, it seems like you could use the cliffs to create your own badwater canal and stuff it full of the large waterwheels. It'd be a massive project, but that would leave the entire area down below for farming, and then the industrial stuff could be put up on the top cliffs.
@seandickson4474

Could you put contamination barriers at the bottom of the waterfall? Would that prevent some of the spread in the river during bad tide? Also for storage, could you cap the river with platforms and stack with ladders? Gravity batteries, the only thing I can think of is research platforms and come off out by the bad water source. you already have a power shaft there so would not be hard to connect. Also, couldn't you use the platforms to build over the farm area? I know it would be resource intensive, but could come off an aqueduct from the waterfall. Make it multilevel since water now falls with a sluice to shunt the bad water over to the bad water river. I know is a long term thing but might be begin planning stages

Something that wouldn't be a terrible idea, maybe put some small waterwheels at the badwater waterfall cus you can never have too much power. If anything, could build a Numbercruncher connected to it for more passive science since you could use that too.

I want to take advantage of the new overhang platforms to combine with decorations. Maybe just use the 1x2 platforms, then dig down in the middle of common paths, so I can just bury the decorations on several layers of platforms to get the bonuses without struggling to organically incorporate them and maximise space.

22:10 A Dam should be the same as a floodgate set to 0.65. This map _does_ surge. I haven't figured out why yet, I think it's got to do with the 2.2cms limit for edges, but I haven't figured out how (i.e. the 2.2cms limit causes the water to back up, causing the water level to raise, a full tile of water is not subject to the 2.2cms limit, so it flows without restriction, causing the water level to drop again, and repeat).

To irrigate an area you need a 3*3 water hole, or 5*5 if you use levees and not dynamite, but that needs a water dump and then the farm/forestry buildings take space. Also there’s the water reservoir using more space… Here’s a way to make it vertical, taking up less space with a water tower reservoir with built in platforms for the farm/forestry buildings! 1) Fill in the hole with platforms then at ground level build this ◇ ⬜︎ ◇ ⬜︎🔵⬜︎ ◇ ⬜︎ ◇ ◇ impermeable floor ⬜︎ levees 🔵 water We can now prepare to put overhangs off two opposite corners, with ladders on the others. 2) place a stack of 4 ladders on opposite corners, and a double platform on the others two. 3) now put 4-long overhangs on top of the double platforms on the corners to support a large platform on a single platform. it should end up like this; ◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯🪜⬜︎ ⚫︎◉◉◉◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯⬜︎🔵⬜︎◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◉◉◉⚫︎ ⬜︎🪜◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯ ◯ large metal platform ◉ overhang (underneath large metal platform ) 🪜 ladders 4) Now put an overhand platform 3 long going along the side of the large metal platform with the longest overhangs on top like this; ⚫︎⚫︎⚫︎ ⚫︎⚫︎ ● ◯◯◯◯◯ ⚫︎⚫︎⚫︎ ⚫︎⚫︎ ● ◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯🪜⬜︎ ⚫︎◉◉◉◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯⬜︎🔵⬜︎◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◉◉◉⚫︎ ⬜︎🪜◯◯◯◯◯ ◯◯◯◯◯● ⚫︎ ⚫︎ ⚫︎⚫︎⚫︎ ◯◯◯◯◯● ⚫︎ ⚫︎ ⚫︎⚫︎⚫︎ ⚪️ overhang platform The long overhang platforms on the sides let you wrap a path around the core pipe from the reservoir above. Letting you move all paths from ground level to bridges/overhangs at this level Repeat steps 2-4 on top of these platforms to extend the pipe up and provide the floor of the water tower reservoir. Cover everything but the outer most block in impermeable floors. To expand the reservoir further put overhangs on the outer edge of the platform with levee blocks behind them.

iirc the 1x1 pipe would end up having a faster evaporation rate, so may end up wasting more water than is required.

Glad to see such great advancement so quickly, but don’t slack on the wellbeing! “Aesthetics” refers to the decorations in game that give a wellbeing buff just for having them, not necessarily about how “aesthetically pleasing” the village is. “Fun” category wellbeing requires the time spent at the activity to take advantage of the wellbeing buff, and won’t give any buff without participation. Lowering your working hours will give beavers the time to eat/drink/recreate, while aesthetic wellbeing buffs do not require any extra effort past the unlock, placement, and construction. Overall, if you add more “fun” or “social” you need to decrease working hours (the buffs they’ll get will make up for the time lost with work and movespeed). 18 hours a day is fine when there isn’t anything for the beavers to do, but with how far away they live from their homes they need more time in the day to get buffs. Adding decorations and “aesthetics” are the best way to improve well being score with minimal effort involved. Keep in mind food processing not only takes up space/time/resources (not to mention the time taken to eat the food and where you store it) for relatively small wellbeing buffs. Mathematically, corn rations add the same value as a small roof, a shrub, and a beaver statue but takes up so much more time/space/workers/power, so why not build both? Would love to see a numbercruncher soon, would DEFINITELY improve how many bonuses you are able to unlock!
