JD 1025R front axle final drive deep dive (leaking seals)

The front axle seals on the final drive for my 2016 John Deere 1025R were leaking pretty bad. I decided to completely disassemble one of the final drives to really clean it and learn how it works.
My seal part # is TR109398
If you have a very very early 2016 or earlier tractor your part # is probably LVU802855. If you have a newer model, I don't know what your part is.

Thanks for the video and you did an excellent job. My brother has that 1025 R with loader about that same year so I watched to see what's in there. Nice tractors but I'll stick with my nice 1984 750, 4wd. with p.s., #64 loader and turf tires.

What are your thoughts on Hydro fluid vs something heavier like diff fluid ? I feel the front axle is over stressed easily and a heavy fluid might help. Thoughts ?

Hard to say. The entire final drive is soaking in the fluid. Heavier fluid might cause some resistance, but it's probably not noticeable. I will say that I noticed zero wear or damage on any gears or bearings after 600hrs. My fluid was black too! So, the hygard is probably just fine.

How do you get the old seal out?

It was a huge pain! I used screw drivers, little pry bars and partially cut it with my electric Dremel and cutter wheel! There's no easy answer. Just be extremely careful to not cut/ding the metal that butts up to the seal.

In my opinion....bearings should always face up where they can be read...thinking being you can get the part on order before you remove one. Just an opinion.
