The tractor was acting like it was starving for fuel after running at high RPM's. After doing a little bit of research we decided to replace the prescreen inside of the fuel tank.

Great video ! Concise and easy to follow. Our JD 5055D had the same issues. Changing the prescreen totally resolved them. Tractor is running strong as ever again. Thanks !!

I only pump filtered diesel into all of my tractors (new ones too) and still had to pull the tank screen on my 5075E at 58 hours. Looked like it was fouled with dead diesel slime carcasses. I'm religious about using Killem algaecide to keep the slime in check. Danged if I do and danged if I don't. Problem with bio-diesel and low sulfur diesel: slime grows no matter what you do.

Just a tip.. to get by temporarily you can pull the fuel line off up at the fuel filter and blow it out with a short burst of air to clear that screen off.

I also kept the old one and cleaned it up, and put it on the shelf so I have it ready for next time. Because it will happen again.

:::crossing my fingers::: I'm off to pull the fuel line on a 5055 to take a look. Puppy runs for 30 min or so then dies as if it's run out of fuel. 10-15 min later... rinse and repeat. (thanks for the upload)

sounds like exactly what was happening on mine. Let us know if this fixes your problem.

@@ARR-SHOP woooohooooo.... Ole Johnny is back in action. I pulled out the screen and it was encased in algae-looking gunk. Cleaned it really good with a soft bristle brush and water from the hose. Running great for over a week with ZERO stalls. Thanks for the tip.

Do you have the part number on the Prescreen Filter you replaced in this video? Thank You.

Sorry I don't remember the part number I went to the dealer and they pulled it up for me.

Do you have to buy the whole valve, or can you get just the strainer and install it in the existing valve? Great video.

I only found it as a whole piece. I did save the old one and cleaned it up and think it would be reusable.

We have to take ours out every couple years & clean it. We’ve never replaced it though. Cleans up good with carb cleaner.

The dumbest design for a fuel filter. Best thing to do is to remove it and throw it in the trash. Add an external inline filter to supply line. And make sure you drain some diesel from the bottom of your fuel tank WEEKLY
