John Deere 5045 E Fuel Filter

What to do when you experience loss of power and see ECE code 157.01, 1569.31 & ICC code 2818.31 on you John Deere 5 Series Utility Tractor. These are fuel related codes and usually point to a colgged fuel filter. There is also a screen in the fuel tank that can cause similar issues. Tech at the dealership recommends removal of that screen and putting an inline filter between the tank and shown filter as a better fix.

My 5075E is older than yours and it’s on the other side but I filled the new filter with diesel before screwing it on. Cranked tractor and pulled throttle lever up high. I did not have to reprime anything

There is a fuel shut off under the left side of the seat where the fuel line comes out of the tank. If you drain the tank and screw the valve out it has a filter attached to that as well you can clean with brake cleaner. It’s usually nasty

I just used a pair of hose pliers on the rubber hose and held the line closed. It definitely leaked fuel out before I did that. Didn’t hardly loose any fuel and worked great

Looking for help I have 2015 5045e a stick pulled the wires out of the diagnostic port and I don't have any idea which one goes where a diagram would be greatly appreciated would be glad to pay for the information. Thanks

You need a filter on your transfer tank and connect the pump tube correctly

Have to install a shut off value. Fuel flowing is a pain and a waste. Valve is easy to install in fuel line.

I have the same type filter you have. What is the part number. The only one I can find doesn't have the glass bowl and slips up inside the mount and uses a retainer ring to hold it on.

Does the clear bowl fill up on it own?

It should fill up. If it is slow to do so or doesn’t at all you have a blockage of some sort. Most likely culprit is there is a screen type filter inside the fuel tank that will easily develop algae that prohibits flow. John Deere recommends removing and adding an inline filter between the tank and the filter in the video.

Thanks for the info I have a 2022 5055e and the fuel gelled up on me I am having a heck of a time getting the separator to seal back to new filter put new rubber washers with a dab of oil rubbed around them.

There should be two rubber seal rings. One goes between the filter and the separator bowl. The other goes between the bowl and the black art with the drain. I’ve changed mine several times and haven’t had trouble getting it to seal.

Check the screen in your Fuel Tank, it might need changing also

Don’t forget about your in-line fuel filter!!! That thing about killed me figuring it out. All the same symptoms. In the line right outside the tank.

Bro.. u didn't show the process, did u have to unplug the wire to unscrew the plastic piece on the bottom? Today I got the little red lock on the plug to unlock, but had to leave b4 I could figure out the next step. Couldn't get it to unplug. Thot u was fixin to show me the way.
