I own this helmet for a few days now around 400 miles on it I have a Triumph 1200 Scrambler I spent around 100 miles off road and about 300 on road. The bad it's loud the opening is to big and with no chin guard which I will never buy another helmet without [ I did no it did not come with one] I rather have it then not. I new it would be a little loud even with my earplugs on it's loud ' the chin straps the right is at lease 3inches to big and the left two inches small laughable. The vents on top do nothing the padding covers the wholes could be fixed. The shield when you close it does not close all the way you have to push it down from the top to much flex. The good it light ' comfortable looks good' eye port is good ' glasses good' no fogging good. Off road this is a good helmet on road not so much. I did get get both the short an long peaks both are good even at high speeds. Build buy riders I have no ideal what there riding I been riding for 40s years anyone who rides wouldn't build or made so many mistakes I'm sorry to say.

As an engineer, I can see that the engineers at John Doe are enthusiasts. They benchmarked well and picked every good point and therefore from a first glance nailed it. I very recently got an Arai Concept XE, but at this price point and the clean looks and the sheet amount of options, I will think about this one. But jeah...first trying on is a must!

I was about to buy the arai concept xe but now I’m thinking this one
@madcoyote2 ай бұрын
@@hummel003 I would for sure recommend to try both on and then decide. For me the Arai did fit the best and I got one a very nice blue colour. Big negative is the visor opening mechanism from Arai...it really needs getting used to and even then still not the nicest.
@hummel0032 ай бұрын
@@madcoyote tried the arai and idd I am hesitant between that beautiful blue or the brown one. I thought the opening mechanism went fine once you knew how to use it. Only thing is the price. It’s almost twice as much as the John Doe one. For me the sound inside the helmet is very important but that’s a thing that can’t be tested up front
@madcoyote2 ай бұрын
@@hummel003 I have a brown red Kawa Z650RS, but that has some nice sparkly flacks. The flat brown from the Arai didn't really got me...the flat blue I love, even now after some weeks. Price...I used some discounts and overall got the helmet + a tinted visor for 630€ I missed the chance to get it really cheap for 500€ (without extra visor) around last year's black Friday. But yeah...still a lot more expensive. Regarding how quiet...the Arai is really good, but not the best as maybe some other touring helmets. I actually used the Concept to go touring and I think it needs a little more chin close off. But I heard you could get that one from the Quantic. Overall the Arai is for sure is currently one of or the most quiet under the Retro style helmets. About John Doe I can't say, but I assume that one will also be good. The sealing of the visor looks good and it has a clean shape. When the John Doe is somewhere in a Shop, just ask if you could use it for a spin.

This is absolutely brilliant. If only if only the trim piece arouns the visor opening and the bottom of the helmet had an option for brown leather, perhaps chrome painted for a refined look and an a chin fanbric bottom it would have been perfect. But this is really so far as close as we got. Incredible.

Does JD offer different crown pads like Shoei does with it's Glamster? The crown pads usually tend to be to thick thereby preventing the customer to chose a size down (with a smaller outer shell). E.g. instead of size L I can wear a a size M shoei with smaller cheek pads and a slimmer crown pad. This saves weight, saves bulk, saves air resistance (and possibly noise) and it saves the looks, of corse.

I got this helmet last week. Literally on my third ride the snap button that holds goggle strap on the back just snapped! I must admit that the quality of snap buttons is extremely poor. Also, the PU leather parts look very cheap. I almost regret buying this helmet over Shoei Glamster. Anyone trying to decide whether to choose this one over Shoei Glamster, go with the Glamster. I’d say that the build quality is not up to the established helmet manufacturers.

I'm so curious about the economics, quality, and trade-offs of this. Arai and Shoei are famous for making their own helmets in their own factories using decades of continuous improvement. When I see a sub-$400 helmet from a company with no helmet history, I presume a lot of it is engineered by a Chinese factory and finished with the brand's sticker. I expect a plastic shell, minimal shell sizes, and not much focus on quality/safety. (TBH, Dainese is probably the biggest moto gear company on the planet, and much of that describes their lower end AGV helmets too.) It looks like John Doe did a really nice job on the design of the JD/ONE. I like that it has unique shell sizes, a 22.06 safety rating, and premium shell materials. I wonder what the safety design/testing regimen looked like, and how it compares to what Arai or Shoei would do. It's amazing that they're selling this for half the price that either of those would cost you outside Japan. Maybe it's a fake-it-til-you-make-it play. Reusing shell sizes is a ploy used to minimize costs, especially on helmets that do limited volume. If they did this helmet in two shell sizes (like the price implies), it would be a big shrug - indistinguishable from any other no-name helmet. It would make me think they bought some predesigned EPS foam in China, wrapped it in plastic, and slapped their sticker on it. By making a helmet with a carbon+fiberglass shell in 4 distinct sizes, they're bucking those expectations and putting themselves in the same consideration set as Arai and Shoei. If it works, maybe the premium helmet consideration set in a few years will be Arai, Shoei, Alpinestars, and John Doe. That's worth overspending on your first volley for.
