JD at the Metropoulos amp shop digging a '59 Bassman and a EP-4 Echoplex. The guitar is a Gil Yaron burst replica.
We had a great day and a half hanging out, playing vintage amps and guitars (including 1960 Les Paul!), geeking out on stuff that only guitar and amp geeks can get into and just having blast. Easily one of my favorite things to happen in a long time.
JD plays like a man possessed, after hearing him play through my vintage amps I went from calling myself a guitar player to calling myself a guitar owner. LOL

I too am just a guitar custodian at this point :) I dunno if you remember me, you lent me your 50w Plexi for around a month many years ago just after I left Shand Electronics. Hi Dan! That must be 20+ years ago! Hope you're doing great. There are a few players I've stood next to that have changed my perspective of guitar playing. JD is one of them. When you witness absolute mastery of the instrument it puts things into perspective. Sadly, in my case. LOL The guitar is still my master, not vice versa.

+John Gillispie still gonna have to disagree with you there... JD's playing is a lot more creative and versatile and while Joe is incredible as well JD literally has edged him out in every video I've seen, even the ones of them playing together. In my opinion there's no question that JD Simo is a superior guitarist.

No, you're right. When he was in Don Kelly's band he didn't have time to teach himself the more "conventional" method of chicken picking, so he improvised and learned how to replicate the chicken picking sound by purely flatpicking (which to me is even more impressive).

Actually he does. Many of the early inventors of the style didn't play using the modern pick and fingers method. Instead they used a pick and palm muting to get the clucking sound.
