I like JD Simo. He's a great player and should be better known, but Dumble amps, and I've heard a lot of demos of them, are another story. There is no question that these are very fine amps, but even when I hear an excellent demo of one when you can really get a good idea of the buttery tone and versatility of the amp, the difference it makes over other amps of the type, Mesa Boogie, Fender Twin, is not enough to make me want one or even to want one of the Ceriatone clones. Maybe I'm not that much of a tone freak. I think your playing style has to fit the tone of the amp to a great extent. Robben Ford's style of playing, what he plays, his phrasing, etc., are perfect for that buttery Dumble tone. It wouldn't be the right choice for other players. Just an opinion.

Very Santana ish. Makes sense since his original Boogie was, I believe, a modded Princeton. Power section breakup gives that hyper crunchy rhythm tone.

It's him not the bloody amp. Nothing is worth the nose bleeding price of a Dumble
@Dagger_3236 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Woolfenden Dumble amps are way overrated, and I agree, it’s JD’s playing and the guitar, not the amp. Plug into any old Fender or Plexi and you’ll wipe the floor with a Dumble. “Boutique” amps of any kind are a joke.

@Dagger_323 Жыл бұрын
@@jimgchord It's unfortunate for you that I do have a clue, because I've played all the amps in question. I will take a Marshall or a Blackface Fender over a Dumble every day of the week, and twice on Sunday!
@jamesemerson4102Ай бұрын
@@Dagger_323 A Dumble played by the person who it was intended for is pure magic. Robben Fords Dumble doesn't sound good? Dumble was a genius. His amps sound magnificent when played by the intended player. Think of SRV playing his SSS, Robben Ford and Larry Carlton with their ODS amps. Some of the best guitar sounds ever captured in history. The unfortunate truth is that a lousy player will make these amps sound terrible and they will actually sound worse than a cheap amp at that point. They are designed to bring out your full personality on the guitar, and if you have lots of work to do on the guitar, It's going to show and it's not going to sound good at all. Unfortunately with expensive amps, you get a lot of wealthy people who can't play guitar trying them out, and complaining that they suck or are overrated, when it's usually the player, not the amp.
@Dagger_323Ай бұрын
@@jamesemerson4102 any amp played by a great player is magic. Dumbles themselves are vastly overrated and are not any better than a vintage Fender or Marshall. The hype surrounding them is completely ludicrous and the price they go for is obscene. They are absolutely not worth that kind of money. And for the record, old non-master volume Fenders and Marshalls are just as unforgiving and honest, and require just as much proficiency on guitar to make them sound good. I'll still take them any day over a Dumble.
