Due to hearing loss, Walz was non deployable to combat zone. His decision to retire a year earlier meant they could establish a new command structure well before deployment instead of on th plane going over.

Military family member here. Walz enlisted in 1981 and served 24 years in the Army National Guard. He put in for retirement before the National Guard knew they were going to Iraq. Plus most active duty military have to retire after 20 years. Walz more than served his time and is a veteran like all military members. Plus JD Vance was never in combat; he was a public affairs guy. He can go pound sand.
@hapwyatt45502 ай бұрын
Walz joined the Guard when he was 17 years old in 1981. He had left the Guard just before 9/11 but after 9/11 he signed back up even though he wanted to start his political career. In 2003 he was deployed to a support unit in Italy where he assisted his unit's contribution to the European Taskforce -- a staging area for supply support, training, and air-support. Anyone that knows the military knows you go where they send you. Walz attained the rank of command sergeant major. In order to keep that rank he had to finish his army schooling to maintain that rank and commit to additional years of service. Walz decided in 2004 to retire from the Guard so he could start the next chapter of his life. He retired in 2005, but because he did not finish his command sergeant major schooling before he retired, his retirement was processed at the rank of master sergeant. Walz served 24 years and some months in the National Guard. He was at the end of his military career and wanted to run for office as his next career. His unit was notified in 2005 they were being called up within six months. Walz already had planned to retire from the Guard before the call-up notice. The military does not rely on one person. The military is a unit where there is always a soldier behind you ready to step up. It is not stolen valor. He served. He served in the war. He reached the rank. Where is the stole valor?

I never heard of Walz a week ago, but anyone who spent 24 years in the US military deserves respect. Vance wasn’t the one who brought it up. It was originally brought up when Walz first ran for governor by his men who served under him. The story was vetted and found to be fact and then the paper didn’t run it. When he was known to be the vp pick the story surfaced again by the men who served under him and they were pleased that it wasn’t going to get squashed again. Incorrect: it was originally brought up in a Facebook post in 2018 and amplified by Alpha News a right wing conspiracy website. When it was fact checked by real people not right wing loons, it was found to be somewhere between substantially misleading and outright lies. Timeline: 2002 medical review board recommends retirement due to service related hearing loss (artillery). Walz convinces them to let him stay in. 2003 Walz deploys to Europe as support for Operation. Iraqi Freedom. 2004, Walz puts in his papers. February 2005, files papers for Congressional Candidacy. May 2005, Retires. July 2005 former unit put on alert October 2005, 15 months after Walz submitted retirement paperwork, unit deploys. Let’s ask Lt. Bone Spurs what it’s like to serve the country, besides being a joke of a president

Why is MSNBC so afraid to call the kettle black?

I spent 2 of my 33 year career deployed. Jethro Vance was too weird to serve more than 4.

Stolen Valor is when someone says they have military or combat experience when they don’t. Has Walz ever claimed experience he doesn’t have? BTW - two words: bone spurs

As Shady Vance is claiming in his hypocritical criticism. Regards from a Tom :)

JV Vance has no idea what stolen valor is.

Interesting. I have yet to see an incident of stolen valor by a Democrat. Every one I've seen reported it was a Republican. But that being said, since when was J.D. Vance in a combat zone? Yes he served as a Marine in Iraq but it was as a combat correspondent for six months in late 2005. He was in Public Affairs for God's sake, never, ever in harm's way. He even said himself he was "lucky to escape any real fighting". Look it up.

"Not getting a venereal disease was my Vietnam" remember when spankie said that? I think jd should avoid the military one upmanship.
