The average WNBA salary for the 2023 season is about $147,000. They just moved the schedule length from 36 games to 40 games. That’s still over $3,600 per game. Many people don’t make that in a month. They play games every 2-4 days. The MINIMUM salary is around $75k, not $50k. They’re complaining about being overpaid if you look at the fact that the league wouldn’t survive without the NBA’s funding.
@cryptaku3404

@@cryptaku3404 for that, you’re 100% correct. Would you agree, though, that they are being compensated more for their play on the court than anything else? Checks from these contracts in both leagues are calculated on a game-by-game basis. They aren’t calculating how many press appearances you make, how many times you do community work. How could you even negotiate the value of that? If the conversation is pay, then it’s limited to what they’re paid for.

The WNBA started off wrong. They started the league in NBA cities and a lot of those initial cities didn't have a history of supporting womens college basketball. Now, they've lost teams and only have 12. There are a lot of extremely talented players that are getting cut even after being drafted high. They should take the next few years and look at areas around the country where they can expand to. They should get the total number of teams to 20 then adjust the revenue percentage that the players receive. Areas that could be ripe for expansion are Va. Beach, Greensboro NC, the Knoxville Tn. area, The Bay area of Cali, Orlando, Richmond Va., and Houston.

I will admit that the wnba marketing and front office staff are terrible. Look at all the missed opportunities they fumbled this yr. They asked Cheryl miller to coach the all star team at the last second. They are clueless

For those comments saying that women should watch thw WNBA, I am a woman who does and its actually really hard to get access to it. The only games that are shown on TV are the Sunday afternoon games on ABC and occasionally NBA tv games, otherwise you have to have premium fir CBS sports network or Amazon prime. It's all messed up. Plus their marketing is terrible. You won't know when the all-star is until days before compared to months before for the NBA.

It sucks because basketball is such a size and explosion based sport. Without dunking it's much harder to sell. Female athletes like FloJo, Marion Jones, Simone Biles, Serena Williams etc can make a ton of money, but just not in basketball. But the WNBA continues to be propped up like a zombie by the NBA, making it look like female athletes in general aren't worth watching, which is a bad impression to give to everyone.

I actual agree with her on the point that the women's game is evolving. The reason it has been such low quality for so long is because the pool of women actually pursuing a career in basketball has been so minuscule for so long. I think that is changing significantly in recent years, and we're starting to see a lot more really good talents emerging. I doubt the WNBA will ever be near the level of the NBA, but it wouldnt surprise me to see it grow in popularity pretty significantly over the next 5-10 years

This is going to sound anti-basketball but i think if the wnba was played on a half court with one basket it would be soo much more competitive. Forget lowering the rim, change the shot clock and let some action develop for once. I think it would genuinely push the game into new territory, and provide a big enough change from nba so that it doesn’t feel like your watching a straight up inferior product. Arena football and xfl understand this, you cant simply offer the same product people are accustomed to getting at a lower level, you have to stand out.
