It’s actually kinda sad seeing all the JDM cars of the 90’s and 2000’s I saw as a kid and grew up playing them in games, reaching prices that are a silly IMO, that being said it’s then realising that I’ll never be able to afford one😞. At least I got to ride passenger in my mates r34 GTT a few years ago so that’s something.

Years ago -- at the bottom of its depreciation curve -- I bought my Lexus SC400 for $2,000 Canadian. Looking around on CL and such, if you can even find one, it's gonna be minimium $12,000. Double that, for one in really good shape. Most people don't even know what my car is, it's so rare, but shop guys do. Just took it in for an alignment today, and the mechanic said it's the same as doing a Supra, because they're basically the same car. haha $2,000 MKIV Supra. Can't go wrong with this!

Prices are due to the hype of the enthusiasts. Back in 2017, I bought an R32 GTR straight from japan for around 17-20k after EPA paperwork etc... now the price of R32 GTR's has doubled/tripled and near the 40-60k range. And I sold it for 15k. Smh. Same as my Evo 9MR. 12k back in 2019. Now in the 30k.

I've been messing around with the z32 300ZXs for like 20 years. I'm sure you've probably seen a bunch of them on my Facebook. 10 years ago I could buy a complete running driving no title parts car for $400-500. I can't even touch a stripped out shell with no title for under a grand. A good clean solid twin turbo car 10 years ago would have brought maybe $10k. Now they're bringing upwards of around $30k. Super clean ones with super low miles are bringing even more. Seen one recently sell for $80k with only 12k miles. Even the ones that are "tastefully modified" are bringing pretty good money.

I'm not extremely knowledgeable in this area but have manufacturers ever remade older cars? I vaguely remember reading it would be too expensive and would need adapting to new laws and standards. But if it's still very much seeked, why wouldn't a company offer what customers want? Is it possible?
@isaace809012 күн бұрын
Not manufacturers, but there are companies that, for instance, make every part for a 1969-1970 Mustang, 1968-1970 Charger, new AE86 bodies from China, and Nismo heritage to get new parts for Skylines and GT-Rs. When I first purchased my 1969 Mustang Mach 1 two decades ago, parts were decently available. Two years later I purchased my 1970 Charger R/T and it was slim pickings for parts which included people's used, new old stock, and in junkyards (steel prices went up, people were retiring so everything to went crushers and then cash for clunkers happened in the states). Reproduction catalogs had some things but my chrome bumper loop and grille were something I would have had to piece together from a second good grille. Now I can buy it all complete for a bit over $1000, saving hours of cussing, cutting, and gluing to get something put together. I just purchased an R33 GT-R and luckily there are a lot of OEM parts for sale here in Japan, but that is only going to get worse unless more companies start cranking out reproduction parts. Nissan isn't looking good so that could screw the Nismo Heritage parts, but places like Garage Yoshida are have parts made to repair body rust. I also have an 01 Cobra and it is in a similar, but vastly improving scenario. They just released the new 99/01 front bumper cover at LMR. Things like that are a big deal.

Because the only customers that want them are enthusiasts, which isn’t enough people to make them profitable/affordable. Just look at the Supra, it wasn’t financially feasible for Toyota to make it without collaborating with BMW.

But you need to take into account inflation, storage, servicing, etc etc plus the ever changing landscape and the general war on private motor vehicles les right now. Add onto all of this the fact that kids now don’t grow up lusting for cars or even want to drive. Take that 30k and invest it or put it into a high interest savings and watch it do much better than any car (unless of course we are talking historical, race provenance etc)

This auto translation tool, which youtube just added is so annoying. why does youtube allways force it's users to "use" their choices? When I watch an english channel, I want to listen to it in original language. Now I have to set it up to the original sound layer, each time, I start a video from an english channel... And the uploader hast to set it each upload off, if he doesn't want to use this stupid AI voice... . And they have a bug while writing comments. I see black font in darkmode. But only in this comment section here... In search it is white and in answers it is gray. 🤣 Aha! Emojis are clear? Interesting. By the way, I love your car content! I have some of your books! It's kinda crazy to see. The skyline and supra was always expensive since the day I could drive(2011). Some of these cars were really cheap though. The older RX7's,Datsun's(rust buckets),AE86 corolla,ect. Personally I never really cared for JDM cars. Always been a American muscle fan. The problem I see with the JDM market is it takes alot of money to get them built up and I could spend less then half that on a American car. I would just like to have the JDM car as a stock car. I want to experience it like the day it was new, not some shelled out 1000hp race car.
@original__gmebvy10 күн бұрын
You can always just do incremental upgrades while still keeping the car at a level that you are comfortable with for driving purposes. I just bought my R33 Skyline, a dream car of mine, crazy low miles like you wouldn’t believe at a price that’s considered impossible, but I’m not going to swap the auto for a manual like everybody else. I wanted to do a big turbo auto build like how a lot of tuners and speed shops were doing back in the day, but being that it’s low mileage I do want to just enjoy the car, so I’m taking the OEM plus route for now as far as upgrades. All I added was an exhaust muffler and a mid pipe, and a drop in filter, along with wheels and tires. Short term I’m building it up to have around just under 400whp which is the max the auto box can handle before needing upgrades. In the future my dream trans swap is the ZF8, but I may just swap to the 4 speed auto out of the 300ZX twin turbo as it bolts up to the RB25DET I have so long as I slightly widen the trans tunnel, and that will handle upwards of 600hp. And even then my max would be around 450hp-500hp even though I know the engine can handle much much more. Realistically if you would like to enjoy the car as close to stock with just a bit more power you can always go OEM plus, which keeps the car with a stock like appearance, which is something you can still enjoy and depending on what parts you get for it, at some point if you decide to sell it and get something else you’ll have a decent ROI (return on investment)

@original__gmebvy a buddy of mine bought a R32 for a good price. Atleast half of what they're going for now. I kinda stopped caring about the R34 because it just got way too overhyped and expensive. To be honest. I didn't really know anything about the R32 until it became legal to buy in the US. I ended up liking it more. The R33 was forgotten about and I think it looks better then a R34. Probably my favorite is the mitsubishi lancer evolution. But I just want that as a stock car. Stock plus ain't a bad route. Did it before on vehicles I owned. What I look for in that is to peak the MPG,performance,driving feel,reliability. Not having to lose one of those major areas. Kinda like a civic I owned. I knew many that would slam them and try to squeeze every bit of power out of them. The ride ended up being horrible. The MPG was as bad as a V6 or V8. Reliability came to the point of working on it every week. A honda civic is what it is. A economy car that happens to be little more fun. And that's where it shines. People tend to think of me weird when I say I had alot if fun with one. Have to tell them I didn't see them as fast. It was just a fun car to corner to corner, to stop sign to stop sign. All while being comfortable and getting good mileage. Easy to repair and cheap to fix. That's exactly the way I want to experience these cars. If I was to go all pit and build a car up. I would get a Ford mustang with a windsor engine and go all out. Mainly because they're easy to get, cheap to build, cheap horsepower. I just can't see the fun in spending way too much money to go fast. The likelihood that I will go fast is very short(my speeding tickets can reflect that). The ability to do it and not break the bank is fun to me. Everytime I do go overboard. I end up being more worried about what it will do and if it's going to break down. To the point I just want to get rid of it because it becomes a giant liability.
