julianlee2 Homolagation, that's what the WRC needs, I actually think the Yaris WRC looks utterly ridiculous, but it's also my favourite of the new age WRC cars. Toyota has made a limited edition Yaris but it's a FWD, superchargered 1.8 with, so nothing like a WRC car.

There's just something about the 90s JDM cars that makes them really special. I can't quite put my finger on what it is. We had Evos, STIs, Skylines GT-Rs, Silvias, Supras, Integras, RX-7s and what not. It makes me sad that all those cars (and days) are gone.
@mappy-5934

The last sentence in your statement answers why. Nowadays they make stuff for economy and pretty much have extracted all the personality their pre-2000's counterparts had. They stopped being reliable tuners and started to be the cars you buy for your kids. Most people dont even know that honda's civics used to be/could be souped up for racing;Spoons. Same with subaru/mitsubishi and their rallying scene.On top of all that, they were affordable. Look at the GTR now, compared to its r32/33 counterparts, even adjusting for inflation, they were cheaper and still are. Plus in japan, their car ownership tax process eventually causes the cars they own to be scrapped because itd be financial suicide to continue the ownership. Youll have to read more on that though as I only know very little about it. TL;DR: JDM went to Economy groupings and put off their racing group(what made them) to people with who have money out the ass to by these, once, exhalted cars;Exclusivity.

I genuinely felt sad watching that. We reached our peak in early 00's and pretty much most 'performance' cars since then have been about as interesting and fun to drive as a dishwasher. Who cares if you have 400hp in your RS3 it's driven by the pentium chip not your hands and feet. I really miss cars like this the only cars that have got close are the R26R for example.

I love these Subaru cars!!! That low centre of gravity around the corners, no need to understand that they are Rally legends. But as a guy, that fix his own car on a sidewalk in front of the house I would go for EVO. Boxter engine is hard to work on, as to do for example a head gasket replacement you have to take the engine out, wherewith 4G63 you just go with it. Even the turbo is mounted in the front so you can replace it quickly if you running on a track. Well thank you if you read this comment in full, there is no such thing as a RED or BLUE. No matter what you pick they are legends and badass! ;)

Recently I come across 90's cars driven by young people quite often. I don't know how the other countries are like, but Japan is like that, actually it is more often than late 2000's. I think it means even young Japanese don't really get atrracted to recent sport cars. I hope not only Japanese companies, but also car companies in the world think about that again. Young people's passion to sport cars will never change.
@og.takumi
@og.takumi 6 жыл бұрын
Very true, but those new strict emission/enviorment laws around the world are killing sport cars out. Many goverments and big companies are focusing on building cheap enconmic cars and electric cars instead of performance cars. Time has changed, it's just sad :(

This is beautiful, and true. I have been to Japan all my life for vacations, and yet only much later in my life I started to really love cars, and when I went back to Japan, excited to notice all the cars I would now see, I look at the cars and am ... apathetic. Kei cars are cool but I thought everyone would be driving cool cheap sports cars for some reason. Silly, and wrong. I did see a LanEvo though, and a stanced WRX. Maybe next time I'll see more. As for modern car companies, I think they are starting to care about enthusiasts, with GT86 and more new sports cars. Although Subaru and Mitsubishi will never be back again I don't think so at least :(

that evo is SO BEAUTIFUL. I love me a modded Evo, but I would rock the 6.5 Evo with that livery if I had one, and DEFINITELY keep it bone stock. Do not usually care about keeping things stock, but WOW. Japan in the 90's was unstoppable. I wish I was more conscious than like ~2 ish years for it. I can't believe it is worth less than the Subie, I would absolutely pay more for it. The Subaru is also beautiful though, and a great and worthy opponent. But Evo is definitely the winner. If I can buy a car, it will be that car. God I hope I have a chance by the time I have enough money. So beautiful.

Say what you'll about e gentleman's agreement, but the horse power cap actually make them innovative in tons of different ways to make their cars, faster, handle better and saw through the biggest technological achievement in decades
@Torque-GT

The issue was that few were actually capped. Supra's and R34 GTRs for example were well over 300bhp in standard form.

But agreed, it no doubt had an influence on innovation.

Absolutely true... the Evo... In particular the Makinen Edition saw as much as 220-230 kw... which makes sense as the times these cars were pulling "standard" just wasn't right with the power to weight ratio... Hell, my stock Makinen pulled a 12.4 quarter mile at 3000km old...about 114-116mph..iirc,. the readout has long since faded to unreadable... sadly..

Great vid. The 22b is absolutely my dream car. The TME is sweet too. If I came into alot of money, the first two cars I'd buy would be a 22b and a 2004-05 NSX.

Great review. Absolutely loved my 2010 Evo X GSR. Sadly ruined by a truck with poor brakes. Really like my 2016 STI. Great cars, both a blast to drive. Nothing else like them really.

I was always an Impreza man myself having owned both a Uk Turbo 2000 and then a P1. Watching through videos like this though is rekindling my love for these 90s cars. Perhaps a Scooby and an Evo would sit nice together in the future. Now I just need to wait to sort the funds, hmmm

I appreciate these cars so much. I don't understand why car manufacturers are drastically changing the design of cars instead of keeping the original designs with only a slight modern touch. I understand areodynamics etc. are improved but seriously car enthusiasts take to a more original design. Some manufacturers pull off the refreshes but most fail, please revert back to the original styles because these look way better than any modern Subie or Evo.
