I made my first BFS reel took everyone’s favorite $100 reel the Shimano Casitas. I added a Rays studio ultralight shallow spool and Hedgehog studio Air bearings which have not come in yet. With stock bearings and Rays spool and a medium light rod I’m getting around 55-60’ feet with a 4 gram lure. Will see if the Hedgehog bearings improve it. Love the videos

Arrived yesterday Abu LTX BFS8-L, Tsurinoya C632UL rod. Line loaded- Berkley 0.10 Firebraid, lure- Savage Gear 5cm Mayfly nymph, 2g jighead, total casting weight with snap, 4g. Reel set up as it came out of the box. I was able to cast no problem, some over runs so I turned brake to max and thumbed spool when lure landed.Much better. need to get onto water to practice accuracy etc, tried a couple of rollcasts-seemed to go okay. BFS aim pretty much achieved -which was to cast a Savage Gear Mayfly nymph, be really please if I can cast a MFN and 1g head. Daiwa air on way from Japan, that will pair up with Major Craft Benkei 64UL 1-7g, for heavier work. First outfit is for trout -4-8oz size, 2nd is for wider river where there are small pike/Zander (walleye) and chub to about 2lbs. The chub is a master at diving into snags, hence the stronger outfit. Hope thats of use. Thanks for all the reviews.

I hate to say it but I think Abu makes a better BF reel, I don’t have this reel but I do have the LTX-SHS like you had before and the ALC-BF7 that is virtually identical to BF8 besides frame being made out of aluminum and I feel they are better casters than my Shimano aldebaran bfs xg. I still love my Shimano but I can cast the Abu’s with ease. When it comes to distance I don’t notice any huge difference in them but I’m mostly more about accuracy than distance.
@THEREELTEST6 жыл бұрын
I think the LTX will win that shootout hands down. But out on the water fishing the Aldebaran and SS Air are alot less frustrating when theres wind. Abu needs to engineer an updated braking system and not wait for Doyo to do it.
@linekerkb6 жыл бұрын
I have the LTX SHS and Alderbaran and I feel that Abu is better in the UL lure. I had problem controlling the Abu but I turn the brake up to 7 and the cast was extremely good.

Raymond Ang I know I like mine and once you figure out the the spool tension and brakes they are awesome reel, yes sometimes you have to use your God given thumb brake in the wind but I’m used to that and it comes natural to me. Good deal ! I may eventually get that reel, I love the BF7,it probably fishes the same. I Believe the spool in the BF7 might be similar to the BF8. When I weighed the BF7 spool it said 7.8 g if I remember correctly. It looks like it has the same porting on the spool. I use braid on the BF7 spool without any issues, currently have around 40 something yards of 8 lb power pro on it. With using BFS stuff, casting with 2 hands feels kind of weird to me lol. Also using a regular MH bass setup feels kind of foreign, and I always use 2 hand casting with that setup. It's almost like it feels a bit heavier than it needs to be, but I am probably just spoiled with BFS gear. Biggest fish I landed with the BF7 was a bass around 2 pounds, throwing a big 5/8 oz spinner bait which was a bit heavy for the ML Xrossfield rod. Nice job landing that bass on 4 pound test with an UL!
@THEREELTEST6 жыл бұрын
sgtpavlov the BF7 appears to be a saltwater version of the BF8. same spool and everything. Somehow the BF8 was discounted as cheap as the BF7 at the time so I couldnt pass it up. I do have some things coming in that are pretty radical in my attempt to make the ultimate BFS combo.
@sgtpavlov6 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST Nice! Part of the reason I got the bf7 was I wanted to be able to have a BFS setup I could fish in a tidal river without worrying too much about the salt destroying it. I bank fished a few short times at that river, and rinsed the reel with water after I got home. Still seems fine. This year I am going up that river in the kayak. I used to do that a lot a few years ago, don't know why I stopped.

Hi reel test! I have been watching your videos for some information on bfs reels. And I should say I fish in the uk for perch, typically weights of 2-4lb. Which out the three reels do you think is the most enjoyable to fish? 1. The Abu Garcia LTXbfs8 2. Shimano Aldebaron 16xg bfs 3. Shimano scorpion bfs 17 hg I know this is a tricky question. I don’t mind putting in the hours to learn the nuances of the reel(s) of which I would like to purchase one. Nuances such as Braking, magnetic set ups for low 1/16oz weights, drag setting and spool tensioning tweaks. Thanks

i saw the spool weight on that Roxani, i think its like 16 grams.. kinda heavy for BFS. I had the Tsurinoya XF 50 out this past weekend testing a rod, I only filled the spool half way with 4lb line and damn i forgot how great that reel casts. If only they could make that frame aluminum.
@sgtpavlov6 жыл бұрын
@@THEREELTEST I could have sworn the spool was way lighter than that for the roxani bf8. I saw a few Japanese videos with a guy fishing the bf8, and in one of them the guy was fishing what looked like a 2 gram jig head with a 2" or 3" plastic, on a L or ML rod. Just looked on Japantackle.com, says the spool is 15.3, so I stand corrected . Maybe the total weight of the rig he was throwing was really around 5 grams.
