2022 WRX Muffler delete ETS exhaust install sound test vs stock boxer rumble is back!

Missing the boxer rumble on my 2022 WRX and installed a ETS muffler delete exhaust system. The fitment is perfect and build quality is OEM plus. 2022 WRX mod that sounds amazing. The Extreme Turbo Systems ETS axel back exhaust is much lighter than stock Subaru OEM mufflers. I will show you how to remove the factory exhaust and install the ETS exhaust system. 2022 OEM exhaust sound vs ETS muffler deletes at idle and under acceleration. I went for the ETS axle back with resonators to help with the drone sound on the freeway. I am very impressed with this ETS exhaust system for my WRX, it sounds perfect and looks more aggressive vs the stock WRX exhaust. Very similar to the 2022 WRX STI exhaust, but for half the cost.

Good choice! After doing the install I am thinking the same thing. I hope that the Y pipe will match up to this, so I can get rid of the restrictive OEM exhaust piping. Love the video! The lack of engine noise is one of the few complaints I have about my new car. Find myself looking at the tachometer more where with my old car I can gauge the rpm’s better by the noise. Definitely going to get these after seeing this. Just have to decide if I want the resonators or not. Do you think the strait pipe would be too annoying for long drives?

I think ETS does a really good job making their stuff and it's not super expensive. Yours sounds about a hundred times better than stock. ETS collaborates with English Racing (Lucas English) quite a bit on drag and half-mile R35's and Evos. They are only about 10 miles down the road from each other.

Hey Gary, yeah compared to stock it sound so much better. I like the deep exhaust tone at idle compared to stock. It gives just a little taste of the Subaru boxer rumble. I like the system, but I wish I would have gone with a full cat back system.

Thanks for the vid. I'm waiting for my 2022 WRX that's on order, being built. I am thinking of making an active exhaust or passive exhaust valve system. There is no active exhaust out there that I can find. So, I might be able to make one, but probably need a tuner to work with me to make it so that the ECU is tuned to when the exhaust opens full. Can do a pipe that bypasses the muffler using a valve to open/close it, based on the tune, or on-demand. --"That boxer rumble" is the headers, not the mufflers.

A bypass system would be cool, I would like to see a video on that! Unequal length header in the EJ20 and EJ25 series boxer rumble was the best. Installed mine last night. Sounds amazing, but it's loud. I would actually go as far to say it's louder than my Pro-Charged 5.0 with MBRP Race exhaust lol. I'm glad I went the muffled 5", the 4" or non muffled would be way too loud. Car pops nicely going into 2nd. The factory mufflers are definitely constricting, it revs much more smoothly and pulls better with the axleback.

@JDMRightHandDrive I traded in my 12 year old offroader with 0 modern equipment. The wrx is like a space ship to me. Recaro seats keep me in place. The turns are shopping cart fun haha. The adaptive suspension and the drive mode settings are all very different and useful. The adaptive cruise control is a surprise, it practically drives itself on the freeways. Transmission is good. I am no car expert but the S+ mode shifts so well I don't think I can use the paddle shifters as efficiently. Harmon kardon system is badass. I'll probably get an exhaust upgrade and a spoiler like you did. Other than that it's just badass. WRX rocks.

Congrats on your new WRX, I know how excited you must feel waiting for your car to arrive. I pre ordered mine as well and waited for 2 months for mine. Yes, I used the OEM exhaust hangers. All I did was remove the OEM mufflers and the ETS fit right in with no adjustment or modification needed. Simple install process and should only take about 10 minutes or so! Hope you love your new WRX as much as I do. I have put 3500 miles on mine so far and I still think it is an awesome well balance platform.

I just sold my APEXi N1 single exit since it wasn’t doing me any good for the extra power per my tuner. But I still need some noise since stock isn’t the best for at least some pleasure lol. How’s the in cabin on 75+? I had the STI axelback and that bass tone when cruising was terrible. Debating going this or the Remark Muffled. HKS Legamax is dope but the price not so much lol. Glad you have videos for everything even if it is a year old. Also I would buy those mufflers from you if you still have them haha.

I already sold my ETS exhaust. It does have a deeper bass note while cruising on the freeway and it was kind of loud. That is why I sold it because my wife would not ride in my car because it was too loud. I have the Noble single exit titanium exhaust on my car and it sound much nicer. Leave the v-band clamp and the both axle back bolts and nuts loose. Spend time to adjust both rubber exhaust hangers to line up muffler brackets for perfect bumper fitment. Once everything is lining up, tighten everything down. Good luck, I hope that helps you out.

When I got the 22 wrx, it already had the STI exhaust as package and short shifter. I really want a side by side comparison. Because I get a drone. And you seem to not at all. It sounds great and kinda loud, but deff drones 6th gear 3k rpms.

The ETS exhaust set up I have does have a drone as well. It only occurs from about 1800-2200 rpms. When on the freeway about 2400 rpms there is no drone at all. My friend has a limited with the STI mufflers. I will try to make a comparison video when i have time.

Cruising down the freeway this morning at 70 mph, you can just hear the exhaust in the back ground. It is definitely not to loud or annoying. I want to test the full cat back ETS system and see the sound difference between the two. I think the exhaust is a little on the quiet side in my opinion, but it is only axle back! At 60 to 70mph you can hear it, but its not loud and definitely not annoying. I would not consider this exhaust to have drone like a Honda Civic driving down the freeway. Hope that helps, good luck.

@@JDMRightHandDrive you get me excited to one day lease my first WRX and bolt this on for a reasonable price to get that boxer rumble that I fell in love with as a kid. My dream car may not be anything super flashy but I love the rugged, reliable and sporty look of the WRX. The hood scoop just seals the deal for me, nobody else has hood scoops like that from the factory. Just so cool for 30k. I also like that possibly with a simple flash you can get more HP out of this beefier engine. Would definitely keep this car long term if I got one. I drive a 2021 Tacoma, and while its cool its not the corner carver I itch for, can't even shift my own gears. Would love to learn how to drive a manual in my first WRX.

I think the dealers are taking advantage of the "91 Octane Recommended" and filling up with 87 or 89. After a tank of Sunoco 93 the car feels like a different animal. Much better throttle response and acceleration.

Congrats on your car by the way. You must be so excited for it to be delivered in December. Yes, I really like this ETS exhaust still. I had it on my car for about 3 months before I sold it. My wife did not like the sound of it and would not ride in my car. I am working with another exhaust company as a ambassador of their brand. The rumble comes from uneven headers, which the vb doesn’t have, you need the aftermarket ones to get that noise

Nice to know the difference that your having with your unmuffled vs mine with resonators. I did get a drone between 1800 and 2200 rpm range. Other that that I think my exhaust sounds amazing.

I removed the OEM gaskets because they would just fall off and be blown out of the exhaust. Wanted to make sure I save them incase I need to put the oem exhaust back on. Good luck with your install.💪

Sounds better but the boxer rumble comes from the unequal length header on the older EJ series engines the new F series lacks that feature as the federal government mandated better fuel economy so they had to go with an equal length header for efficiency.

I sure miss the EJ boxer rumble. I had a 02 WRX and 06 STI. Like the sound of the old solid cast unequal length manifolds. I will have to consider an after market manifold at some point, to have that epic sound back!👍

not 100% true. most of the rumble came from the UEL header. but you still get some from the engine.

to get the boxer "rumble" you would need unequal length headers. these new wrx have equal length headers hence no rumble

Any updates since adding the midpipe? I really want this axle back with their resonated midpipe but damn, for the price of this axle back I can get a resonated catback from PLM. That system has no mufflers so I’m trying to talk myself into just this axle back for now and then adding the resonated midpipe if it drones too much.

I ended up selling the ETS because it had a little be a drone sound. My wife thought it was too loud and wouldn't ride in my car. I bought the Noble titanium single exit exhaust and it sounds much better, not as loud and no drone sound.

Question for you that is a bit unrelated, the stereo system that comes in the base trim, is it any good? I commute a lot and music keeps me sane so I realllly like having a good stereo system

The base audio system is very disappointing. To much tremble and not enough bass. Does not turn up very loud. You can go into the audio settings and tune it to make it sound ok. My 2016 Mazda 6 stock stereo is much better than the Subaru. My friend bought a 22 limited with the Karmon Kardon system. I had a chance to listen to it and that system sounds amazing. I wish I would have upgraded if I would’ve known when I bought my car. I’m going to have to upgrade my speakers and see how that sounds and potentially have to add an amplifier later. At least for now though since I’m not used to the car yet I just drive in silence to listen to the engine and hear how I’m shifting and where it likes to sit for rpm and stuff. I’ve driven a lot of motorcycles but very few manual cars so it’s a bit new to me!

That's weird, mine had this tiny little stainless steel donut gaskets on them. Other videos showed the same. Is your car brand new? Happy you got yourself a new exhaust system. No the start up drone is really loud. This WRX idles around 1700-1800 rpms on cold start which is pretty high and that is why there is a loud exhaust sound.

I didn't even know about the Nameless exhaust until yesterday. I like the fact with Nameless that you can customize the size of the piping and change the tip outlet size. Complete customization is cool. I would like to hear all the different sounds from the different Nameless options.

I like the sound of the catback better, it has a deeper exhaust tone. You can also feel the car pull harder with the catback. With my setup with the resonators the car is not annoying to cruise on the freeway, but when you get on throttle you can hear some cool exhaust notes. I would go full cat back if you dont mind spending the extra money.

I considered buying an STI for about the last 5 years. After driving one, I didnt think the car was worth the money. I prefer the way the VB platform feels over the VA STI. Car feels more ridged, with way less road noise making it feel much more premium in my opinion.

I have not had the chance to hear the Nameless ones in person. My friend has a 2022 WRX limited with STI mufflers. They look very nice, but they are also pretty quiet. I would say the ETS is twice as loud. It does sound very nice if you want more of an OEM sleeper with a touch more sound. I will have to do a sound test and post all three on my channel.

I sure miss the way the old EJ20 and EJ25 motors sound with the UEL headers. My older Subaru's sounded so much better than this car. But, I appreciate how much more efficient the equal length header is and I like how fast the boost kicks in compared to the older engines turbo lag issues. I just installed the mid pipe on my car yesterday. I have some video of my 02 WRX driving from back in 2002. I think I will put some video up to compare the true boxer rumble vs ETS cat back on the FA24. Thanks for watching and subscribing!👍

You might get 2-3 hp from the axle back. You get closer to 10 from full cat back. Fuel economy might be slightly improved. I usually get 27 mpg back and forth to work. If you want more power, the intake is the best bolt on for the money with 25-35 more HP with tuning.
