A masterpiece for sure, but in my opinion it pales in comparison to the beauty of basically all Mondonville's other grand motets and instrumental works! Yes, the 'Elevaverunt' in this work is very special indeed, but as a whole piece, this one lacks behind almost all the others. See my main comment on this video for an easy way to discover the rest of his works if you dont already know them!

Indeed, but this is very much early Mondonville, he wrote this at age 23 before he had fully developed his style. His later grand motets and operas have hardly any moments like the slow beginning and end of 'Testimonia tua', because this just isn't his style at all. I personally much prefer Mondonville's incredibly unique style in other works than this typical late French Baroque sound. Please see my main comment if you're interested in discovering more of Mondonville's music!

WOW! WOW! WOW! I knew Mondonville only because of an aria from Titon et l’Aurore, but after this I will certainly be looking for more of his music

Indeed, it was digitised on the BnF Gallica (French National Library) online viewer in June 2021.

I personally prefer the very early 1981 recording of this work conducted by Paillard (it's on KZbin), but in my personal opinion this definitely isn't anywhere near to being his best composition, despite the 'Elevaverunt' being incredible! He wrote this at age 23 before he had fully developed his style. I personally much prefer Mondonville's incredibly unique style in his other works than this typical late French Baroque sound. It was logical to upload this work first as it is Mondonville's most known work. I already have other works in mind. I usually don't spend too much time comparing recordings. The one I used has more pros than cons and I like the energy of live recordings. If I would try to upload only the "best" out there it would take me days longer, and I don't have that kind of patience, plus there will be always people telling me I still picked the wrong best recording..........
