Christine is old enough to speak for herself. I think her father either didn't let her know about the program or he did succeed in erasing her mother from her memory. Sad. And very mysterious.

The way the daughter is so not interested at all about her mothers disappearance says a lot;she knows something

She was five years old when her mother disappeared. If anything, she was a victim of parental alienation. Her father likely turned her against her mother. Notice that he told this program that Christine was not interested. Why didn't he let her speak for herself?

Apparently, Jean's ex-husband passed away a few years back, so if he knew anything, he took it with him to the grave.

Maybe he did it. Did he plant the note in her purse?

Kirk wasn't Kirk Douglas but an abortion doctor named Kirk who was in trouble with the law at the time. They also left out the fact that on the night of her disappearance she was seen at a restaurant called the Cheese Box having an argument with two men.

Maybe Christine just isn't interested in talking about her mother, for whatever reason.

They should have interviewed Kirk Douglas

Too big at the time; whatever studio (I think Young Man with a Horny was produced by Warner Brothers) had a bit of an investment in him, but he alone would have been the one to be really concerned. Understand this guy Douglas was a short-tempered little prick. Never know.

I think he got her pregnant. He just had such an attitude of arrogance. Made me ill, I couldn't watch him. I don't know if he killed her though ? If she had met with him or gone to his place, she would've left the note. She still had it so she could've been grabbed in the Park first. They didn't have time to look inside and discover the note, they just ripped it off her and left them. He just creeps me out and after what he did to Natalie Wood I wouldn't put this past him.

I'm wondering if the Kirk mentioned in the note might have been Kirk Allyn, the first movie Superman? It would have been right around the time he was becoming well-known.

wait a minute, the ex husband vanished with the daughter in 1953 but was able to be reached by this show?? Maybe I missed something.

They moved to Florida, and never returned to California. It's possible that the police were unable to locate them for the time when the warrant was in effect. By the time this program was produced, Jean's mother Florence had passed away and Christine had long since become a legal adult. I think it's possible that her father brainwashed her since she has never contacted her mother's family. Sad. Dexter Benner sounds like an extremely selfish person.

4:05 she was hit by the mob, while getting an abortion, and her ex placed the body in the desert, after Kirk Douglas dug the grave?

if you were on a movie set in 1947 - you couldn't turn around without seeing a mobster: meyer lansky - bugsy siegel - mickey cohen...as for kirk douglas - he'd just done his first movie in 1946, he was certainly not an 'a-list-movie star' at that time. and i have my doubts he could get 50 large. it's an interesting case to be sure.

The Ogul-Niccoli connection is somewhat misleading and it isn't well presented in this episode. The two goombahs actually disappeared 2 days AFTER Spangler vanished. Nothing could have "happened to all three of them at the same time" as the hack writer notes in his interview.

Benza says Dexter Bennett and Christine disappeared and the cops never found them yet he then says Dexter Bennett refused a request for an interview. Huh?

If Douglas did it, why was the purse that had apparently been ripped from her, maybe, found with an incriminating note with his weird and unusually name, Kirk? How many Kirks were around in 1949, let alone now?? Rare to say the least. And Douglas in an almost panic-like action notified the police who I understand were not even thinking of him even though she had been recently in a movie with him. I don't like Douglas, never have and I won't put it past him (skirt hound with no morals as he was) but he would have been taking a huge chance. Great story. The little gal was quite a whorish person who got around, but so what? Look at that fuck Douglas? What an interesting story!

tootallbrown On another show or podcast about this case, it said that the cops did research and there were only 29 Kirks in the LA area at the time. I wonder if they spoke to all of them.

@antij1 , true, but it makes you wonder that her father spoke for her when she could have said so herself. He really seems to have had animosity towards Jean and her mother. Who knows.
