How much would things have changed if the GM just chilled for a few weeks THEN pulled the trigger. Kobe vs LeBron in the finals, CP vs Wade bro...Clippers whole roster would have been completely different and we'd never get lob city. Crazy.

CP3 was in his bag during this time. A lot of people don’t realize how much him and Kobe would’ve gelled together. Both are SUPER competitive. If we would’ve got him instead of a old busted up Nash, would’ve changed the landscape of the NBA.

@Samad Khalid which is why you have to look at the context of a player's career instead of just stats. Kobe would've gotten 2 more rings at least with CP3, which is why GM's feared that tandem so much. They cried like pussies and complained. They knew what time it was if that trade had happened.
@ExilixE

@@donniewarren8363 it truly shows what the NBA thought of Kobe. If Kobe could take Pau Gasol, a 10-20 rank player, to 3 Finals, imagine prime CP3, a top 10 player with Kobe. Would've guaranteed at least 3+ Finals appearances and 1-2 More Rings. Only just adding CP3 to Kobe and people were scared but Lebron teaming with Wade AND Bosh and people thought meh, beatable. And KD, Steph, Klay, Draymond, Iggy in GSW too people didn't think it was as OP as Kobe & CP3. crazy

And funny how the league has never bitch and moan about other superstars having 3 or 4 all stars on their teams, but they went ballistic to the point that David had no choice because they didn't want kobe to win more rings not just the Lakers but kobe and passing Jordan in rings.

stern specifically said he wouldnt get involved in basketball operations. The trade should have gone through. "basketball reasons" isnt valid to veto a trade. Meanwhile, silver lets stars under contract demand trades and who they are going to be traded to. I'd of sat Harden and Davis on the bench with years left on their deal. 0 reason to trade them for scrubs with years left on their deals. Davis won Lebron a ship that he should not have gotten. Kobe and CP3 would've gotten along great with their competitive mindset and approach to the game. Their play would have fit well together too. Also have to consider that Kobe likely avoids the achilles injury and we see him still playing at an elite level for a couple more seasons. Not to mention, if they'd ended up getting Phil back..

@@madelynrosaxoxo5490 Yes two more rings would have made him the goat probably, except the jordan fans would scream that kobe lost in the finals too so his record isn't perfect. From my perspective as an international fan over 30, kobe became the face of the league after MJ. It just didn't last long for many reasons and part of it might have been that case against him, but that wasn't part of the discussion outside of the US. He had always been beloved and still is. I guess we mostly watched him play and didn't listen to the sports media much.

I know people are quick to say Kobe would have like 6 rings if this trade went through need to realize the Lakers were gonna lose Pau in the deal. At least from what Barnes said. Pau was instrumental in their overall success as well. Who's to say they are even an improved team without Pau. Even with the addition of CP3. One of the great what-ifs though. Not having Lob City would have been interesting. What does this do for Blake's career? Deandre definitely doesn't get paid.

No. You were not a Laker fan. So how would you know. Pau was a product of the system. He was a 7footer who played the system well. But CP and Kobe playing together with Dwight would have been much more intense offensively.

This is not what happened she is just trying to make Stern to look good idk why. He vetoed it because other owners were complaining to Stern the Lakers are gonna get Paul and then Dwight and form another super team and the owners wanted to stop that since Miami did it a year earlier. Part of the lockout was for all teams to have a chance to compete. Dan Gilbert is quoted saying this trade can’t go through

Stern also said at the time that he wanted New Orleans to get Young Players and assets in any CP3 trade. The Hornets got Pau Gasol & Lamar Odom from the Lakers and Luis Scola & Kevin Martin from Houston and just 1 pick in the original deal. The deal that New Orleans made with the Clippers was more in line with what Stern wanted for the team. And objectively thinking, Stern made the right decision for the team.
