Mary I love these ideas. My husband passed away a few years ago and I still have some of his jeans. I'm going to try to sew some of these things for my children so they have something to remember their dad.❤

That's a wonderful idea. I still have some of my late husband's jeans. I'm going to 'attempt' to make these items. And then with the rest of his jeans, make some items for our children, and grandchildren. It will be hard for me to make the first cut, but once it's made, I'll be able to go through with it. I'm sorry for your loss. 🙏🙏🙏

I use to make aprons for my husband at work then I began to sell them to his co-workers. They worked in a plant that made rear carriers/axle for 18 wheeler, Freightliner etc. The grease and dust would get all over their work clothes. The denim aprons allowed the clothes to last tremendously longer even though they were work clothes. We used the extra money for eating out, watching movies etc. that we normally wouldn't spend.

I’m not a sewer, so for me the best part was watching your cats. Cats are funny. I remember reading that Hemingway who had many cats found it difficult to get any writing done when they were around because they would lay across his typewriter or chew on the end of his pencil to get his attention.

Mary, I ❤ your ingenious & sturdy denim items. Years ago, I re-purposed many jeans (even some children's knee ripped 0$h Ko$h bib overalls in cute prints) into eyewear cases, pencil pouches, coffee mug sleeves, hair bands/barrettes/bows, door threshold draft stoppers, cowboy/girl themed throw pillows, travel sewing kit pouches, roll-up sleeves for art or makeup brushes, & cat/dog bowls' placemats. They all sold well at craft shows.

Mary your story of generosity when someone gave you a brand new machine just blows my mind! I love these jeans projects! I want to know how to sew with a machine. @@vbee3571 Wow, that's great that your mom taught you so young, things learned while young tend to become second nature in a child. I was actually a very responsible teenager when I had wanted to learn from her & she wouldn't teach me. She had been very possessive about her belongings 😔.

There are endless numbers of sewing videos on Pinterest, you/tube and other social medias, for beginners to advanced sewers. After watching your video I called my mom immediately to find out if she still had my dad’s old jeans (he passed away 11 years ago). I’ve been meaning to purchase a sewing machine as learning to sew is on my bucket list and you have inspired me to do so even more!
@pepersch85093 жыл бұрын
You will love that. A little hint. Especially if you are new to sewing. Demin is heavy fabric. I have better luck with the fabric feeding through the machine if I lengthen my stitch and use a little bigger (diameter) needle. You will love having the keepsakes.
@elenak96803 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same, but with a different keepsake. We were gifted with our miracle son after 12 years of marriage and virtually giving up. I had always wanted more children and had an extremely difficult time parting with my son’s clothing. He is now going to turn 20 soon, and a bin or two of his clothing are holding memories in them. I love the feel of a heavier blanket. Instead of buying an expensive weighted blanket, I’m inspired to make one. Hopefully, I save a few of his little jeans to incorporate into the blanket. As for the bag...I could add little pockets of his very old jeans to the bag. If I put one on the outside of the bag, it would be an open reminder of the blessings we enjoyed when he wore those little pants. Lastly, the apron. I’ve wanted to make one out of jean fabric for quite some time because of its durability. Now I’m so eager to make one and include some memorable fabric to enjoy some times from the past. I don’t think I’ll let him get rid of a single pair of jeans! Or clothing for that matter!!!! 😂

I have a box full of my husband's old jeans. He passed away 13 years ago. At one point, I started cutting them into squares to make a quilt. I even kept a few of my boy's acid-washed denim jeans from the 80's. Things happened, project tabled, but this makes me want to resume that, now. Oh, I did finish one project. I made a Christmas stocking for my oldest grandson. Great projects! 🙂👍 P.S. Oh, very interesting. When you mentioned using 34 x 32 jeans...that's what my husband wore.

Great fun projects - sewing things from repurposed items is always fun. Loved watching the cats, my old guy (lived to 17) would come from anywhere in the house to “help” me sew. He would be on my fabric, on my cutting table, right up at my machine. He would get very feisty when I tried to move him. The only way to get him to leave was to shake the vacuum cleaner hose, that guaranteed he would run and hide for at least 30 mins.
