Not to discredit your comment too much, but the right-side controls are very much still functional. Note how they move when the pilot's controls move.

On my first Cape Air flight there was a slightly nervous teenager seated front row. He received a stern warning from the Capt. to *not touch* anything, as he started to grab on to various things on taxi out. I've got some very fond memories of coming into BOS on the 420 seated up in that frontseat, really an experience that one should seek out before these aircraft are retired.

I flew Cape Air from Nantucket to Boston in the right hand seat and before we took off, the pilot told me not to touch the controls - I'm assuming because they were functional. The yoke moved in sync with the pilot's yoke. It was a very bumpy ride and people in the back were getting sick - but being in the cockpit, I didn't find it at all disconcerting.

Great video! I’m completing my commercial pilots license and Cape Air is my number one choice for my first professional pilot job. Cape Air is not only focused on giving top notch service to their customers, but also to their employees. Arguably, they treat employees better than any other airline in the country; some of it at a profit-loss, just to make things better on a humanitarian level. Thanks for highlighting a little known airline!

I used to commute from Hyannis to Nantucket and back using Cape Air. I flew two flights a day for about a year, and it was great. The best flights were when it was only us construction commuters. The pilot would relax and just be one of the guys. On one flight, our pilot was racing the other plane with the other half of our crew on board. He pushed that plane until the windows were whistling. Then there was the blind fog landings on Nantucket or the roller coaster ride as the pilot kept dipping to catch a break in the fog. Nothing like having the fog part and realizing you were about to land next to the runway instead of on it. You know it's fun when even the pilot almost crapped his pants on the landing.

I flew Cape Air for the first time STL-Marion,IL just to experience a 402 finally. Stayed the night and back next day. Moved my dep up and was at airport and there was a mx issue in STL, so the flight was a bit late and they combined the return with a Cape Girardeau, MO flight, so I got the bonus of a CGI stop! And, for the inconvenience of a CGI stop, they gave the MWA pax a free rt ticket anywhere Cape Air goes. So I finally got to realize my 'dream' of also seeing the Maine coast. I flew BOS-Rockland and drove over to BHB and Acadia Park, then Portland, Augusta, etc the next day. Great trip. Am going on Cape mid-July Billings-Sidney,MT just to visit Sidney and maybe get on a P2012 as they have been playing around with them up there for a bit. Love this video!

I flew Cape Air back in 2003 Boston to Nantucket. Glad to see the Rocking Chairs are still their - brilliant addition to the airport. Anyway i was in the seat by the pilot which was fabulous as he was showing me everything was happening. When we were on the runway at Boston i looked behind and there was a 747-400 behind us, and i said he knows we are here right because he wouldn't even feel a bump if he ran over us. But fabulous flight, whenever there were turbulence you could see the whole plane move through the clouds. About weighing in, one of the guys on our flight said - that lady lied about her weight so i upped mine by 20 pounds. Me, i was wearing steel cap boots, so they weighed me as well as my luggage!! The whole thing was loads of fun :)

I used Cape Air several times out of Ogdensburg NY (about an hour south of Ottawa and just across the US border) to Boston, with a switch in Albany. I pointed out the plane just outside the airside door of the terminal as we were going from security to the lounge area and he said, "Oh, I thought that was the plane that was taking us to the real plane!" That trip was on the night that Hurricane Sandy was hitting Boston, we had a lengthy delay in Albany until the pilot came to the podium and announced, "Boston has given us clearance to land there if we have wheels up here in five minutes." With such as small passenger load we made out of Albany in time, and landed in torrential rain and whipping winds in Boston. The ground crew brought a barrel of umbrellas out to the plane for us to use on the dash into the airport.

Was incredible flying the coast at 5k & ~150kts. Weather was spectacular and was looking for whales while also following the coastline. Cape air mechanic here. About 0:56 We don't have the Caravans anymore. Our goal is to stay firmly with piston engine airplanes. And the Caravans are turboprop. We had acquired that one in an attempt to have a seaport route connecting Boston and New York. But for reasons i don't fully understand, (aside from the reason I'm about to explain) that never went through. So we sold them. Unfortunately. Haha As for a more general reason, Piston engines are overall MUCH cheaper, and much easier to maintain. And for the type of operations we do, which are short range trips, turbine engines are overkill. And the expenses outweigh the efficiency benefits. If we did longer haul trios, that might be a different story.

"Way back when" there was some inflight entertainment for flights in/out of BHB: a nearby drive-in movie theater was visible on approach and takeoff (even in its last years when it resorted to showing films which were decidedly more explicit/revealing than what one finds on the typical IFE system).

Cape Air is also an important connection to the places like Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket where they provide what is effectively commuter service between Hyannis and those two islands (and is the reason they will sell you a prepaid ten-trip travel pass). Yes, the bigger airlines provide connections to larger airports, but the schedules are seasonal and more limited while Cape Air has something like 10-12 flights a day for the thirty mile trip between ACK and HYA.

I will say, being able to check off Cape Air (and sitting right seat) from my bucket list was something else... Kinda brought a whole new perspective on commercial flying and seeing how a small airline plays a really large part for these small communities like Bar Harbor, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. Not to mention, who doesn't love ground boarding (when the weather is nice, haha). Two things that sorta stuck out the most for me during my short hop were: 1 - If anything were to happen to the single pilot, well, I guess I would've had to learn how to fly REAL quick... and 2 - landing at BOS in a C402 is REALLY unsettling when you have to taxi next to an A380... All in all, I would love to give Cape Air another go if I can find a route that has the new Tecnam P2012s...
