Every airline has pros and cons. You just have to know each carriers’ rules and weigh what matters to you. I’ve flown Spirit many times, often in the Big Front Seat. Most recently it was seeing family - Delta wanted $847 round trip while Spirit was $234 round trip with a big front seat both ways. $600 is a lot of money. In another instance Spirit and Delta were within $25. I took Delta.

A lot of people Poo Poo SPIRIT but I for one find them to be a refreshing alternative to high priced airlines. I first flew them in the thick of Quarantine so even the high priced airlines had nothing to offer in First Class other than a bigger seat. Being a big guy, that is mostly what I look for. The big front seats are just fine for me. And my first experience cost me $400 as opposed to a $4000 alternative with the major airlines. So for the savings, I could bring my own snacks and bottle of water or soda AND I rarely use in flight entertainment, resorting to using my phone or Ipad. So I give them two thumbs up!

“Flight attendant came strolling up” - as an airline crew member, I must stress to please consider whether that is the original crew member. Often we are on reserve, and called to the airport at all hours of the day. Multiple times I wasn’t told the flight was late, and one time they gave me a completely wrong time. Finally, an hour to be called, run to the airport, go through security, and get to the gate is pretty good.

I fly Spirit all the time from AC. I've never had any problems. Since I live nearby, I don't see myself traveling 2 hours to Newark EWR and pay extra for tolls, gas and parking, nor 1 hrs to Philly as well as paying more for a flight. Once we even left the car parked and no problems. I'll stay with Spirit. Great review!!

surreal seeing this, I've made this EXACT flight multiple times a year since I was probably 11. Spirit definitely only works if you have firm expectations set, all they expect you to do is know the baggage requirements, find your own way to the gate, and get in. On the plus side, flying with literally any carrier when I get the rare chance to feels like 1st class every time, because I grew up knowing I had to shell out allowance even if I wanted a Sprite and making EXTRA sure my phone was charged lol. But when you can get a flight that's literally cheaper than the gas it would take to get to MYR from SE Pennsylvania where I lived, for 9x less time, it's totally worth it. Bonus points for how stress free ACY, since it's not as popular as an airport.

I used to travel to Atlanta frequently, and when I did, I flew Spirit out of AC. I considered Spirit planes as school buses with wings. For me, AC was a 2.5 hour drive. Once i got a round trip for $87. My trips were weekends. I could get everything i needed into a backpack. I also packed a small empty pocketbook, that I would use once I got to Atlanta. That constituted my free carry on. The other thing about AC was the cheap parking lot that was pretty much walking distance to the terminal. And the security line was pretty much non existent. Those were my very frugal days. I've since sworn off Spirit. My finances are such, that I can afford to treat myself, and I don't do the frequent trips to Atlanta anymore. Good channel.

The issue with Spirit and other ultra low cost carriers is what happens when things go wrong. Since they spend the bare minimum on maintenance, crews, etc, the have less slack to deal with delays, and worse customer service. Your flight is more likely to get cancelled last minute with no recourse than it would be on a full service carrier.

Nice work again! Excellent video. While I agree with you that you can't turn a seat on Spirit Airlines into First Class, you do show some of the very same ways that I have long used to make my flying experience a little nicer without too much additional cost. For instance, I often sit myself in a quiet corner of a nicer restaurant in the main terminal for a pre-flight meal, rather than going to the special lounges many airlines offer. Too often, those lounges are just too crowded. A nicer quality restaurant can often be a better choice, in my book. For a little extra cost, I also tend to book the exit row in economy--what I call "the poor man's first class." Since I rarely eat much on board, even when I'm in First Class (let's face it, what airline has ever won a Michelin star? None that I know of), I usually pack my own snacks anyway. Once in flight, I will often just watch what's on my phone or read a good book. No need for IFE. If it's an overnight flight, I will simply put in the earplugs and go to sleep. Again, no need for a fancy First Class seat. I just lean up against the window with a pillow. Sure, on long-haul flights to Asia or Europe, I usually book myself a business or first class seat with a bed. But in typical coast-to-coast flights in the US, I don't generally bother, since the flights are not that long anyway, and you've shown how someone can, in fact, make their flying experience a bit nicer with just a bit of thought and planning. Thanks again for another great video!

"If you want to reduce your chance of delays fly in the morning." Me with Spirit last week: Both the 6am and 8:40am flights out of Portland, OR got cancelled. And they were being serviced by two different aircraft.
@ntmn84442 жыл бұрын
That does happen a lot, but bc Spirit doesn’t fly a lot to Portland, and the plane is often coming from somewhere else. There are a lot of other nuanced factors like, do they have pilots to fly the plane there to pick you up? Are there pilots there to take you where you’re going? Are there enough FAs? It could also be that those flights were indirectly impacted by weather. Wherever the planes were maybe they couldn’t get out of there bc of weather. Like I said, lots of reasons why things like that happen. But in general, flying in the morning with an airline like this is best.

Thing about the flight crew. I've been on a different schedule than my crew. As a result, my 'rest' time is sometimes different than the itinerary for the flight itself. Reason being due to a crew swap or a multitude of other reasons. I had one recently where I got in late the night before and went into my scheduled rest period. Due to that, it changed my van time to the airport. I didn't arrive to the airplane until 10 minutes before departure... It is extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY rare for crewmembers to just “not show up”. 99% chance that this FA got a very short reserve callout due to some operational reason. Let’s not automatically blame the FA when you don’t know what the real deal was.

You don't know why that flight attendant was late. That flight attendant may have been flown in to replace an ill crew member, or for many other reasons. Atlantic City is one of Spirit's bases...so that flight attendant may have been a replacement, and in that case the flight may have been delayed in order to provide the flood attendants contractually allowed time to get to the aircraft. I can promise you that no flight attendant, if they were late, would be strolling to the aircraft. That would mean their job.

I have to say that I only flew Spirit TWICE in my life and that is the only flights on Spirit will be taking. Some of their fares can be good deals if you only travel with a backpack under the seat and don't mind coach (or the rudeness of the crew; at least that's how I felt on the two flights I had flying coach). But if you don't mind spending a little more (I mean a few bucks more, literally in some cases, fly Southwest or something else -- much better experience and if you have bags, it's a better deal overall when all said and done -- they don't nickle and dime you to death like Spirit does. They wanted to charge me $6 to print a paper boarding pass; most other airlines don't do that -- only the budget airlines like Spirit, and once you add up that stuff, plus a carry-on bag fee and a checked bag fee, you're paying about the same or in some cases, slightly more, than someone like United or Southwest, and you have to deal with the crew which IMO is not the best in the two cases I mentioned. I would only maybe fly them again if it was an absolute emergency and I couldn't find anything else, but other than that, i would not hesitate to pay an extra $50 to fly on another airline. Experience and customer satisfaction are important to me than cost in most cases (not to say I will spend $1000 for a ticket when I could pay $100 and suffer a little, but if the difference is marginal, like $50 difference, I'll go with the other airline).

I am 6'7" 265 lbs and I usually wait for everyone to board first and then I climb on and I love to watch the expression on people's faces as they see a big tall dude with rock solid massive muscles get on the plane and HOPING he doesn't have the seat next to them LOLOLOLOLOLOL. I usually don't as I know what seats to reserve when flying on any given plane where I will have the most if not nearly unlimited legroom regardless of the airline. Yes, some airlines charge a bit more for this but I figure I am saving sometimes $500-800 for my ticket (that I turn around and rent a cramped Corvette Convertible to drive around in at my destination lol). Even If I am not able to get a seat with the most legroom, I'm tough enough to be able to withstand a few hours of being a bit uncomfortable for a few hours. Geez, the whining some people do about being cramped for a few hours makes me laugh. When you are bigger than the average human, you have to make sure you make accommodations for yourself in all aspects of either a business trip or vacation. This includes hotels, car rentals, and airline flights. I would rather spend a couple of hundred bucks to be just as comfortable on a Spirit Flight as I would on Delta or United spending $400-$1000. I also don't eat or drink much if anything before or during the flight because when you are 6'7" 265 lbs with a 58" chest, you don't fit in ANY airplane bathrooms very well except for international flights on SOME airplanes. Usually for those, I find a new "friend", sometimes a stewardess, to visit it with me, if you know what I mean LOL.

I flew several times on Spirit put of Yeager in Charleston WV. THE last I used Spirit they screwed us all up. My friend took me to the airport around 10:30 am. And with all of Spirit airlines delays because they didn't get their quotes all of us going to Myrtle Beach didn't leave until 7:45 pm missing one day of vacation. I felt sorry for people having to leave MB 1 DAY LESS. SPIRIT apologized and announced that would give us 1/2 off next flight wherever Spirit flew but you had to travel within 90 days after this disaster! Who is going to travel unless for business. Before leaving MB at Spirit first time I was over in my luggage and they just upped their prices..my dad who worked at Avis MB Airport asked the clerk if they could waive the overdue and explained Spirit's problem at Yeager. Unfortunately they couldn't comply and my dad said this is the last time you travel on Spirit!! My dad had unhappy customers when they would get off Spirit at MB would have to rent a car to travel to their next destination. Dad found out that Spirit would mess people up if they didn't have enough passengers and would make up reasons for delays.. SO NO THANKS SPIRIT!!

Be grateful it was just an hour. I've had a flight where one of the pilots called in sick. We had to wait for a flight up from Florida to bring a replacement. 3 1/2 hours. Another time I was going for the day.going to a dinner. One night. 8 hour delay. My taxi to the event was more than the flight since the person who was going to pick me up at 10;30 couldn't come at 6:30. People who had booked cruises were sobbing and freaking out. Driving to Philadelphia. Booking hotels and flights to different ports. Worked for me, they had downsized the plane and decided I was stand by. By the time the flight took off there was plenty of room.

**Likes** Very interesting. I love how you flew out of Atlantic City. I live in New Jersey and I've been to Atlantic City multiple times however people only point it to gambling. I prefer to look at the beach, restaurants and public transportation. I do wanna fly out of ACY one day though.

There is also a lot more to Reno, Nevada than gambling. Fun trivia: we have a lot of geo-thermal here. One of the major hotel/casinos, The Peppermill, is actually heated by geo-thermal water. Weirdly, the hotel room price does not drop when the temperature does. Why not? It's not like they are paying for heat. Also, we have an amazing lake just across the boarder, and we hosted the winter Olympics in 1960, 11 years before I was born.

The only time I tried to fly spirit (from Newark to L.A. w/ a stop in Atlanta,) the flight to Atlanta was cancelled just a few hours before the scheduled departure, only about 5 minutes before I was gonna leave for the airport. Ended up spending a couple hundred bucks to rebook onto a JetBlue flight the next night.
