Raleigh North Carolina is not on the coast. Unlike Seattle and Washington D.C. Although Washington DC is a little ways from the coastal area of the bay it is still effective by tidal flow. And by the world definition: Any cities that are effective by tidal changes are considered coastal cities. Due to the fact Raleigh is far enough away from the tidal flow means it is disqualified for cross country flights

I have a friend who is an Alaska flight attendant. He told me about the morning BNA-SEA flight (which sounds very similar to your RDU-SEA). Alaska doesn't have catering service at BNA. So the flight before has to being the catering for the flight in and flight out. Since you were the first flight out, the catering had to sit overnight. Which means they can't have certain things. And those were pre-covid procedures.

@B_Bodziak2 жыл бұрын
If no other airlines have the same route departing around the same time and are also serving food, hot food, other airlines are not going to serve the hot food. It's more of a competition thing than a catering situation because they all contract with the same catering companies in most cities. Even Delta in Atlanta doesn't have in-house catering. It's all contracted and those contracts do not allow for monopolies by one airline.
@titanbronco16272 жыл бұрын
The route I mentioned (BNA-SEA) and the route Jeb took (RDU-SEA), have competition. Alaska and Delta both have non-stop flights.
@soundman447 Жыл бұрын
One Problem with this is American their partner airline does have catering out of BNA I have had it on an early morning from BNA to LAX. So it is not like it's not available they just aren't taking advantage of it that said it could also be affected by the construction that they have been doing out at BNA for the last few years.

The most memorable flight was Alaska Airlines from San Francisco to Anchorage. Left SF just at sun-up, flew over SF bridge cloaked in fog with only the towers showing and then followed the coast (on the left side if you spit out the window it would land in the Pacific, on the right side beach to mountains to the horizon) up to Anchorage. We saw the Pacific, Rockies, extinct volcano cones, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helen and the snow capped mountains in Alaska. All in less than 4 hours. IFE doesn't have a chance.

I'm intrigued to see your Airports Revealed segment of Seattle. My dad being a Captain for Alaska has spent much of his career flying in and out of Seattle, and it's certainly one of his least favorite airports. Mostly because of the traffic and long waits for takeoffs, especially around noon. You can end up being 20th or worst in line to takeoff if you don't get out of your gate in time. Or as you experienced, being too early means you might have to wait for a while before you can find a gate. As far as the reasoning for your delay, I might have an answer for that via my dad. The heat in the entire PNW brought temperatures like we had never seen (PDX shattered records three days in a row), and a lot of the ramp workers ended up taking the day off, and I can't say I blame them. However, that led to a serious short staffing of ground crews, so a lot of flights (including ones my dad flew that weekend) were delayed. 21/25 Jeb Score isn't too bad! If I had to guess about the strange RDU-SEA not being viewed as Transcon, it might have to do with the fact that Alaska, like you said, has only one flight a day there. However, Alaska has expressed that over the next few years they're focusing on establishing their routes with more frequency, rather than establishing new routes, so maybe that'll change soon. Hope you enjoyed your time in Alaska and Hawaii. Two of the most beautiful states in the US. Great job as usual Jeb.

I've flown them a lot, have been MVP Gold for several years.
