Funny how KK created Rey as a means to "win over" a female audience, but as you can see at 0:52, all of the women in that theater booed Rey into oblivion. It's almost like audiences don't care about whether or not a character shares the same reproductive organs, but care about well written ones.

I love seeing women on screen, but a lot of these franchises backed by people like KK (it’s not just her, and not just women behind these blunders) don’t bother to write these female characters as HUMANS. It’s almost like a “here, damn” move - they just stick a female in the lead role, girlboss-ify the already hammy writing, and think (all) women and girls will not only show up, but applaud them for their lazy writing. Why would we want to see ourselves portrayed as INhuman? Even if the character is magical, a superhero, villain, etc… where are her flaws that play up her strengths, the faults and mistakes that help her to become a fully realized character/person? In Rey’s case, she was stuck in there to be the Mary Sue to Kylo’s Gary Stu, and they tried to turn it into a Romeo and Juliette story. Didn’t work for most people. It was boring, both characters are cans of paint that won’t dry.

The Mandalorian started off good, introduced new characters while given fan service, and paying homage to the original Star Wars lore, but this season has gone downhill.. badly. The first season of the Mandalorian is better than all three Star Wars films of the new trilogy, but you make good points. Grogu is being miss-used just to sell merchandise. Another aspect that is very true, is not showing Mandalorian bounty hunting missions. This show could’ve stepped up. It’s game to a 10 star ⭐️ rating by taking away some of those useless episodes, and instead making him going out on a bounty hunter mission, bounty standalone episodes could’ve been super-cool extracting stories right out of the comic books. I cannot agree that the first two seasons are bad, (a few flawed episodes in between) but definitely the third season shows how Disney’s executive producers and higher-ups stick their fingers in the stories and continue ruining them.
@Deno2100 Жыл бұрын
Season two was terrible. There was no story so they had to use Luke and the Dark Saber to fake substance. Not a single character developed in any measurable way. It's interesting that in the first episode of Mandalorian, it showed a tough, stone cold, inhuman bounty hunter and his daily routine, only for him to come into contact with a baby and having to question his morality. The incident starts to show us who Mando really is and jumpstarts his ark of leaving the guild and shitty rules about morality and irrideemability behind and starting a new life of his own. It showed us glimpses of who this character was, but ultimately we still didn't know, and it would be up to the rest of the show to take it from there and slowly push Mando out from the shadows. But the show ended up treating what we saw in Ep1 as a fully established character and just had him go on all these missions that didn't involve anything and ultimately destroyed his journey by making him show his face to baby Yoda but then going on a voyage to redeem himself as the Armour witch said.

10:12 We all wish that was Kathleen Kennedys head. Star Wars is one of the easiest IPs to write for because there was so much time and space to create new stories. So much source material, if needed. Rey could have been a High Republic character. She could have had pretty much the same storyline, just not involving the Skywalkers or Palpatine. She could have been an abandoned child on a desert moon who runs into a AWOL trooper and is drawn into a galactic struggle for power. Slowly finding her force powers somewhere along the way with the help of a mentor. As the AWOL trooper finds meaning in a faction that shares his values. Eventually committing herself to his faction only to find that the family she desperately wants to reconnect with is on the other side of the conflict. Then ultimately letting go of her desire to control her story or her family and maturing into a Jedi or something akin. NOPE Lets have her beat the blue milk out of Luke with no training, fight Death Star Star destroyers and kill the emperor again while chasing a pseudo Sith heart throb. Nullifying and making pointless all the other movies that came before. Breaking the force. Destroying every legacy character before killing them. Destroying the EU. Kathleen Kennedys writers dont understand most of what Star Wars is so they miss the point half the time. But the parts they do "understand" they hate. They are so narcissistic and politically driven that they think they can improve upon them without any reasoning, credentials, thought or effort or they just dont approve of OG Star Wars fans ideology, beliefs or taste. Its gotten so bad that the fan base has mostly died but one rotten appendage has morphed from people that never really understood complex space drama sci fi that Star Wars was in to people that just want to buy GroGu plushies. So the simpletons within the ranks have inherited the franchise.

My overall opinion, Mando season 1 and 2 showed development, slow development, but still. Mando went from being a ruthless bounty hunter to having to care for a child. Then season 3 rolled around, and nothing got done. I loved season 1 and 2, they were exiting, and told cool episodic stories. Mando had to slowly change from going solo to caring for a kid. 3 was shit, all of a sudden Bo katan is the main character, Mandos development ends, and his character changes, and moff Gideon went from being a cold calculated general who gets what he wants no matter what, to a joke telling desperate fool. Fuck season 3, but for the rest of the show I can't say I agree with you

Episode I-VI are perfect (in an imperfect way) and TCW was a fantastic companion to that. While post-Lucas Star Wars has its heights (Rebels and Andor), most of it becomes increasingly self-referential and empty. I'm not really interested in Ahsoka for instance because it feels so been there, done that. And even Andor is a show that I feel is held back by the Star Wars license and might be even stronger if it was just it's own original thing, where we didn't know what becomes of Cassian, and also where the empire came from, who is running it and how it will fall. At the very least Star Trek finds new ways to tell its stories and each new incarnation feels like its a new creator's take on an established thing (similar to comic book runs).

Watching people talking about the last of us show makes me understand the "Book was way better!" Crowd, the walking dead gave me the same feelings. The reason the last of us show is good is completely down to it being based on one of the best story games of all time. The story in the first last of us was spectacular and is almost solely why the game gets so much deserved praise till this day, everything else the game does is decent but the story really sold the game for most people. From what I've seen the show is an OK adaption but if you've played the game why bother? Is just an inferior version plus as you're playing the game it's obviously much more ingaging something a TV show can't replicate. On a another note, the LOU franchise is like the original star wars trilogy, they've been trying to alter the story to make the vaccine seem more viable and make joel out to be more of a villain since druckman took over, if you played LOU 1 there were hints to the fireflies not being the most capable of people, now they just say the vaccine was 100% possible and make Joel out to be a monster, the original did a way better job of leaving it as a moraly questionable decision leaving more for the player to think about post game. Back to the show it's good for TV show standards but I'd preferably give praise to shows like breaking bad or the sopranos for completely creating something great from nothing, mostly everything I see people praise the show for came from the game except maybe it being an alright adaption. Not trying to defend the mandalorian or anything, haven't watched a single episode just someone who loved LOU 1. If anything good comes from the show I wish people would watch it a bit then just play the game like I did with the walking dead, seen the first episode and then read the comics and couldn't go back. If you're never gonna pick up a controller then fair enough watch the show but I really think people should experience the lightning in a bottle that was LOU 1.

I mean, the first two seasons weren't bad. Grogu saved Mando's life, and then Mando gave him up to the evil empire. The guilt of that action made Mando go back to save Grogu's life in turn. Din Djarin then saw himself in Grogu, both orphans whose lives were destroyed by the empire, and both of them were saved by the Mandalorians. It was a natural lead into Grogu being branded as a foundling of the Mandalorian Order, like his now-adopted father before him. The conflict between Grogu's new attachment to Mando versus his apparent destiny to become a powerful Jedi was also very interesting, as it mirrored Anakin's story with Padme. He can't have both; he must give up one or the other. That being said, book of boba fett was a dumpster fire, and so is S3 of mandalorian imo.

I'd like to see more indepth discussion on the "Wolf and Cub" archetype, how it's typically implemented, and how it was implemented poorly in The Mandalorian. Instead, most of this video is just complaining about toy sales and repeating "They have no story" with no real explanation of discussion.

The Mandalorian doesn’t have a strong story. It’s nothing but fetch quests: go here, do this, leave here. The show should be called Grogu and friends because nothing Mando does benefits the plot. He has to be rescued on almost every mission he goes on. He wears literal plot armor that is somehow on the same level as Cole’s armor from the Mortal Kombat reboot. On top of all this it’s a Filoni show which means instead of getting new, creative and unique characters his pet characters are going to get shoved into it. Bonus points that the dude can barely write a cohesive story that doesn’t sound like it came right out of Saturday morning cartoons.

You can make a compelling gay character by simply not focusing on solely the gay aspect and actually developing a complex characterization. It's especially annoying when they also make the character somehow "perfect" with infinite plot armor, because it's unrealistic. Fett and season 3 are absolute trash, far below even the weakest the Mando s1 and 2 have. Even decided to write an alternate season 3, to finish the story, while adding it to the EU.

TLOU show is a complete downgrade compared to the game. Not how it should be considering the game still has to be a game while the show should've "theoretically" execute the narrative and acting better.

the writing for TLOU may have been way easier for the character development due to the already existing script and characters within the video which is a masterpiece

TLOU the TV show is a poor adaptation of the game. It gets some of the plot points and character moments right 'enough' but ultimately falls well short of the source material in delivering an emotionally deep and satisfying story. I get why you're using it to highlight the shortcomings and failings of The Mandalorian, but you should have used the game for that purpose. Because the TLOU show is, ultimately, pretty shit and that undermines your arguments. For one Pascal is a serviceable actor but is either unable to or is never given the chance to fully flesh out the role of Joel. In short we get to watch him plod through 8 or whatever it is episodes with, with the exception of the first episode, no virtually agency of his own. Which leads to the 2nd problem: The girl bosses. And suffice to say loading a show with large and in charge female characters but then failing to write characters that are both believable and at least a little sympathetic is a fatal flaw. TLOU had immense good will thanks to the game and the show got a lot of mileage as a result. If you enjoyed it for that or other reasons then hey fill your boots. But to attempt to use it as a gold standard of story telling and character work is just plain a bad idea. Because, except for bits of the first episode, it is neither. Long story short: The Mando sucks and TLOU sucks. The end.

I think the best parts of TLOU are the parts that are pretty much word for word from the game lmao

I really love TLOU, becuse in the end, Joel did the right thing. Even if a cure was made, there would be too much greed, too much danger, too much bad world for it to do any real good, and Ellie would have died for nothing

@jedibrooks7235 Жыл бұрын
What does that have to do with my point about joel and elles writing being better than mandos. You gotta be able to separate those things, never said it was better than the game. The game has way more time to flesh out both characters there is no way the show is as good. But that doesnt mean i cant give them credit for what they achieved in a short amount of time. Compared to helmet man is pretty good work

0:52 Funny enough, my enjoyment of the movie wasn't the best because of one loud fan who was talking really loud next to me with "Oh My God Yes!" Fanboy energy. And when this scene popped up, I was sighing internally from what I knew was coming, but the guy next to me just kept saying "Skywalker, Skywalker, Skywalker!"😂 I just wanted the movie to be over and was like "My guy, just let me enjoy the end in silence, my god!"

Lets not ignore the fact that the only reason they at least kinda nailed The Last Of Us (which they really dont imho) but at least in terms of the video, is, that they just had to use a already perfectly written story of a game in the first place.

Removing the extended universe from canon? I am not the biggest Star Wars lore expert, but that sounds like a incredibly stupid idea. No wonder many Star Wars fans hate Disney's handling of Star Wars. Boy, for how Disney has been handling Star Wars recently, we can certainly say that "This isn't the way" for Star Wars.

I did not get past the first episode of the series. First the stupid escape scene from th Sarlac put me off already, but the fight at the end against that spider mutant montster thing ruined it for me. A extremely mobile entity is letting itself get choked to death like Jabba was too much stupidity. Glad to hear that I didn't miss anything important 😂

@TheViralInfekT Жыл бұрын
@@whateverwhatever4476 I have no tolerance for bad/lazy writing anymore. And nearly all new Star Wars is lazy and message driven writing. I can't stand it anymore. Example: Highly trained military person in a standoff with some stormtroopers in a building. Troopers fire constantly into a hallway to suppress the heroe who need to get through. Does our hero use superior tactics? Or does a flashbang get used or any other form of diversion? No. The writers use the trope that STs always miss to handle the situation and let out hero stroll into the line of fire and shoot her big gun to kill the STs... This is only one example of brain dead story telling I despise.

The Last of Us probably isn't the best example, since it's based off a game, and a lot of the scenes are very similar. Plus, I think the things they did change were for the worse and I'm also getting fatigued from hearing Pascal's voice everywhere.
@vmpere2637 Жыл бұрын
"Unlike Ellie and Joel, almost zero effort has been put into developing their relationship" Are you serious? Season 1 and 2 had some pretty good bits about their relationship and how Grogu learns to take on traits from Mando and see him as a father. Just because it's done in a subtle way in passing doesn't make it non-existent, it just isn't the focus of the show. This show isn't going for the same tone as The Last of Us was, they aren't comparable just because it's pedro pascal with a younger sidekick. Yes, Grogu coming back in Boba Fett was a shit decision, what Star Wars media hasn't had its fair share of shitty decisions? The "wolf and cub" plot you reference should and does take a backseat to the show's namesake, the Mandalorian himself. "After 3 years of this shit I still don't know why" Because raising a foundling is one of the highest honors in Mandalorian society and Din was himself a foundling. Just because they don't explicitly say "these are his motivations" in the first 3 episodes doesn't mean he has no motivations. You said it yourself; Mando was at the beginning a very mysterious character. As his character and motivations have evolved he's become less so, especially as he takes on the more explicit role of Grogu's father figure, which was set up by Grogu making the choice to come back, albeit admittedly poorly, and embraces Mandalorian culture. "Grogu has no reason to even be here" He's a foundling, in a show about mandalorians regaining their culture. "Even his faction has become so pretentious and annoying that I no longer care to learn anything about them." Then the show isn't for you, so just say that instead. The purpose of the show is to expand the lore around Mandalorian culture. Hence the name of the show.
@marwana4834 Жыл бұрын
Grogu giving subtle hints about seeing mando as his father isn’t strong character development. None of their motivations are strong or have depth in any way. Also, him being assigned grogu is just a one dimensional motive that isn’t relatable as we aren’t part of the clan.

Yeah he was cool in season 1 and 2 he had his arc of getting delivered to become a Jedi but I loved season 1 because mando was a "bounty hunter" and was like an old fashioned gun slinger in star wars but he kinda became like a hero and when they brought grogu back it kinda defeated the whole purpose of the show and just made it leave a bitter taste in your mouth because they could've continued grogu's story but instead they brought him back to mando so they can sell plushies
