One thing that gets me with Eowyn's arc in Return of the King is that there are layers of justification and reasons for Theoden's request for her to remain back from the battle. 1. She is female royalty 2. She may be the only remaining royalty to lead Rohan in case her brother and Theoden die 3. Theoden definitely don't want her to die as he has already lost his son (and may be some kind of juxtaposition to Denethor, which throws his children to the front lines willy-nilly)

You barely scraped the surface of the utter idiocy of the siege of eregion. For starters, there seem to be barely any troops defending or attacking eregion. The show does an utterly terrible job at conveying the size of the armies. Just look at 8:37 Let's ignore for now the utter failure in constructing effective battlements because that's something most people won't notice. But you have maybe six archers in that shot with ample space between them. In an actual siege situation the ramparts should be full of archers standing shoulder to shoulder. What this does is it makes the fight appear small. And why are they not shooting? You can see the orks in the background so why are they not shooting them down? Then you have the utterly ridiculous war machines they have the orks use. First the magic trebuchets that have the reach and destructive power of modern day artillery, than some stupid ladder raising machine (no idea why they thought they needed those) and finally that utter ridiculousness of their wall breaking machine. I get that they wanted to have the orcs use some kind of exotic wall breaker, but the machine they used is not exotic, it's just stupid. It physically cannot work. The orks would have better chances breaking through the walls with pickaxes. Then the stupid river blocking maneuver. First the magic trebuchets fire about a hundred times farther than what even trebuchets double the size of what they have would be able to and do about a thousand times more damage than they could possibly due. Then the falling mountain somehow compresses into a watertight barrier that actually blocks the river in any meaningful way. Then the water in behind this magical barrier somehow flows off within what seems to be hours at most when something like this would probably have taken days at least. Then the riverbed somehow dries out enough to be nothing more than a slightly muddy field within again what appears to be hours at most when this would have taken weeks at minimum. Then the orks run across this magically dried riverbed, no ladders in sight. What were they thinking the'y do? Hit the walls with their swords in the hope the walls will break? And during the entire battle, which included negotiations, the water never overtopped the magical dam they created? Did the writers think the water from the river just stops flowing when you dam the river up? I could go on and on. Cavalary charging into a forest? That's suicide. The stupid fake-boromir elve? They showed shots of orcs following the arrow with their gaze. Did these orks know that out of all the arrow that fly around on this battlefield that one is somehow special? And why exactly did that random barrel explode? Was it filled with tnt? Oil doesn't explode like this when lit on fire. And the machine that she destroyed with this wasn't even the damn wall breaker, it was just some random ladder raising machine. Granted, the wall breaker couldn't possibly work so it was a low priority target but still. Also, she was shot from the back AND the front. Which implies that at least a few of those arrows were friendly fire. Even this is still barely scraping the surface but I'll stop now, this post is already long enough.
@lanychabot-laroche13516 күн бұрын
She was shot 6 times, by 6 different archers, all at the same time. That is already lottery ticket levels of unprobable. And she lived through all of those long enough to make the shot, in a dark battlefield on a target she doesn't even see. It's absolutely preposterous.

Discount Elrond and his cavalry suddenly stopping simultaneously in the middle of a cavalry charge to start a meeting is the stupidest, nonsensical war scene I've ever watched. Like holy hell I laughed out so loud I forgot I thought I was watching comedy Lol.
@zlatanclovecic194415 күн бұрын
One of the most powerful things on cavalry charge was its speed. Stopping at front of enemy line is like going into battle and suddenly throwing away arms and shields. Never ever in history a single cavalry commander ordered to stop in front of enemy line, loosing momentum and all advantages of cavalry and exposing it to enemy's archery and lances. Often the real problem was rather the opposite: to keep cavalry in order, not to advance too far thus not to be surrounded. Plus, the reason they stopped is utterly ridiculous. The orcs had "Galadriel" caged right in front of them! If the elfs would just continue their charge, they would easily grab & free her.
@teresa652514 күн бұрын
It would also be impossible to stop in real life. The elves and horses would all have to stop at the same moment to avoid an accident. If the horses suddenly stop at full gallop, the ones at the back will all run into the ones at the front because they cannot react at the same time as those next to Elrond. Stopping an army at full gallop from one second to the next will end in disaster.

The silence of the orchestra abruptley stopping as the battlelines clashed, then the whole theatre just in silence witnessing the sheer brutality of the elephants carving through the ranks of the riders was so impressionable. I think what really makes early GoT writing so impressive is how well scenes compliment other scenes of characters in different locations. When Jamie Lannister brings up the huge stockpiles of dragon fire security stored below the city, he know that part of his story is 100% true and it elevates his twist that he's not the monster people think he is. So Tyrion finding the stockpiles and using them for war sets up two huge payoffs at different points in the story and a third big payoff if you count Cersie going crazy.

Rings of Power trying to present the themes of Tolkien: Hope Wins Over Despair, was like watching someone trying to nail Tolkien jelly to wall with a Game of Thrones nail. This idea of "touch the darkness" in ROP, in that someone has to have been traumatized by evil before they can recognize good from evil, is so discordant with Tolkien's whole thesis, and trying to hard to be the new cool kid in fantasy by trying to make Tolkien of all things "edgy" was such a failure. Tolkien is not the place to debate moral relativism. Elves are immortal and nearly al of them are over 2000 years old when ROP is set, they have already been there, done that, which is why petty squabbles are indeed petty squabbles to them, even if they seem like high matter of state to mortals. The problem with Galadriel isn't that they made her a warrior and military leader, the problem is they turned her into every edgelord That Guy you ever had the misfortune to play a TTRPG with. And with the swamp that is modern fantasy, the film trilogy Lord of the Rings is refreshing 25 years later because are the good guys are in fact good, and don't need an hour dedicated debating how ends justify means.

Another is that in LOTR we had bombs in Helms Deep and in RoP they were trying to copy that so they created sopthistiocated device to destroy walls. They wanted Rohirrims charge? They created one xDD

Elrond's forehead was tall as well, that's why Elves have tiara's in the fellowship. But the showmakers couldn't create anything aesthetic if it was handed to them, which it was literally.

I never understood how they got those rocks/chunks of the city onto the trebuchets.
@dobby999616 күн бұрын
Two orcs are strong enough to lift a trebuchet to turn it towards the cliff rock, so they probably used them as skipping stones before they used them to block the river 😂
@dozyproductionss16 күн бұрын
@@dobby9996 which doesn't make sense. And then how did the gondor men take huge chunks of building debris and so quickly put them on their trebuchets? Any stone at that size is super heavy.
@dobby999616 күн бұрын
@dozyproductionss well one side we can only speculate on because we never see it. But I'd say both are unlikely, but since LOTR had the moviemaking sense to not show us anything our brains are more accepting, but if I had to guess I'd say the Numenorean men of Gondor stand 7 feet on average and are built like machines, being stronger than any humanoid race. So if they want to shift those slabs of rock they're more likely than 2 orcs that are shown in ROP. Simply by not showing us how the rock got shifted it doesn't open the writers up to the same degree of implausibility and scrutiny that ROP does

Badass she might have been, but they NEVER LET US KNOW WHY SHE WAS OR WHY WE SHOULD CARE. Which means no, she's just a paper doll torn to shreds in a meaningless melee.

They didn't even name her in the show. The only way to know her name is watching the credits 😂

Whenever I rewatch The Return of the King, I start weeping at the moment when the horns of Rohan sound at the Pelennor Fields. And it's a sign of just how perfectly prepared, built and executed that scene was that I teared up from emotions even now, while glimpsing that moment in a KZbin video reviewing the piece of shit thing the creators call the biggest TV show ever.

Like so many modern movies and shows, they make scenes that look "cool" without stopping to consider if they even make sense. They require the viewer to watch with their brain turned off.

00:55 is this caption here for the orc's comment in the Black Speech a joke?? Please tell me this is a joke...because the idea of there even being a word for "love" in the Black Speech is utterly preposterous. But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at this point

The Elf armour in RoP looks like something they got from a dollar store. No self respecting Elf would be seen dead in anything so cheap and clunky.

Its important to notice that, ewen arch is about redemption and understanding that she is a woman, and dont need to be a man, that she can help and do much in times of war being a woman and doing things that women do.... This is not shown in the end of the film, but after she marries faramir she made a promisse that she will never take a sword again, because now she understands the value of being a woman.... Its basic a girl boss arch but in reverse, where she understands that what she made was a waste of time and potential... Tolkien was a genius...

Was "The Rings Of Power" actually written, or did they write down every fantasy story trope the could think of on little bits of paper, throw them all in a fish bowl and then pick them out at random, glue them together and shout VOILA, OUR SCRIPT!

I could never ever get over the charge into olifants. It's just, so dumb and wasteful of men... It would be like if Brad Pitt was a tank commander of a broken tank and he would still decide to take on an elite enemy battalion and killed like 90 of them because they all just charge the tank exactly where the tank MG's are pointing. Oh, wait.... But yea, I hated the charge against olifants.

The one problem plaguing the Fantasy genre of today, is that the stories have a logic; pre-explained logic.. In order to make it as close to reality as possible.. And that's what destroys the enigma of the Fantasy genre.. It doesn't allow the viewer to devise their own logic or explanation.. Everything is "spoon-fed", thus killing the imagination of the viewer!!

You dont just blindly bash things because you dont like them or they are "woke". I think your style of videos really sets you apart from other creatures. I hope you get more views and continue to make vids. Have a good one.
