To be honest, watching The Clone Wars for the first time and seeing the entire Maul plotline play out: First with discount Maul "Savage" and then by actual Maul miraculously appearing from the dead, I wasn't a fan. But through the series I almost completely forgot about the character introduction, because they turned Maul into one of the most iconic and compelling characters of the Clone Wars (and Sam Witwer just killed his role). Even though I still technically don't agree with the discision to raise Maul from the dead, it just goes to show how much a show can get away when a character is well written.

With how many characters have survived lightsaber stabbings it also begs the question, why is stabbing then drawing from the same hole the technique? Wouldn't it make more sense to slice out or something? I feel like there must be an easy way to make sure the enemy is dead. Like Judge Dredd shooting combatants in the head after the belly. Lightsaber users have to be tracking at this point that stabbing is not the ideal technique for killing the opponent.

Throughout the 11 collective seasons of television, they only share about 3 scenes and exchange no dialogue. They have no previous relationship whatsoever, other than that which is vaguely alluded to in this show.

Imagine the same scene, but this time Ahsoka arrives at the temple, she contacts Hueyang then, and she spends the next 10 minutes doing exactly the same things for finding the key, but in the meantime she is having a conversation with Hueyang through which the viewer is given exposition. The viewer is happy and engaged because he understands what's going on, the characters are developed through dialog, the actors are happy because they get to act, the pacing is fixed, it doesn't feel boring, and Disney doesn't have to invest not even 1 extra $ in that scene. the second i heard Thrawn was going to be in it im like "oh they are going to beyond wreck him". One of the "smartest" plot/character writers in sci-fi was needed to create a believable villain who is just SO smart that even other "geniuses" fall victim to his traps again and again. Frist time through you NEVER saw them coming, and it wasnt "ha mcguffin you couldnt of expected!" it was always "oh shit i FORGOT about that!" or "Oh wow i never thought to use it that way!". From a throw away line of dialog in the OT that was never touched on again about cloaking devices, not only did we see them in the flesh so to speak, we also see them used in an incredibly unique and dangerous way. Only to find out there was MORE to it, again and again. plots within plots, oh how well it was done. Disney hasnt had that kind of writing capability in arguably decades. Now add in that basically all the characters you would need to make the books into a movie are dead in universe, real life, or both...ofc everything has to change and there is just no way that modern Disney is up to the task of making him a believable villain. End of the day its almost impossible to write a character smarter than you are, and considering Disney writers are about as smart as a paint huffing 3 year old...it was doomed in every way from the start just for that. i didnt bother watching any of it because why would i let the greatest written villain in EU history be ruined that way. "For all the people going to say you need to watch Rebels and Clone Wars to understand this show." Oh no, as someone who has watched both, I promise that will not make this show make any more sense. Actually, it makes drastically less, because you'll wonder when Ahsoka, Sabine and Hera were all killed and replaced by robotic duplicates, poorly mimicking want were once actual characters with personalities. This was a great analysis of why this fight sucks. I agree completely with your point about how Sabine should have used her ranged skill set, instead of pretending to be jedi, when she's not even force sensitive. Ironically, Dave Faloni actually once knew how to write fight scenes between non-force users and jedi, by having them do just that. The fight of Cad Bane vs Obi Wan and Quinlin Vos, from Clone Wars, is much closer to how this fight should have gone down. Bane has a very similar weapons set to Sabine with her mandalorian armor; jet boots to fly, duel blaster pistols, explosives, and a wrist mounted flame thrower and cable launcher. He uses all these tools combined to fend off two jedi, whilst he escapes back to his ship. Now, that fight definitely has issues too, like Bane stealing Vos' lightsaber to briefly duel Obi Wan for some reason, but it's way better than this nonsense. Bane uses his jet boots to keep his distance whilst attacking from range. He throws explosives and uses his flamethrower to attack the jedi from range with weapons they can't deflect with their lightsabers. When they do get close, he uses his cable gun to restrain them and his shock gauntlets to electrocute Obi Wan. Sabine should have used similar strategies here. Obviously, you would need to start the scene with her actually wearing her armor, which just doesn't now for some reason. Then she could use her jetpack to fly and attack from range. She even has sonic wave launchers on her gauntlets, that she can use to push the Sith lady away if she gets too close. You can still have her lose the fight, by taking a less obviously fatal injury, and her wearing armor would actually make her surviving even more plausible. Maybe, the sith throws her lightsaber and hits Sabine across the chest, but the armor takes most of the damage, so she isn't cut in half. That would have made for a much cooler fight, where both combatants get to look competent, and would not have resulted in yet another case of someone surviving being impaled by a blade hot enough to melt metal.

Why do I get the feeling that so much of what's wrong with Ahsoka derives from Dave Filoni being unable to direct live action people? Because it seems like half this shows problems derive from a lack of understanding of the differences between animation and live action (I think that's half the problem with the pacing, which is atrocious). Also, what the hell is up with them going to another galaxy? In the novels (which Disney said don't exist but now they're openly referencing, Heir to the Empire anyone?) It's surprising to me how badly they screwed up Sabine's character. I do think the writing for Ahsoka's character gets better as the show goes along, but it seems really clear to me that they had no idea how to write Sabine. They basically have her make constantly bad decisions and give her a luck dragon.

The show is filled with people making beyond stupid decisions, to the point there are only a few characters who do not make any, Balan Skoll, Ezra (other then wearing the Night Trooper armor when he leaves the shuttle, the Dark Mothers (who mostly just do what Thrawn asks) and MAYBE Thrawn (the fight at the tower only makes sense if he wanted someone to sneak onboard, otherwise seal and lock those doors, including the internal ones, before they arrive, and maybe block some core passages he needed to stall not to fight). IT gets better but it is still filled with dumb moves. But Sabine is the worst offender and acts less mature then she did in Rebels season 1, only to picks up the idiot ball and run with it multiple times. There are several points where is she did not act the idiot Thrawn would not have gotten his return at the end of the season. She took the map they know people are looking for out of a secured area, to a unsecured area that is a known location to anyone who knows her history, when they know the other side is aware Ashoka got it and any known associate with the skills to decode the map will likely be targeted. She did not destroy it when she had the chance, but gave it to Balan.

Like all characters in Arcane shes got an incredibly deep character but here are two things that I think are most important. She represents the viewer in a way. After the first act there is a massive change happening and we dont know whats going on. Neither does Vi and she has to discover this new world like we do. This makes her incredible relatable as a protagonist. Arcanes theme is all about change. Vi is the only character that doesnt go throu this change. Shes got an amazinly well written flat arc and experiences the change around her. So not only is she the perfect bridge between Piltover and Zaun but also between fiction and viewer.

The Lucas non-lethal special was severing limbs. While it had its thematic line in the original trilogy to show Luke becoming Vader, elsewhere the existence of perfect prosthesis made it just as inconsequential. That's why Qui Gon had to die: To bring back stakes. Ever since Disney took over, severed limbs are deemed too gory, so they had to go with gut shots instead. And since it's Disney, nobody dies because they can't lose the potential sales later on.

Good analysis, well thought out and properly critical. I personally would’ve gone with Sabine and Ahsoka looking for Ezra after encountering Pantoran pirates who had scavenged a Star Destroyer in the Unknown Wild Space, leading to them finding traces of Ezra’s battle with Thrawn, which then leads to them eventually discovering the Chiss Ascendancy, where Ezra is being held prisoner, forcing them to adapt to a new civilization who’s completely alien to their usual sensibilities.

Giving her the force is just a perticipation award that she doesn't need to have. Being non force sensitive and being able disarm a Jedi on fighting skill and gadgets alone is an achievement against a Jedi or a Sith because of how hard it is without getting murdered.

1:20 That is the only one I don't have a full agreement with. Beskar is the only reason Mandalorians didn't get wiped out by the Jedi during their war with them. The reason he can take so much damage is because his suit is pure and not an alloy. This armor is so tough, you can take a human effectively and now they are able to go toe to toe with a Jedi and have a chance at surviving.

It is exceptionally rare for any show or movie to emphasize armor and the difference it makes, full on fantasy movies ignore armor all the time too. While surviving the blunt impact of a Rancor is pretty dumb, the Mandalorian mostly uses armor quite well. Its just Star Wars and every other popular series have trained us to see armor as a cool costume instead of a functional tool. It doesn't help that every other kind of armor in the show is basically worthless and it really doesn't help that lightsabers are about as dangerous as extra butter on popcorn now.

If anyone wants a good Star Wars story, I would highly recommend reading Outcast Blades by The Incredible Muffin. It is a story about a Stormtrooper named Ryan Nimbus who was betrayed by the Empire and became a mercenary who works for the Rebels. Over the years, he is trained by Starkiller in close combat, and despite not having the Force, he managed to strike the Jedi once in one of their training sessions years after the New Republic was formed. He is good, but he is no match to much more powerful people.

There is no main character in League lore, they're just a few of many and these ones, their Arcane personalities tracks to the game personalities. So it's just how they are. Woke has an agenda, but the show was just telling their story and didn't overemphasize faking being what they're not for a message. There was hardly even a message, just people being people. Having a female lead in a 'power' role isn't woke. We've been doing it for decades before the term existed and we've experienced plenty of good writing with female leads.

Filoni is hailed as a messiah of SW but, Clone Wars was only directed by him. Then Rebels, a worse show, had him given more control. Then, a live action show, where he is running the show is putting him at his worst. Animation also gives creators a bit of a guise to hide behind. Now, there is no guise. The acting does not help. I don't get why Rosario Dawson is portraying Ahsoka as an emotionally devoid monk and Sabine's actor is just dead in the eyes it seems. But the writing does not lend itself to helping the actors at all. The characters aren't anything like they were in Rebels, makes me wonder if Filoni even remembers the characters from his show. I think Disney must've told the production "this show needs to be watchable to everyone no matter how much star wars they've seen" - hence the characters are all written out of dirt

That is the difference between those who give a sh*t about their work(Arcane) for Vi went in and got a sneak attack on her foe and that foe got up and used her best weapon against Vi and once Vi's back was against the wall she remembered her training and as Vi relaxed she adapted to the situation and used the environment to her advantage against her foe. But in the end Vi lost due her foe mentioning her sister and the foe saw her opening and that was Vi's near fatal mistake and showcases that Vi's foe is a formidable threat and that is just one of several reasons why Arcane is top tier. But here are those who do not give a sh*t about their work(Ashoka) for the fact that we know that Sabine is not enhanced with cybernetics that her attacks on a droid should've ended with Sabine's fist broken, elbow brushed and not to mention her in pain from that asinine display and then there is the "lightsaber duel"(yeah it barely even registers as one) Shin should've just left, but she fights against Sabine and Shin had so many times to kill Sabine. But Shin stabs Sabine and for those who do not know is that lightsabers are plasma and if you are stabbed and it hits an organ then your blood will boil and the organ will liquefy turning that organ into slop and when that happens you are 100% dead or Shin could've just pulled the lightsaber to the left leaving a hole on Sabine left side. But the bottom feeder known as Dave Filoni continues to bend over backwards by coming up with any BS excuse to save his beloved characters(he has done it with Ashoka Tano, Cad Bane and now Sabine) and I'll just end this with one more thing and that is Sabine is not force sensitive and was never hinted at for this is Dave changing his characters in order to fit this BS story and that is just one of several reasons why Ashoka is low tier. Also on a personal note that this is something that neither Kathleen Kennedy, Rian Johnson and Dave Filoni will never understand and that is in the Star Wars mythos we are all connected to the force, but there are only a few who are sensitive to it and those types can harness the force and use it and that is what makes this fictional galaxy more unique foe the Jedi and the Sith make this galaxy more alien then it already is and KK, RJ and DF didn't get the lesson that when everyone has the force, then no one else will. Jedi Brooks you have done well yet again and I hereby announce that you have just gained another sub to your channel my good sir.

@@rubydoo3307 Definitely. I watched it even without having played the game before and it's still great.

Using Arcane as a comparison? That's not fair.

The idea of a Mandalorian becoming a Jedi is a cool idea but I think it needs to be done as a premise of a story, as the character’s backstory. It shouldn’t be an addition to the character at a later date. Could very well be that that I’m just a big ol’ misogynist, but you already have a character that is established as a teenage Mandalorian with a passion for graffiti, and later is revealed to essentially be a princess. Later also making her a Jedi feels over inflated. She’s a character a teenager would come up with as a self insert.

You know, a movie or something about Tarre Vizla, the first Mandalorian jedi, who crafted the Darksaber, would be pretty rad if done right.

arcane is just too fucking good, comparing it to anything else is basically unfair at this point.

To be fair, this crackhead that was holed up in my moms house(long story) ended up getting shot in the stomach by police during a shootout. She lost most of her stomach and lived. I still absolutely agree with just about everything you've said, just wanted to share an interesting fact. Good day.
