You've given an old 70's soldier a new lease of life again. Cracking job as always Gary . Cheers.

Hi Bob and thanks :-) It's a shame we don't see many of these historic makes still in production today. One contributor commented on the exquisite binding and I suppose that type of feature may have priced them out of the market. Cheers, Gary :-)

Hi Gary, now this one certainly brings back memories. Back in my school days I was in a little band that made a lot of noise in the music room during lunchtimes and even did a gig now and again. For reasons best known to a 14 year old me and my mates we called the band "King Kool" My mate in the band got one of these for Christmas and I was green with envy. I thought it was a wonderful guitar and the old Selmer wah wah pedal I had sounded so much better with his guitar plugged in than it did with mine.

Hahahahahaha, hi Reeldin :-) I'm literally laughing out loud for 'King Kool - that's properly funny. All the rich kids at my school (which was most of them) had the usual Avon, Shaftesbury, Columbus products and I'd traded my Kawai acoustic plus cash for a Hagstrom P46 deluxe. It was unfashionable but the quality was undeniable. Cheers, Gary :-)

Morning Foxy🇦🇺😎👍, they did a beautiful job of the multi-layered binding. Sublime jamming as usual 🎸😍👍.

Hi Billy and thanks :-) Makes you wonder why that binding can't go on modern guitars - even budget ones! Cheers, Gary :-)

Nice one! Looks like a Matsumoku. Build quality on these were excellent however they usually went cheap on the tuners and pickups. Fakebuckers were the norm. Cheers!

Hi Mr Whitesnake :-) You're spot on here. Other than the manufacturers using Maxons or DiMarzios, many went with the single coil in a humbucker housing and even some of the higher end guitars got the cheapo tuners. I never got to have a go on a Jedson back in the day so this was a treat for me. Cheers, Gary :-)

Hi Gary, another nice vid mate - love to see the 70's beauties you bring on. The guitar I most regret parting with (probably) was a 70's MiJ CMI telecaster (type) deluxe, not sure if you ever came across that brand? but the one I had was super.
@FoxysGuitarShow Жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne and thanks :-) Cleartone Musical Instruments. Did Jim Marshall have something to do with them? They did a range of copies but I haven't come across the Telecaster, just the Gibsons. I can understand why you miss your CMI, the majority of those Japanese copies were awesome. Cheers, Gary :-)

Remember Jedson well my late cousiin Bob had the tele copy horribble he was a lefty and the bloke in the shop said if you take this and swap the nut round for noew I'll order a left handed version and you can swap when it comes in , of coufse it never happened and he got offered to £5 in part exchange .in the same shop ! Bob sold it on and i found him a lefty Watkins Rapierr 33 in a S/H shop for £45 including hard case which he kept for ages .( Btw i warned people off that shp for years ! Still dont use it fifty years on🥸🥸)..

Hi Bill :-) I was rather hoping you'd name and shame mate! There have been so many shops run into the ground with this kind of customer treatment over the years I'm surprised this outfit's still up and running. My buddy is left handed but taught himself to play right handed due to lack of available/affordable gear. Cheers, Gary :-)

@@FoxysGuitarShow I could but the original owner is no longer there but a couple of times I was browsing outside and got chatting to someone who was looking for a guitar for their son or daughter a volunteered to help them and I went through every 3/4 scale guitar in the shop before going back to the second one then insisting that he changed the strings ( they were black!) Or we would go elsewhere , he did, when my niece wanted to learn I went there again and did the same thing again demanding new strings which I fitted myself and set up when he saw me come in the shop he looked daggers at me and put his cigar out ( locals will recognise this the shop always stank or cigar smoke I'm a lifelong anti smoker !) btw that guitar is still being passed through the family my brother step grandkids are getting the use of it once I've serviced it ? .. have a good Christmas Gaz.✌️☮️

Hi Paul :-) Blimey, you don't see the Japanese basses much these days. In fact, I don't recall seeing a Jedson bass so it must be worth a fair few quid as a collectable. Cheers, Gary :-)

Ive had one of these since the early 80s, it was my first guitar. Ive read several times the bodies are some sort of ply. When ive looked in the cavities it seems to be a solid wood. Maybe the construction wasn't constant. If anybody knows please let me know. Cheers
@FoxysGuitarShow2 күн бұрын
Hi Andrew :-) From my experience, the most cost effective supply was used at the time of manufacture and it seems it was a bit random. The majority of the Avon, Columbus and Saxon guitars were ply but certainly I've seen the odd solid lump of mahogany slip through the net from time to time. Some of my faves were the Hondo ash bodied guitars - very pretty woodwork and usually a prime wood species was left natural to show it off in all its glory. Sorry for a wooly answer but it was it a bit random. I've just reviewed a CSL from that era that was made from pure Unicorn tusk! Cheers, Gary :-)
@TheAndybow19642 күн бұрын
@FoxysGuitarShow Thanks for the information. Very interesting. I read once Leo Fender didn't chose Woods for bodies based on tone or what he thought worked best it basically what was cheap and available at the time. Maybe the Japanese had the same kind of philosophy. I'm not convinced by the entire "tone wood" thing anyway. Really appreciated the info. Good luck with the channel

Hi Ethan :-) Hmm, good question. Although there's not much to choose in terms of playability, I like the fretboard on the Jedson and the scarcity value. Cheers, Gary :-)
