How to rebuild a Garrett 2056 Turbo (GT2056V) off of a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD. These jeeps are equipped with the OM642 Diesel Engine. They are a Mercedes engine and can be found in many of their vehicles.
I'll fill this section out with part numbers in the next few days along with a link to where you can get the core.

Awesome work. very informative. thanks you for efforts spent. i have a question on vgt. i am getting turbo overboost problem on same jeep 3.0 crd. it happens at full engine load with full throttle. we refurbished the actuator and nothing has changed( actually nothing seemed wrong with black actuator).p 0046 code disappeared but we have stil turbo overboost problem. will there be a partially stuck open exhaust ports on turbo? do you thing EGR or a MAP sensor could cause such situations? Freezefrema data shows that, engine was warmed up, pressure read by MAP is 1.5 bar at full throttle when the symptops appeared at that time and then it wend to limp mode. Restart was necessary to recover from limp mode. Low revs are very alive right now and it feels like a remapped engine now. Any comment is highly appreciated. I am lost.

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. I'd clean the egr or delete it and also take the turbo apart to make sure the fins aren't gummed up. Might be able to spay something inside the turbo to loosen you some sticky fins but not sure. Good luck

i did it and did it again just to understand it better. same turbo. just wanted to rebuild it felt like i had lagging issues. sold the jeep shortly after with the rebuilt turbo not installed.

What made you change the turbo was it making a grinding noise when decelerating or what was the symptom that prompted you to rebuild please thank you in advance.

I just wanted a new one and I wanted to learn how to rebuild one. Only reason really was just curiosity and I knew it was original

My 07' GL 320 makes a grinding noise on deceleration, or a second after I lift off the throttle. Replacing the turbo with a new Garrett unit.

Just saw this now. I got all my part numbers from idparts.com and also at the dodge dealership in Calgary they have a parts section right at the counter just full of these parts. They won’t know the Jeep turbo but find out what other vehicle it’s in and they can then get you exactly what you need
