I've worked though my project list to the point where I can finally put some more time into rebuilding my 1956 Jeep CJ5. In this episode I worked on forming the wheel houses, including hammer forming the beads in them, with mixed results. I didn't make some really nice braces for them though.

Love what you do, it's fun to watch a huge variety of processes working together. Also, the literal moment you're done with that bead roller, vevor is going to reach out to you with one.

Really enjoying the Jeep build. After recently rebuilding my XJ, I'm finding it's quite a bit cheaper to vicariously have someone else do all the work 🙂

I’m not easily impressed, but I’m very impressed with how you have learned how to make your tools and how to build sheet metal panels so well. I’m learning from you thank you!

HF bead roller, cant beat it. Also an English wheel and planishing hammer are uber helpful. Forge On!!!

😂 Obligatory complaint about Jeep being changed to electric! 😂 Sorry auto corruption… what I typed was nice plan using the air hammer like that. Very creative and I’ll be tucking that one away for future use!

If the bead roller comes out anything like your magnetic press brake it will be awesome. I can wait to see what you come up with. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺

I love these episodes Jeremy. It's super inspiring seeing your home made brake and welding bench being used, the bead forming was inventive and interesting, and the bracing came out great. You are nailing this car build 👍 Very keen to see a bead roller build. Cheers, Craig

Seen you release this at 5am, was just finishing my smoke and coffee before bed, i am glad i left it until now, you really did a great job here... Sure, with some deviations from expectations, but ain`t that always the case? At least with work that doesn`t involve a massive automated production assembly...

Figured a bead roller was on the horizon. I thought the hammer forming turned out not too bad for the amount of time you had in them though.

Your neighbours would have loved the noise. As someone who has done planishing this way I can attest to it's loudness.

If you stretch the metal before you hammer your beads in the you'll have a much better result

Jeremy, I'm really enjoying this series (and everything else you share too) especially since I have a '46 Willys CJ-2A (early model) that looks worse than your Jeep in the floors. I think Fred Flintstone could power & drive it now. ;) I'm getting a lot of ideas from you about how I might repair its tub. It will most likely end up being a "mule" too, rather than a "show pony" because I'm getting too old to really learn how a sheet metal "expert" would do it (though your work looks extremely good!). I'm also now retired so I don't expect to have a huge amount of time left to work on the Willys (or too many other projects).

Probably should invest in an English wheel first. There’s a particularly good episode of Make it Kustom that addresses bead rolling flat panels. He demonstrated how it was essential to wheel the flat panels to stretch the material before bead rolling, you’re going to be needing to pull material from somewhere for the beads

I really liked your ingenuity for creating those bead sections and actually think that is a great way to go with just a minor tweak. It seems you are not able to get a consistent result from the impacting across the piece so how about just placing a board up underneath that slot to limit the depth of deformation. Since the flat bottom would prevent the bit from going down any further it should provide a relatively simple way to get uniform results. In the event the bottom leaves a flat surface across the top of your shaped bead you could re-cut your slot narrower so that the air hammer bit impacts the sides of the channel (This might not work as it might prevent you from getting the depth of deformation into the metal but assuming you can maintain control you could router in some sloped edges make up for this … maybe) Hopefully this helps, I was hesitant to even bother commenting as I was thinking you might have already considered this but disregarded it for some reason, but then I remembered I sometimes miss the obvious solutions and wished someone would have suggested it to me so If it helps 👍 if not it won’t do any harm.

Sadly, no. I bought it, but only after checking the thickness of sheet metal on file cabinets, old lawn tractor carts, and various other potential sources of recycled Sheet metal.

oooh you have a super healthy metal spiraliser!!! ...are they fattening ...do they taste good? Is your jeep of landrover descent, the chassis looks awfully familiar, I wish I had a sheet bender as efficient as that one even with its dodgy capacitor my old landrover is a user too. I love driving it looking forward to the bead roller
