I installed these on my JK and it was quite the task. I have a Garvin roof rack and much like your tire carrier I had to drill new holes in the armor to mount the rack to them instead. great write up on this.

You are a brave and patient man. Good job dealing with both manufacturers imperfections. Although they both provide excellent products, there are some things left out in their R&D process. Thank you for sharing Casey.

No doubt. Usually I am pretty good at checking compatibility but missed this. Looking at Poison spyder corners, their lights are spaced further out.

When I did my rocker protection/rock sliders I had to do 10 nuts serts each side all but 1 worked perfectly, when they work right they are a great solution but you have to be very precise. Havent done it yet (year later) but going to step up to the next size sert. Only way I can figure to fix it. Btw not easy to get them out but a pair of side cuts and a little cussing works great

Ya those 2 spinners are going to be fun to get out. :( Probably grind the edge off and push em through if I can't tighten them more.

I was worried about getting sheet metal underneath and then not being able to step up the nut sert. It was not to bad I used the side cuts folded the lip up and pushed it in

A hinge kit drill would allow you to perfectly center drill all the holes

My advice, if you can get to the backside with a wrench of any sort, do not use a rivnut/nutsert. Don’t get me wrong I think they are a great solution when you can’t get to the backside of the area you are working on. I just think they are more trouble to use in general structural applications.

I agree, thats why I went bolts around the cover. @trailblazzers did his and drilled out from the inside to get nuts on the back.

Great work Casey! Rivnuts are so freaking frustrating to work with. It took me 3 nights to mount my rockskins with the same blue tool you used later. Had 4 rivnuts spin on me. JB weld helped to keep them seated.😄

Thanks. I have 2 spinners that I need to fix. Im going to crazy glue them, then try to get the tool threaded into them and crush em some more.

Putting the light grommets in a pot of hot water makes them a lot easier to play with 🖒

Good idea - I will have to fight them again after I powdercoat the corners.

Great job! Looks great. Could you take the damaged rubber part of the taillight and put that under the tire carrier mount? Or maybe cut it out completely and out the missing section under it to allow the spacers to be removed? Thanks for the tip on the tool also! I will definitely be using one of the bigger ones!

That is going to be my next fix, is cut the damaged rubber off and go under the receiver plate. The spacers throw the carrier alignment off too much. My last resort solution is to notch the receiver plate but I want to avoid that. I think cutting the rubber might be the best option from some one I spoke to on Instagram.

Notch out the driver side bracket a bit if your worried about strength flip the piece you cut out and re-weld it back into the inside of bracket. If it’s still tight and can’t adjust anymore maybe you can push the passenger side out the same distance with aluminum spacers you made for drivers side. Great videos!

Thanks. The spacers aren't great, it moves the receiver out too far. Chatting on Instagram, I think notching just the rubber grommet might work the best. I'll post the final results on IG when i'm done with powder coat.

I also have the EVO rear skins i wish I would have gone aluminum they looked to be easier to fit. What are you doing for reverse lights I only have a small one on my back-up camera and no reverse lights is why I needed the skins in the first place. (freakin night wheeling). I did put a bottle opener with a small LED to illuminate the license plate. Its the law in my area. I can't figure out how to post a picture in the comments.

I think the aluminum were definately more flexible and quite a bit lighter as well. I have KC Hilites cyclones on my tire carrier, and on the side of my rock sliders pointing backwards that come on when I go into reverse. Works really well for backing up and seeing the wide tires and fenders so they don't hit things.

Could you show video of the gap at the bottom of the armor? I am curious how big the gap is right in the corner of the tub

If you DM me on Instagram I can. The corner gab is much larger, depending on the bumper you have is how much youll see it, but Id suspect stuff will get up in it.
