Sir, you helped me a lot. I just used 5 of those to prepare all four doors just to make sure. It worked, my Jeep Wrangler JK is dry af. Best regards from Germany and thank you very much!
@leventbuda2294Ай бұрын
Did you make the rear doors a full turn or did you put half a turn of sealant tape like the front doors? Can you explain?
@tobiasmuller5451Ай бұрын
@ Yes, full turn on all 4 doors. I then had to cut them where the soft top meets the car body, so when I changed to the hard top, I also prepared the remaining area of the hard top. As a result, I now have full coverage on both, the soft as well as the hard top. In total I needed 5 of those EPDM black rubber seals. Still very cheap and much more effective in total in comparison to what my Jeep Dealer offered me (1.000€ for the non-functional original seal kit).

Thank you for this video!I followed your instructions and it slowed the leak considerably, but there was still a small amount of water creeping in. Thank you. My JK started leaking in the top corner awhile ago, but only if it rained really hard and it wasn't a big pain to clean up. A few months later any light rain turns the entire front floor pan into a bathtub. I already know the dealerships don't care about customers, but my problem is that most mechanics in my area are closed or it takes weeks to get an appointment for so much as an oil change now with this bullshit police state lockdown. At least Home Depot is open and if I can solve my problem for 10 bucks or less, AWESOME! Going out there today to pick some up.

Just did it to my 2016 JKU, had a flood of water on my passenger side every time it rains, I have the slush mats too, and water getting underneath them soaking the carpet. I bought the auto/ marine strip though, almost same pattern that interlocks with the current stripping, $6.99 for 10 feet, and the adhesive is great. Wiped down with 3 or 4 alcohol preps, measured and stuck on exactly like you did, we’ll see how things hold up with the next rain event. Gotta say one thing, I can tell the doors have a much better seal when closed, sure my ride will be quieter too.

This video was very helpful; it inspired me to study all of this very closely for a few days, once it stopped raining; in my case, I had one inch of water in the floorboard and on the drivers window arm-rest / upholstery; and, some water on the passenger-side carpet as well. I was studying how the water got into the car, with my wife inside the car, myself gently flooding the car with a garden hose (no sprayer); While it is very difficult to tell exactly how the water gets in, in my case it started somewhere on the header-seal, probably at the "molded-end" which is like hard-plastic and relies on the door-gasket; I bought the exact EPDM weather-stripping that Jeepin 4me is using in this video; and, a tube of black-silicone Permatex adhesive-sealant (very strong adhesive); Before I applied the weather stripping tape, I cleaned the leading edge of the windshield-header-seal (at the very top) of old adhesive; it appeared that the dealer or factory, had filled that leading edge with a fillet of some sort of adhesive (silicone / clear) that was coming loose from the header-seal as well as coming loose from the paint (body); I cleaned it really good with a shop cloth and picked out all the bits of cured silicone; Then, I opened that gap between seal and windshield frame with a plastic putty knife and blew the space behind the seal-gasket out with compressed air, for the full width of the vehicle; Then, I opened that same gap again, one inch at a time, and squirt the black permatex adhesive-sealant into that gap; behind the windshield-header seal - for the full length of the windshield, and followed down the ends of the header sealant to the "molded ends" and put silicone behind each of those and created a clean fillet of sealant as well; it is still curing; Cut your adhesive-sealant tube at the first - smallest diameter - on the plastic nozzle that comes with the silicone; I did not attempt to use a caulk-gun-sized tube, either, just a small three oz tube; you should be standing on your seats of the JK to do this; and remove both sides of the FREEDOM TOP, if you have one; wear some sneakers so you don't tear up your seats; this will give you a good vantage point; Bear in mind: Chrysler has put butyl behind the molded-ends already; you should see it; if it is not behind the molded end, they may have missed it at the factory; that entire seal has a adhesive tape on the backside (you peel a tape, and press it in and then roll it with a roller); if yours is loose, consider having the entire seal replaced or do it yourself; If the factory couldn't get this right, I don't know that I can trust the dealer on it (and there are specialists out there, so find one); As Jeepin 4me said: it may not be the cause of the issue; in my case, a gamble of $5 in adhesive sealant was my only risk; but, i had a big clue on mine: that fillet of clear silicone that had already been applied to the leading edge of the windshield-header-seal .. that was a huge CLUE - that I had not noticed until my two hours of testing with a garden hose the other day; I finally SAW IT ... clear silicone flaking off that little edge of the seal .. it was not much, maybe it was three milli-meters wide, but it looked pretty important! I went ahead and did the garden hose treatment, and it appears that this has fixed it; in my observation: you probably need to only do this at each end; if you read the shop manual from JEEP (the leak manual) you will see all the pain-staking butly and adhesive tape that is on the backside of the windshield-header-seal, so you can tell that these ends are both critical. I just went ahead and did the whole thing; I rehearsed this in my sleep last night, over-thinking it; it took me all of twenty or thirty minutes to clean the little gap between this seal (all one long piece, btw) and the body; get that silicone behind it, and then press down so that a little bit squeezes out, and then clean that up a bit with a finger and a paper towel (or ten); So, that is my experience with this same leak; The other bits may benefit from the same treatment; that hard-seal with the button at the door mid-point, could use some attention too, I am sure; Anyway, I think that the sealant was a better solution than a new seal ($100) because the windshield-header seal was working for the most part and it was very well adhered to the windshield-frame (mostly): but, pay really close attention to both ends of this long windshield-heder seal, those two molded ends are extremely critical. Cost, about $5 for the Permatex. I feel really lucky - because I have been studying this for weeks and deliberating over what to do with it; I hope that this helps. I still have the EPDM ready, just in case; Ffor the record, I know that this will not be my last leak on this vehicle - but I am learning to own a Jeep .. and the leak-issue was seriously disappointing, initially, but 30 years of driving Miatas has tempered my spirit on water ingress a bit; So, just own it ... it is a fact of owning a Jeep - go ahead and buy the tools and pieces you need to keep your Jeep dry inside and it will make you a lot happier in the long-run. At the same time, I got the courage to re-position the door a bit too (this did not solve the leak though); just to make sure the door closes easily; don't do this alone and don't do it if you have never done it before, please; And, the door latch-plate(s) is something everyone should learn how to adjust, it can make a big difference in how much one has to slam the door to get it to close; Chrysler did not do a good job on door fitment, and for the most part there are only a series of compromises you can make, to get a door-fitment, there is no ideal outcome for door-fitment on this model of vehicle;

After doing the weatherstripping trick my passenger side the door jam leak stopped but the carpet was still getting wet. I crawled under the dash and noticed a rust trail. I pulled out the speaker and found the culprit of the rust. The rust was coming from the clamp around the antenna grommet. Apparently water was making its way through the grommet. Black silicone to the rescue. Smeared a gob around the grommet and wire. I closed up the JKU and flooded the top with water. No more leak!

I just bought a 2014 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited October 2022. I have plastic flor mats and did not realize the carpet was completely wet. I love this video but was wondering if I can add the rubber gasket on the whole door? I was also wanting to add it to the rear doors. What is your thoughts on doing all the doors?
@jeepin4me9212 жыл бұрын
As you watch the video I did from the top of the A pillar to the bottom of the doors, you can do this all the way around but that won’t help. There are areas around the doors that do nothing but channel water, they don’t stop leaking. I will post another video very soon to show and explain in greater detail. Thanks again for watching and remember to like, share, and subscribe!

Why won't it help if I do the whole door? What area do you recommend for the rear door seals? The rubber gasket is very pliable, and I am leaning towards doing the whole door, front and rear. I've seen other videos where they do the whole door. They even sell their own overpriced rubber kits. I was considering buying until I saw your video. Your video is straightforward and directed for the Jeepers. I look forward to your next video.

Just bought my 1st Jeep . Used 08 wrangler Sahara. Same issue but on the passenger side. Gonna give this a shot. New top but not new seals.
@jeepin4me9214 жыл бұрын
Mike McWilliams being its an 08, check all your seals for ware before you do this fix. Whenever buying use you never know how the other owner treated or even check theses seals. I know that this fix has helped thousands of jeep owners leak issue as well as mine. Good luck and thanks again for watching and remember to subscribe and share!!

The seals seem to be in good shape. Got a storm last night and it was pouring buckets. The only place that leaked was that spot on the passenger side. Have a day off Thursday so for around $7 this is worth a shot. Wanted a 2dr wrangler for 20 years . A little water is not going to deter me. Lol

I just did mine. Used Superstick Weatherstrip bought at O'Reilly auto parts. 7/16 thick by 11/16 wide x 8' long ended up being 2" short on psgr side hope I get good results did both sides. Supposed to get some rain through the overnight. Hopefully the stripping cures enough by late tonight.

walked into the dealership and they quoted me 185$ an hour for water testing. Just to find the problem not even solved it. Told them hand me my keys back and found this video. This 7$ solution is alot cheaper than the kit that JEEPLEAKFIX offers as well. thanks.

I’ve notice more water in the backseat floor than I have up front on my jku. Do you think this will help prevent the water from getting to the back or do you think it would be something else? Thanks in advance!

Good info in this video but in future could there be less movement on the camera as it is difficult to see exactly where to place the weather stripping.
