I'm running Mopar's 2" lift on my JLUR with 35's and other than the minor spring bow and the axles being off-centered, it drives and wheels flawlessly. They did such an incredible job with the JL. I'm impressed how little your 37s make contact. Looks like your gate is holding up well, too.
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
The Mopar kit is a really nice kit. In fact, we almost went with it but knew we wanted to run 37's. Regarding the tailgate, here's a link to show you what we did to make it work. jlwrangler.com/showthread.php?886-CARRY-a-37-quot-SPARE-TIRE-on-a-JL-WRANGLER-TAILGATE-with-LoD-RISER-BRACKETS

Excellent. I'll look into those when they're available. Right now, my spare is essentially stuffed into the bumper. It just barely fits, but since it's on the stock rim, the tail gate bump stops are still long enough to do their job. However, the tailgate is being lifted just a smidge when its closed and that I am not a fan of. Do you have ParkSense on your Jeep? I'm curious if sticking the camera out a couple extra inches affects how that detection works. Of course, even with all the technology these things come with, I still look back when I'm in reverse!

One more inch of lift should take care of it. One thing I would like to have seen you try is a set of 35s on the stock suspension. Jeep said they would fit without rubbing. At least on the Rubicon.
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
LOL!! It was just minor rubbing of a piece of plastic. I personally like a low center of gravity and would hate to think I'd need to run 1" more of lift just to prevent something so simple especially when the fix for it cost NOTHING :)

I could be wrong, but I think that removing those brackets caused the bumper to shift up and damage the body while you were in moab. You may have been able to move it with your own strength, but if you look closely, those brackets that held the plastic trim pieces also acted as another connection between the rear bumper and the frame. The bumper damaged the corners of the body in moab where those brackets should have been holding the bumper in place. I would just remove that inner plastic piece that was connected to each bracket and reshape the fender liner. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise a very awesome and informative video! Best Jeep videos of youtube!

In general I think your have a ton of Jeep knowledge and your videos are fantastic. This one I think I need to provide a little critique in hopes that some comment-readers will understand what I'm about to point about before they go order 37's for their JL with a 2.5" boost. Tire sizes are designed in families. A 37" class tire from one manufacturer is will not be the same size as a 37" tire from another manufacturer. There is actually quite a wide tolerance band on acceptable sizes that can be sold within a family of tire. In the industry, a tire size family is designed for by designing to the "max grown" or largest size of that tire size family. I bring this up because laymen watching your video will think "if it works for Wayalife (an authority on all things Jeep), it must be work for me." Only to find out they may get rubbing that could yield fender damage. This would be because the tire they purchased could represent max grown tire size within that family, or close to it, while the tire you chose for this video might be further towards the smallest size of the tire size family. So the best way to avoid this after watching this video would be to: 1. Look up what tires Wayalife is running in this video, and look up what the design tire OD for that model is 2. Make sure the tires that you purchase are equal to, or smaller than, the design OD for the model that Wayalife is using Otherwise, the rubbing you get might be significantly worse!

You assume there are 37's out there that are bigger in diameter than a Cooper STT Pro. Of all the 37's that I've personally run over the years, I can assure you that these are about as big as they come. If anything, I have run others that are SMALLER than them. The steps I've taken to address the rubbing I was getting has also worked for a myriad of people running different 37's as well.

Another great video which further makes things complicated, I bought a rubicon recon last year with the idea of trading for the jl if there were significant improvements. So far to make my Rubicon recon 2.5” lift and 37s 1. Change fender flares, jl Rubicon has it 2.get Oscar big bore steering box, jl pretty much has it 3.4.88 regear, seems like the jl is fine with 4.1 4. Driveshafts upgrade maybe not super necessary on the recon but the jl with the funky fad and reworked exhaust negates that, plus no driveshafts or gears for jl yet but that could be a negative. Sorry I’m rambling but I’m about to drop big $$ on mods and I’m trying to do it once and only once but choosing which rubicon the recon or the jl I just don’t know so I’m just asking since you’ve been modding the old and new what do you think put a lot into the known rubicon recon or much less in the unknown jl ?

Looking to do a lift soon but couldn’t help and put the 37x12.50/17 that were laying in the garage I on the the stock Rubicon wheels while I gather some parts and research on what lift I want to go with The only rubbing I’m getting with on road use is on the front Oem steel front bumper skid plate when turning full lock and on passenger side rear very little on plastic liner My question is are there steering stop bolts that can be adjusted on the JL like there was on JK?? or is that not recommended to do? will be short term waiting on spidertrax hubcentric spacers to arrive but looks like they’re weeks out on arrival

ALL tires have a true measurement that is shorter than what is written on the sidewalls, this is TOTALLY NORMAL. The only time true size should ever be taken into consideration is when calibrating your speedometer. Otherwise, ALL manufacturers refer to what's on the sidewalls when talking about lifts or other modifications. In other words, if a manufacturer says their lift kit is designed to run 37's, they are talking an advertised 37x12.50 and NOT a tire with a true 37" measurement. To get that, you would have to run a 40" tires. With all that said, this link should help give you perspective on things: wayalife.com/showthread.php/35075-The-Ultimate-TRUE-TIRE-SIZE-Database

just out of curiosity,wouldn't lowering the air pressure in the tires,help out in the clearance issues?? my thought,is with less air,the tires would be overall alittle lower,and with more flex also...i would think,it would make a difference in those areas...it appeared the tires were not aired down...i may be wrong...just saying.....

The only place less air would effect is the bottom of your tire - the point where it meets the ground. Think about it.

New jeep guy here! I'm going with a 2.5" lift with 37's and I'm just an over lander with no intentions on rock crawling unless I have to in order to get out of the woods. With that said, I have a roof top tent and other gear coming to be mounted. So my question is what gears do u recommend for me right now? Thank you as always and keep the videos coming.
@wayalife
@wayalife 4 жыл бұрын
I suppose it depends on what transmission you have and whether or not you have a Rubicon with 4.10 gears. If you have an automatic and 4.10's, I would run them as is before spending any money on a re-gear. I think you might find that it'll get the job done and that will save you a TON of money. IF you decide that you want more power, 5.13 is what I would recommend.
@Nade375
@Nade375 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have a 2019 Rubicon automatic. So I guess if my Jeep gets to a point where it’s searching for gears a lot than its time to go up to 5.13’s?
@wayalife
@wayalife 4 жыл бұрын
It won't hunt for gears so much as you won't see 8th gear as much. I ran my 37's on the 4.10 gears for quite a while and found it to be more than enough for my needs and I carry a ton of gear. I've done videos where I talk about this and show me going up hills too. All I'm saying is rather than planning on spending a ton of money before you have any experience running 37's, get a feel for things first and then decide. Just trying to save you some cash.

Pardon my ignorance, if you wanted to, would getting new fenders like the metal cloak tube fenders remove this issue. I'm assuming you would want the smallest lift to keep center of gravity low. Basically I want to add a 2.5 lift but do what I can to avoid having to reform plastic as time goes on. Could getting aftermarket fenders fix this?
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
Only if the aftermarket fenders in question get rid of the factory fender liners because that's where the problem resides. But then, you could always just do that without having to buy a thing.

What about the computer and speedometer configuration when adding larger tires for the JL? Those of us with RAMs and JKs can use the AEV procal. I assume this is a task that requires dealership assistance with the JL.
@wayalife

Unlike the JK before, you can now take your JL to the dealership and they can recalibrate your speedo. You purchase what is called an MVP and it is good for up to 2 calibrations. This includes new gear ratio and tire size changes.

A 3" lift is definitely a better fit for 37's if you don't want to deal with any rubbing and or trimming to mitigate them. If you want a lower stance which can be desirable for a lower center of gravity, this is an option as well.

Wayalife well that sure is strange. I checked both on my tv and in the KZbin app and I can hear it. Can actually hear it more predominantly on iPhone. I’m a video editor and photographer as well, so this space isn’t foreign to me. Let me look at the audio waves and see if I can find the frequency...or video a video that you’ve done where I don’t hear the tone. Maybe then you can compare the gear used in both videos.

As someone who has so much experience with lifts, and the same Jeep as I have, I've heard mixed reviews on the Mopar lift. Any thoughts?
@wayalife

What you heard is right. It's a good lift but one that will give you more lift than is advertised and that can be an issue. Also, the front springs are soft and have had bowing issues but nothing that can't be corrected with new spring isolators.

@wayalife

Actually, I would say 3.5" at most especially being that most lift kits yield way more lift than is advertised. This is just a spacer lift and so we got exactly 2.5" of lift. 3" or 3.5" of actual lift at most would be good to prevent rubbing with 37s. You will need to calibrate your speedometer with bigger tires.

Great video! I am new to off-roading and just got a JL Sport. I was reading that the JL Sport has a gear ratio of 3.45. Do you think I would have to regear if I do a 2.5 inch lift with 35 inch tires? Also, do you think 35's would fit on a 2.5 in lift on a JL Sport without rubbing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@wayalife
@wayalife 6 жыл бұрын
Assuming you have an automatic, you should be fine with 35's and without the need to regear. You'll still have plenty of power. Also, so long as you install the correct bump stop extensions, you shouldn't have any rubbing issues with 2.5" of lift or at least, in terms of your fenders but depending on what wheels you run, you may have a slight rub at a full turn. Not really a big deal though and something you can correct by adjusting your steer stops.

@wayalife 4 жыл бұрын
@@ClevelandWHAT Honestly, you should work off of the actual amount of lift your kit gave you and if it came with new springs (as opposed to spacers), you more than likely got at least 3" of lift out of it. The real purpose of bump stop extensions is to help prevent the over compression of your coils - as in, they squash down to the point where they no longer return to their original height. That being said, IF your kit really did give you just 2.5" of lift or even a bit less, going 2" should be okay.
