Hey pine Hill Auto, I am from the Caribbean, the beautiful island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I also do Automotive Diagnostics and Repairs here in my homeland as a business, I do not own a shop as yet, I currently go around with my tools (my launch x431 v +, fluke 1587 meter and other basic tools) I enjoy looking at your videos, I find them very informative and educational. I like the way how you do troubleshooting, straight to the point and waste no time, mind you all faults are not that easy to Diagnose and Repair but most if the time or maybe all the time, you normally get the problem solve, I am just writing to inform u that I am also part of your audience.

That’s the thing about Dorman : we always make fun of the quality of their parts,but sometimes they’re the only ones making a part like this connector,not even the OEM supports older cars anymore. I just wish they would have better quality control of their parts,they have such potential as a company. Oh well... Thanks for the video! 👍

@Russell_Duncan5 жыл бұрын
I’ve replaced those thermal fuses before on VW resistors. Difficult to get a good connection though as the terminals on the resistor are steel not copper. I’d agree with replacing the whole resistor if it’s cheap but the VW ones are around £60! Used to get the thermal fuses from Maplin before they closed their doors 😞 (A bit like RadioShack)

Ivan, its David Keller Had a 2011 grand Cherokee that had been in 3x before for the same problem now it comes to me. Other " mechanic " replaced blower motor and shipped it. Well of course it came back and I think my boss replaced the motor again...good to go ? Well...back again Dave will figure it out! I actually had it act up on me right away and I noticed it wasn't just the blower motor that quit it was also the condenser fan and compressor too, all 3 just quit and then would come back on (maybe). This was automatic climate control and the display never changed, yes I tapped on the head unit...no changes. I noticed after starting if it was going to act up it would do it within a minute. 55 seconds to be exact. I scanned the hvac and had 3 codes. 1was blower circuit mall and the other 2 were blend door over travel codes. I just last Friday had another 11 go with the sticky seal blend door broken gear problem from hell so I knew those codes but I was looking more toward electrical issues relays head unit etc. Well this one had electronic climate control and what it would do is in that 55 seconds it saw blend door travel problem and it would shut off compressor fan and blower for just awhile then try again...over and over then sometimes it would pass its test and work fine. Drove me nuts all day but I know both blend doors have to be right first. They used these seals on the blend doors and it can't take the heat. It turns into this "goo" glue and holds the doors shut big time! Kinda like butyl ribbon if you know what it is ...breaking the gears on actuators so what I did was I used spray lubricant to soften up the tar like seal and scraped the shit off enough to get the door back in place thru the removed upper vent. Not the proper way but I wasn't pulling the case for free and I didn't misdiagnose it. I guess they make aluminum doors to fix it. The original door has the seal on 3 sides and its just a gooey Mopar mess! First one was dual zone cold on one side full heat on the other.... I ended up softening it up

The 2006 Commander allows you to "vote in" a new key as long as you have the original 2 keys. I got one of the blank fobs and had a key place cut the blank. He cautioned me that it might not work, but it did. The owner's manual has the instructions. You add up to 4 extra keys for the vehicle. Chryco must not have realized the extra money to be made with programming fobs until later.
@skiplazauski14975 жыл бұрын
I know that it is an awkward position to solder in but I prefer that to 'crimp clips'. Usually, crimp clips are aluminum to the wire's copper forming a bi-metal joint which will create a resistive junction over time. I've had to re-do some of these in my time. Good diag and 'Down with Dorman'. Dr Skip

I am curious - I noticed when you had the China Key Fob apart and the original, they both had ferrite bar antennas inside that are commonly used for low frequencies. I am going to take a guess that the Key Fob also functions as an "imobilizer" and that is what that is for. The door unlock and all the other buttons wouldn't use such an antenna. By the way - great troubleshooting method, and I know you spent a bit of time at that burned up resistor to explain how it works to your viewers, that you would have otherwise simply replace along with the Dorman (sorry Atra) connector. Once again your method of see what is working first, before trying to figure what is broken works the fastest!

What about the blower air intake filter ? A clogged air intake filter is usually the reason for too high blower currents and too little blower resistor cooling in the air channel, taking out both components over time. Just saying - while parts are still new and not been running for too long - as I assume this is a recent repair. Thanks for sharing the repair, always lots of those little things, hints etc in your repair videos. - and I love your generic russian approach: repair if possible - thats how we do it when we grow retired 😊

Was the cabin filter ok? Sometimes when blocked the restriction causes excess load on blower.
@simonparkinson10535 жыл бұрын
Strangely with an air restriction the blower will tend to draw a little less current, but good airflow is vital to keep the resistor cool. Tight bushings in the motor (to clarify: sleeve type bearings, not the carbon brushes!!) cause excess current draw and are the biggest cause of resistor thermal fuse failure.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics5 жыл бұрын
I would have to think about that. Say you have a 100% restriction. Then there is no air flow. Would there be MORE or LESS load on the motor?

As in not all but many cases, Dorman in fact made this pigtail connector way better than JEEP as it has heavier gauge wires on all four pins which is what had failed on the OEM, the low speed pin over heated and that is usually due to the resistor failing and/or a poor wire connection/terminal/size wire. Dorman isn't the worst of them out there but they do have some complete blunders on a few products just like any other make.
