Quick overview of how to diagnose why your Jeep Wrangler JK has NO HEAT. This is in a 2014 model and it ends up being a faulty temperature blend door actuator which is a very common failure on these. If your engine is not getting up to operating temp or one/both of the heater core hoses are cold this video wont help you. `

Great video. One helpful tip: i believe in most JK's that airduct is actually split lenghwise ("two halves"), so if you press on the sides it will pop open and then it is very easy to remove and reinstall WITHOUT having to unbolt that module in the back. Will save you some extra tinkering and bolt dropping ;)

Yeah, that little doo dad that you weren't sure of, (at about 2:40) is the control unit for the automatic transmission, or TCM. It has 2 connectors that run the length of the bottom of the module, both with locking squeeze tabs. They require a firm pull straight down after squeezing the lock tab, to disconnect, and a firm push to reseat. I normally disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting electrical connectors, especially when they connect to a computer, but I failed to do that this time and wound up with a U0101 fault code. I disconnected the battery, and went back in to reseat, and discovered one of the connectors wasn't locked in all the way. I don't know if the code was the result of failure to disconnect the battery, or failure to properly seat the connector, but I suspect the latter. Anyway, I was able to clear the code with my little cube code reader even though it said it couldn't be cleared that way. Thanks for the video, it helped me bypass a dodgy hvac control module so that I could have heat while I await the part to arrive.

(2014 Jeep Wrangler JK) I actually just fixed it w/out having to take anything apart...The plastic arm was just jammed in the spline shaft. I laid my head underneath, awkwardly, and shined a flashlight on the white arm and pushed on it till it moved. I turned the Jeep on and switched from cold to hot and it worked on its own. 😊 Thanks for the video!

2014 Wrangler JK, no heat. Moved the plastic arm up the spline shaft. Heat is working. Of course, I had it mostly torn apart before I realized I could see the actuator arm from underneath the dash. Very awkward node positioning, but know I know that is indeed a quick fix. Thank you for the video and this comment! 🤙

Wow, thank you!! Great freaking video!! I’m in the process of learning more and more about fixing my Jeep Wrangler 2013 JK. I recently had bad clicking in my dash and my steering controls weren’t working on right side. I replaced the actuator but blindly not realizing the air duct was so easy to remove (being novice). Thus creating my AC/heating system to stay in the “heating” position. It’s looking like based off this video I set the arm in the wrong position. Wish I found this video when I first replaced my actuator 🤪 thanks again dude for great audio, video, and explanation 🤘

This was a great video, but I would recommend you tell folks to remove the bracket that is next to the floor vent and held on by two 8 mm bolts, this provides enough room to actually get your hands in there. ALSO, I would strongly recommend you tell folks to REMOVE the driver's seat (a pretty simple task) to allow room to work. I notice in your video there are two bolts laying on the floorboard that appear to match the front seat retaining bolts. BTW the floor vent was really hard to pull out.. :)

In my case (2011 JK), the pivoting arm was just jammed in the cold position. Without taking anything apart and laying on my back in the footwell, I took a look upwards directly above the gas pedal area and with a flashlight had a pretty clear view of the mechanism. With the key on I rotated the dial and nothing was moving. I used a piece of wood dowel to poke and prod the part around a bit, heard a click sound, and it came back to life. I sprayed some white lithium grease on it and it seems good to go. I'm still going to buy a new part though and replace it in the very near future. Thanks for the video!

Great video; however my air duct's removal was the most difficult part of the job. I highly recommend splitting the air duct prior to attempting to removing, it made it much easier. The same can be said as to the reinstallment of the air duct, install the part that clips to the vehilce first, followed by the end that snaps to the air duct.

I'm having the same problem (not blowing warm) and am doing the research to help me troubleshoot it. I have read that if you've narrowed it down to a dead blend door actuator, no movement out of the arm, etc, before you go to the trouble of removing and replacing the actuator, try unplugging the actuator, plug it back in, and see if the actuator now moves. Some people have reported this "reboot" got their actuator functioning again. It may or may not work for you, but it's worth a quick try before replacing it.

Back in February, I took my 2014 Jeep, same as in the video, to get the heater fixed, he charged me $126 for the actuator, and $95 to replace it. I figured I was being overcharged, but, if it works, I'll take the hit since I have very little mechanical experience. In other words, like most people, I'm at their mercy. When I picked up my Jeep, I turned on the heater and hot air blew out. So I paid and off I went. I live in Southern California so I haven't had much need for the heater. Fast forward to November, I turn on the heater, and no hot air. I did like the video says and checked the hoses while running, and they were warm, so it's the actuator that I paid over $200 to replace. I'm pissed off. I'm going in tomorrow to see if the guy will correct his shoddy work. today, when I get home, I'm going to look inside by removing the plate and see if I can check on the little door lever and see if it's stuck. Thank you for the video.

Okay so after doing mine. I figured out these things will always fail over time. When you turn the knob to half way from cold , it’ll be fine but one you turn it back to cold or hot it’ll go spin way beyond the stopping point. The pressure will cause it to stop, but the power is still there.. causing teeth to break and motors. SO DONT SET YOUR TEMPS BACK AND FORTH TOO QUICKLY. It’ll cause it to over spin when it returns.. causing them to damage. My original motor was good. But popped out of the rails.

Was the rear defrost light on the panel blinking before you diagnosed the problem as the actuator? Mine was blinking and taking about 10-20 seconds before the fan would kick on. Then after a while the heat quit but the fan would still blow. Then the heat came back for a while and left again. I just replaced the control panel and the light is still blinking although I do have heat again... for now. Starting to think it was the actuator all along.

OMG! Thank you thank you. Concise, no silly music - just the facts. I’m a 75 year old retired Hospice nurse and living on SS. I narrowed down this topic to this NoNonsenseKnowHow. I was going to try myself but son came over and did it! Heat - yay!

I'm working on a 2014 Sahara like this... his heater core was clogged ..had the casting sand problem from the engine that some of them had...put a new heater core in it...had burning hot heat for a while...now it's back to not working.... The actuator motor is working perfectly fine... I even pulled the arm and manually selected it...still no heat... both heater lines behind the glove box are around 145-155 degrees...you don't want to touch them they are burning hot... still no heat!!!!!!!!!!. It will get lukewarm a little bit from the vents... put it on defrost...no heat but when you switch it to cold you can tell it gets a little colder.... all that seems to be working......I'm to my wit's end with this pile of f****** junk... I don't know what to do next....?!?!?!?!?!?!????... The s***** thing is it's my landlord's vehicle every time something doesn't go his way when I'm working on it he threatens to throw me out of my home that I've rented from him for eight f****** years and pay rent on time!!!!!!.... Sick of f****** with that piece of garbage..... Anybody have any ideas?????...

My daughter's is hot on passenger side and it gets colder as you go to the driver side and the vent at the window is pretty cold. Syrup smell sometimes when heat blows. 2012 jku

I have a 17 jeep compass. A previous owner (bought from a dealer) took off the actuator and the arm that is on the actuator that operates the blend door. The Chrysler dealer does not sell that part. Does anyone know where to get one? Can someone fabricate the arm? What are the dimensions of the arm (thickness, length, width)? Thanks for your help.

Damn that sucks, I'm surprised you can't get it from the dealer. Unfortunately I can't think of any other good suggestions. Besides maybe a salvage yard . or eBay

I do have a question for you, I found your video well looking for a "how to flush your heater core" video. I also just changed my engine coolant temperature sensor. Should I have had engine coolant spill out of the sensor port when I remove the original. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler rubicons 3.6.

@@richgran I'm not sure I understand your question. Yeah it's normal for some coolant to spill out of the temp sensor port
@richgran
@richgran 3 жыл бұрын
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I figured so, I asked because I didnt get any spillage, but was expecting it to spill out when I removed the sensor. I'll check the fluid level next. Thanks for your reply.

Sometimes it doesn't spill if the system is completely full and the radiator cap is on. That is normal also

Same problem her on my 2012 Rubicon... turned out to be the blend door linkage grease got sticky and it wasn't opening all the way. Cleaned both plastic arms and added a dab of grease. BAM! Fixed!

Great Video. I'll do this to my 2015 Rubicon to eliminate the overheating problem I'm having. The reservoir keeps getting full, so I have to re-fill the radiator (but not losing antifreeze). I hope this solves my problem. Thanks

Thanks! My jeep just went out of heat but my service appt in 2 weeks away but we just got snow in Denver! Your video showed that the replacement is cheaper than my warranties deductible so I’ll do it myself! Thanks so much EDIT: wasn’t my issue. The engine hoses were hot and the dial of heater was communicating with the actuator. I saw the actuator move as it should as I turned the dial. SMH

Hi there, great video. Just one question. At 3:47min you mentioned, that you tested power from the ACU(?). What measuring value you had? Just measured mine and i had some short 2V - 4V "commands" from HVAC. Is this the right value for the activation of the blend door?

(2013 Jeep Wrangler JK) so the problem was the actuator so this video was very helpful! However when I plug the actuator in the arm spins 360 degrees, is there any way to change that? I haven't screwed on the actuator to the frame because I'm afraid the plastics gears will just strip or burn out.
