That tip to jack up the front wheel suspension to fit the control arm into place was a life saver! Thank You !!!!

I was trying this for 4 hours just for 1 step, loose the strut, then I finished in 10 minutes, you’re the GOAT, keep doing this, a mechanic wants to charge me 1,100 usd for that work and I did it only with 150 bucks

TIP: Most of us don't have a lift which makes it a lot easier. When installing the ball joint into the upright, make sure both front wheels are supported off the ground otherwise you will be fighting the sway bar. Also set the steering straight ahead or you will be fighting the steering arm trying to move the upright.

This was great. I'm at the shop working on one of these and this was a nice run down. how are you liking the KOBALT cordless impact? I'm considering purchasing a cordless as I currently have a air one that works amazing
@DCAutoEnhancement2 жыл бұрын
I've been happy with it. I bought the half inch one that came with a battery and charger and then I bought the 3/8" tool only. I can not currently run a air compressor so these were definitely a game changer for me. Thank you for giving your feedback, I appreciate it.

I'm doing this on my 08 Patriot. I am stuck on the bolt that has a captive nut on the inside. I tried to loosen it and it wouldn't budge and now the hex bolt is stripped and the 21mm socket slips once force is applied. What are my options? Appreciate and suggestions
@DCAutoEnhancement11 ай бұрын
That's a tough spot to be in. I don't have any good words of wisdom at this point. Whenever you have a stuck bolt, it's a good idea to heat the bolt with a torch to get it to budge. Hopefully you can find something helpful by googling or youtubing. I wish I could help more.
@ithinkiatecatinchina11 ай бұрын
@@DCAutoEnhancementI'm getting a 21mm bolt extractor socket tomorrow morning and hopefully that works. I have a torch and will heat it up before trying with the extractor socket but where would you suggest I heat it up? Should I heat up around the hex bolt head or should I try and heat up on the other side where the the captive nut is (or both?). I'm really hoping to get it out because I just bought a bunch of pieces for the car and don't want this roadblock :/
@DCAutoEnhancement11 ай бұрын
@@ithinkiatecatinchina heat would be best applied on the captive side if you can get to it.

What is the reason for changing the whole entire Control Arm instead of just new bushings?

So I wish I saw this video b4 i started the job because I'm only halfway done. The issue i have is, on both the OE (I'm assuming) & the new control arm the sway bar links are essentially resting on the control arms. When I google it others have the same issue but nobody posted the fix. Do you know why the sway bar links are hitting the control arms?
@DCAutoEnhancement Жыл бұрын
The only reason I can think of is if the link is broken or the sway bar is not in the correct location

Would I need an alignment after doing this at home?

I would say yes. I believe that alignment adjustments are made using the control arm. However, I'm not an alignment expert.

I’m not sure why I’m having such a pain in the ass time with this. Everytime I get the top of the rear bushing lined the bottom is out of line. Can’t get them both lined together.
@DCAutoEnhancement5 ай бұрын
I don't remember how this went for me but is it possible to use a punch or a screwdriver to hold the top in place and then line up the bottom?
@richardedward8046 Жыл бұрын
Just jack it up from the pinch welds on each side of the Jeep. Note: when removing the lower ball joint, the bolt used to squeeze the knuckle over the ball joint, the bolt is splined, so if you try to spin the bolt off using the bolt side instead of the nut side, you'll probably strip out the splines. With knuckle compressed, you can use an impact or hand ratchet to spin the nut off and tap the bolt out. I highly recommend removing the strut assembly complete from the strut tower as its connected to the anti sway bar and when released, the sway bar link wants to rest on the LCA making it difficult to line up the inner mounting bolts of the LCA. Also tap the trans axle out and use the bolt to pull it back in when reinstalling. Thanks for the video DC!!
