I just did this repair on my 2008 Patriot, It is not an easy task & I consider myself above average when it comes to working on anything mechanical. I do all the work on my 1991 Suzuki GSXR 7/11motorcycle, A 27 Magnum Marine boat & a 2008 BMW M5 V10. The hard part on this fix is that there is little to no clearance to fit the ratchet on the oil switch socket or a 27mm which ever you use. I ended up cutting the oil switch socket a little more than 1/4 inch on the back side to make it shorter and used a low profile socket wrench. Also getting that dam clip off the sensor was in pain in the A## because of the red locking plastic clip that needs to be removed first. You will need patience for this fix. She runs perfect again after the install. i would consider the manifold access as mentioned below if it happens again. 86,000 miles on my Patriot.

Great video... just follow your advise and all went well...for all asking about the pin.... you have to slide the red safety clip toward the front of the vehicle..Once that is done the cable slides out... remember to unplug your battery too. For the pulley I used a serpentine belt tool . Much easier than a ratchet...

Let me start off by saying thank you for this video. This is definitely the way you want to go if you don’t want to take off intake manifold and replace its gasket. With that being said this is a major pain but also not as complex as other repairs. If I were to add a couple things to this tutorial 1 would be to start off in the morning when engine is dead cold 2 be ready for pain😂.

Another complication I had, the threads on the old sensor were slightly tapered at the end, the new sensor was definitely not. I had to thread the sensor in dead on for it to go in, difficult for me in the room available, it took quite a few attempts and some hand cramps before I got it on. You need an angled 360 degree adapter for the socket, there's no room to fit the large sensor socket and ratchet in there between the manifold and sensor

Great Video, could you send link or the description for the socket that you used? Thanks

How far do you thread the new one in? It seems that it is designed to have the red tab on top but if I bottom it out it wont be in that orientation.

Great clip, just having problems taking off the clip from the oil sensor. If you could possibly help with that, your video is A1!

I’m having the same issue. I have large hands and it’s hard to get a good grip on it once I’m in that spot. Been trying to get it in for a good 2 hours. Let me know if there’s a certain thing that helped!
@LehewTech4 жыл бұрын
Do the old and new sensors have the same size threads? You may want to clean the threads in the engine with a rag and put some fresh oil on there. Good luck!
@catarinogonzalez27424 жыл бұрын
@@jaimegonzalez7721 long story short do not go aftermarket, orielly, advance, napa and so so. The threads seem to be somewhat different enough to cause a problem. Go to the dealership for this part or any part for this jeep just trust me I hate it but you will keep you sanity. I have worked on so many cars an been sucessful but this is my mothers jeep an shes been a pain in my ass from the start. I usually go cheap on parts an hardly ever have a issue. Somehow this jeep will only acted right with oem parts I go to thr dealership an its done. I usually pay quadriple what I could get anywhere esle but Im sure this will be your issue also. Compare each sensor look really close there is a slight difference it was machined wrong. The ome starts out slight smaller in gurth an then gets better. The problem seems to be that the aftermaket did not catch that an machined the whole sensor one size to big to start in the hole. I hope you find the helpful. Ps I would like to know if this solves your problem thanks 👍

@@LehewTech I apperciate the quick responce an the video of the process it is fairly simple. I seem to as you stated have a sensor aftermarket not quite machined right going to the dealer for part tomorrow will repond. Thanks again 👍
@LehewTech4 жыл бұрын
Yessir good luck with the repairs! The sensor I installed was aftermarket but I do agree, with many parts it can be best to go with an original dealership part.

For me it wasn’t a code it was just the oil symbol on my dash going off and on every second I got in my car and drove for less than a mile.

Probably bc it’s hard to record footage. The position of the sensor dictates what direction to move it. The pin is either pulled or pushed out. Pull from the end with tab, push from short end. We pushed. Note, does not have to be pushed completely through. We used a flat head screw driver. Also, I ordered an OEM sensor. Took no time for thread to bite. Thanks to the individual that mentioned this prior. I got a part from auto zone for $40, after reading comments on this video I ordered an OEM from eBay. A couple of bucks cheaper oddly. Thanks !
