I second this notion! Big Bend and the surrounding areas have soo much history. Go watch the first half of the trip on this channel to kinda see the ghost town of Terilingua! Make sure you have enough fuel to because there’s like 1 gas station within 100 miles. When you do go, enjoy it to the max!

Y’all had any CV issues? If so, after how many miles do you have to change them if you wheel them like you guys do?
@RenegadeExpedition2 жыл бұрын
Funny you ask. I just got done shooting a video for NTJR (North Texas Jeep Renegades) on how to replace one. Though that was because of a split in the boot due to trail debris. We have bigger lifts but with all of the weight on the Jeeps it’s closer to 2.5”. We haven’t had issues due to the cv angle. However, a couple of close friends of ours have had issues at 3.5”+. -Andy

I happen to enjoy the renegade TH as an overland vehicle. However, if you’re traveling with a family of 3 or larger, it can get pretty tight if you’re going off-grid for multiple days at a time. It’s just my husband and I along with our small dog, but we tend to fill the entire back seat and trunk space with all our gear.

How much air do you take out of your tires when off-roading?

On the renegades, we usually air down 20-25psi depending on terrain. On the Bison and Gladiator 18-22psi.

How difficult was the trail for the Renegades?
@RenegadeExpedition3 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t difficult. There are a few technical spots where a spotter comes in handy but that’s about it.
@renegadelife33303 жыл бұрын
@@RenegadeExpedition thank you for the quick response. Which of the 2 renegades performs better?
@RenegadeExpedition3 жыл бұрын
They each have their strengths. Arctica does a little better at climbing due to the increased torque from the 1.3T and smaller/lighter tires. Athena is a little better/smoother under normal trail conditions due to her suspension and extra sidewall on her tires.
@M1k3y05013 жыл бұрын
Hello. Nice video. I have a question. I know the little creek you crossed all too well as you first turn onto Black Gap rd. I walked through it a few times when our truck batteries died in our 6.6L Duramax. We had to flag down a passerby for a jumpstart. We had the first campsite on the right after that creek. We didn't continue our trip after the battery issue happened. We called that the Desert Oasis. Every living creature came from miles around to get water at sunset, lol. There's also small unmarked cemetery on the top of a hill right there as well. Okay to get to the question. We have just purchased a hard shell popup rooftop tent for our stock 2018 2.4L Trailhawk and we have May reservations for Big Bend. I figured Black Gap would be off our "to-do" list, but after watching this it's got me wondering. We just have the stock Falken HT tires with about 25,000 miles on them that came on the Rene, the factory .9" lift and no rock sliders, and just my wife and I. Do you think some of those more technical areas might be too risky for our set-up? I'm sure there will be plenty of people around since the park has gotten so popular lately.
@RenegadeExpedition3 жыл бұрын
We loved the oasis, it’s so out of place out there. We have buddy that did the trail in a stock 2016 Trailhawk years ago. My only concern is the factory HTs. There are a lot of sharp rocks out there that could easily puncture a side wall on those. Outside of the tire concern, you should be fine as long as you choose your lines carefully. Our buddy when he was out there kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2PNfYWfiL-gbrs
@M1k3y05013 жыл бұрын
@@RenegadeExpedition Thanks for the info! I had a feeling the HT were going to our weak spot on that trail. I guess I just needed to hear it from the pros. Suppose if we did do it and blew out a tire then I have a good case with the better half for upgrading them for prematurely :p Either that or have the new 33" Goodyear Duratracs I just put on my truck moved over to the Trailhawk wheels and get the grinder out, lol
@RenegadeExpedition3 жыл бұрын
@@M1k3y0501 lol, if only it was that easy. I was looking back at Mavis’s video. It looks like they had already upgraded their tires for that trip. They run 225/65/17 BFG KO2s. They fit perfect without upgrading anything.
@M1k3y05013 жыл бұрын
@@RenegadeExpedition haha I know huh? Yeah I did see they had some AT tires I couldn’t pick out exactly what they were but yep that’s what they were. I feel pretty comfortable about most of the other trails out there but Black Gap has me because my friend did it in his H3 Hummer and cautioned me about some of the ruggedness that looked worse in your video than his.
