Jeep Steering box in a '68 Chevelle -Driving Impressions

Beautiful car,I had a 68 in high school in the 90s,never considered replacing the steering box.I did however go to south side machine shop and put lift bars in place of the rear lower control arms,and that alone made a huge difference in the back end popping out sideways.Much more effective than traction or ladder bars. Beautiful car they always looked better then the 69s in the rear.

I’ve got 600 hp and drag radials. My car launches straight and true. Never needed any suspension mods. The stock ss suspension works well.

I did the Jeep Cherokee box conversion on my 72 chevelle using a hood junkyard box.Needed a different rag joint and flare adapters.Difference is night and day!

Bought a new quick ratio box from OPGI for my '87 El Camino but couldn't get used to it. Eventually went back to the 16:1 factory box.

That is a beautiful Chevelle. That's the best color combination and the Weld Pro Stars are nice, Cragar SS would be nice too.

So do you think if the car launches crooked it'll be easier to straighten out ? Did you even try to do a launch ? What if the rear gets light at halftrack and you steer to correct ?
