Jeep TJ/LJ Savvy Transfer Case Shift Cable Installation

In this video we remove the factory transfer case shift linkage and install a savvy cable shifter. We also install a transfer case skid drop kit to help alleviate driveline vibration. Neither project is technically difficult but each presents its own challenges, all discussed in the video.

Thank you for the video. Last week the cable connection got off. I had the mechanic to fix it. Your video helps me to understand where the cable and the connection located. Just in case of emergency I should be able to reconnect the cable if it lost the connection.

@timheffron5849 if you are referring to the transfer case drop kit, the owner of the jeep had put on a lift and it was giving driveline vibrations. the drop kit was a cheap and effective way to solve that quickly until a sye kit could be done

hi! very good to have viewers from so far away! When changing the height of the t case the factory linkage doesnt like to shift nicely. so since we added the drop kit it was a way to keep smooth shifts. i have seen the factory linkage bind up on factory setups also! its all around a good idea, it shifts much better than stock even with no changes to the transfer case height.

I got the Novak. It came with these funky rubber nut sert things for the body mount. I really don’t think they’re sturdy enough to hold that bracket to the tub. I see the savvy came with nuts and bolts. Was there a rubber washer in between the bracket and the tub?

there was no rubber between. it wouldnt be a bad idea to run a small rubber isolator washer in between for corrosion purposes but other than that i see no need for one

I'm installing the savvy cable shift and watched a Novak install by Bleepin Jeep I was thinking it would be better with the rubber isolator but time will tell as I'm literally in the middle of doing it and came here to make sure I was doing it right as they send no instructions which I knew from other threads.

Interesting. Just watched Bleepin jeep install the Novak. Now you say the Savvy cable is better than the Novak. What exactly were the issues the Novak had that were upgraded in the Savvy? I have the Savvy cable added to my Amazon Wish List and I'm ready to buy it.

i have not personally studied the two. But, based on the reputation of the man who redesigned the novak for savvy and the forum reading i have done on the topic, i am under the impression that the savvy is superior. i have no doubt the novak works just fine as well, just to be clear. my experience with the savvy has been nothing but flawless thus far and thats as far as i can say

Why the skid plate drop? Most people want the skid up higher for better ground clearance. I am getting one of these cable linkages soon! Thanks for a great video

The customer didnt want to spend the money for the SYE and new driveshaft. I fully agree with higher skids, on my personal rig i have a full flat skid and its been one of the best mods ive done.

@@ForceBuilt do you have a body lift? you can tuck a little without but it does help with room. Barnes4wd makes a few different skids for varying amounts of tuck. their 2" inch drop skid is 1 inch more clearance over stock and may be a good option regardless of body lift

@@ForceBuilt barnes recommends a body lift for their 2 inch skid. in my experience it is not necessary. barnes also offers a bolt on belly skid which is much smoother than factory if you are looking for a bolt on option

@@torreytrussell1707 yes, front and rear gears need to match. 4.88 is also pretty steep for a d30/d35. you dont have much engagement left on those teeth.
