Jeep Window Regulator Replacement

In this video I will show you how to replace a power window regulator on your Jeep. This process is similar to a manual window crank and similar to other Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee, Comanche, and Wrangler. But today I will show you how to do it on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. Great job. Way to be resourceful. Is this assembly the same for crank windows as well. Wondering if mine just need regressed. They are kinda tight after 25 years. Go figure. Thanks for posting. 👍👍

The assembly should be very similar except it would be crank driven instead of having a motor.

something about these passenger windows on jeeps. my grandmas liberty had the passenger window regulator go out, as well as both of my uncles Grand Cherokee WJ's had the passenger window regulator fail

hey austin thanks for the video. I ordered a new regulator. im trying to install it but the cable keeps on jamming up the window as it rolls up. any ideas on how to fix this?

I would take the regulator out and bench test it, see if it does it out of the vehicle. This way you will be able to easily examine the issue.

Very informative but one question, what if my window doesn’t roll down? How do I change it

Check if power is getting to the regulator first. If it is then you may need to get creative on how to get it down by taking the old one apart with it still in the door.

can you roll down the window from the driver side switch if the passenger switch is disconnected?

I don't think so, power most likely still travels through the switch from the drivers side to roll up/down.

My drivers side regulator is going out. When I till the window all the way up or down it just starts clicking non stop. Would you be willing to sell me the good one you have?

I used the tube sheathing off the driver side one to use on my passenger since it was broken. So it's not 100% complete.

Manual window regulator is MUCH different than electric. Totally different system, huge PITA.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. My driver's side manual crank cable is broken and wondered if there was a source for that?

@@jamesshell8457 As far as I know, there is no one making new ones. Your only option is to find a good used one. The drivers side is the hardest to find, and the most expensive. Changing it involves drilling out rivets, unbolting the mechanism and working the boomerang shaped channel out of the door. If it is just hard to crank, sometimes you can spray WD40 into the track from the back side to loosen it up.. If it is broken you might want to think about converting that side to electric.

No clicking for me, just fails to roll UP on the passenger side. Does anyone know what the issue might be/what to rule out in that scenario?

I would jump the regulator straight from the plug with either a drill battery or 12 volt power source, that will rule out if there is a wiring issue, if the window still does not go up.

@@OutJeeping shaved off some insulation on the wire and ground wire, jumped em and it zipped right up. So does that tell us that there IS a wiring issue between switch and regulator? Thanks

You might need to cut the cable in the plastic sheath on the old regulator and force the window down by hand.
