Window Lock Switch Bypass | Jeep Cherokee XJ

In this video I will show you how to bypass a window lock switch on your Jeep. This process is similar on other Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee. But today I will show you how to do it on a 1997-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Today I will show you how to do the whole job from start to finish. my 2001 jeep Cherokee classic electric window s stopped working - I replaced all switches but, only the driver switch will work for all windows now - any ideas as to why ?

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic that I just purchased a week ago. The windows only worked from the master switch. I watched your video and bypassed the window lock switch as per your directions in the video. They all work perfectly now. Thank you.

I found the problem with mine FYI 99 jeep Cherokee There is a computer board in the ceiling light the wires leading to it where rubbed through to expose copper to the metal roof grounding it out so it also messed up the board but once I removed the board and repaired the wires the locks work fine no longer have a mind of there own and yes I know the board is for the remote control fob I can manage to lock my doors and unlock with the key

Could you also have instead of cutting the wires; just shaved some insulation off the tan and yellow wire then solder them both together and tape it.

What would cause both windows on the driver side to work but both windows on the passenger side to not work? They wont go down at all from the drivers switch or any of the passenger ones

Check for broken wires in the door jamb wire harness boot on the passenger side doors. It's a common failure point on Jeeps.

Thanks. nice video. However I was not as lucky. I bought a NEW master switch for my 1998 Jeep CJ and the driver door window still would not work. I did the tan to yellow wire splice (not ready for solder) and still it did not fix driver window. Anyone have another idea? Thanks

It might be a bad window regulator or a broken wire in the door jam harness.

Well I had the window lock button on so when I pressed it the window works. I felt so stupid didn't know of a window lock.

Can you bypass a single passenger rear door lock on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and still use the power lock button.

You could but you would need to cut a wire leading to that door or have the child lock on but that only prevents the inside from staying locked.

I know this is a bit old but I have a Jeep Cherokee 99 and the switches are always on... my battery every time I don’t drive it everyday.. I’m curious if that may be the reason? Also only the divers side window rolls down with the switch, the other ones won’t roll down on their side I have to do it all by the drivers side. Someone please help !

@@cadilakisrodcustom so for the batter I figured out that when I turn the Jeep off you have to turn it all the way then turn it up . If you turn it all the way when you turn it off check and see if the sides for the lock and window roll down, turn green. If they light up that was my issue. It was still on even though the car was off so you have to turn it up, the lights go off.

What if all the rest of my windows work and the only one not working is the passenger window switch? But the little led is on? And when I roll it down from the driver side and click the passenger side window switch it stops the window? I'm confused what to do

It could possibly be a broken wire in the door jamb of that door.

@@OutJeeping so get this I pulled my passenger door panel off and all the wires are good. My light on the door lock switch illuminates but the one for the window doesn't? Odd part is if you roll the window down from the driver side, while rolling it down click the passenger button it stops it till you release the passenger button. But yet you can't make it go up or down from the passenger button😑 I'm so twisted on this lol

Yes you can but I personally don't like them because I have seen them many times fail from water exposure.

The video playback of welding is not actually harmful, a monitor does not get anywhere near as bright as what it is in person.
