For the most part, the only effective way to run really big and wide tires on a Jeep JK Wrangler is to have them mounted on wheels with very little back spacing. Of course, it's practically a necessity when you're running something like an EVO Double Throw Down coil over system and while they may get the job done, they're far from a perfect solution and not without their consequences. Certainly, the more you offset the center line of your wheels, the more stress you put on things like your ball joints, wheel bearings and even tie-rod and this is to say nothing about how they'll effect your ability to steer. It's because of these issues that Dynatrac decided to challenge what we've all come to accept as normal and design a better solution using their awesome XD60 front axle. As luck would have it, Cindy and I would get a chance to help them out and with the assistance of Rubicat.
In this video, you'll get a detailed look at the design, development and building of a 72.5" Dynatrac XD60 front axle complete with PRO 1550 steering knuckles, setup to be run with an EVO DTD coil over system and optimized for Trail Ready beadlock wheels that have 5.5" of back spacing. We hope that you'll find this video to be useful, educational and that you enjoy our presentation.

Not only are your vids (especially the dynatrac vids) super helpful in explaining all the cool tech that goes into products you use, but your vids in my opinion are incredible sales tools for the companies you represent. Because of your videos especially, and because of Dynatrac's relationship with you and other popular youtubers, the liklihood I'll buy Dynatrac's when I upgrade to 60's is like 98%. I don't know how much the companies you represent in you videos appreciate what you do for them with your excellent productions, but I can pretty much guarantee they've seen a bump in sales just because of the work you do. I am so appreciative of the depth in your content when it comes to upgrade products. Hats off, brother. Thank you!

Thank you Paul, we really do appreciate you saying as much. If you do decide to get one of these axles, we'd be super grateful if you could please let them know that you watched and enjoyed our videos. The only way they know we're of help to them is through people like you :) I should note that we are currently testing out Dana UD60s on our Gladiator and hope to do similar videos to this in the near future.

Direct access to some of the manufacturing insight being applied is great. Appreciate the effort put into this. The scrub radius and related reduction in turn radius is something that's gnawed at me as I contemplate lifts and wheels. One of the features I love about my stock JK is the turn radius. Of course, anything after a Suburban has a great turn radius...but still!

One point not raised in regards to scrub radius that presents a huge advantage in how the car drives as well driver comfort, something that particularly struck me as the reason I would want a setup that improved scrub radius numbers is that of steering wheel feedback, if you hit a bump with one tire, or one tire first with poor scrub radius you get a tremendous amount of feedback through the steering wheel, even with powersteering but much worse without, with poor scrub radius and large hits the steering wheel will literally rip your hand as the leverage caused by that poor scrub radius acts on your king pin. Even on smooth surfaces you will get increased steering wheel feedback from warped disk brake rotors or unbalanced tires. The comfort to be gained by improving steering geometry cannot be overstated. This will be a far more comfortable ride with a better scrub radius both onroad and off.

Question: With the 5.5" backspacing it looks like your hub is extending outside the beadlock ring. Is that the stub hub kit? Is the hub as vulnerable as it looks?

Phenomenal piece of engineering. I feel bad for Moby...being set to the side and treated like the middle daughter. Well great video as always and looking forward to seeing a good in depth video of normal driving around town and of course on the trail. Your videos just keep my blood flowing for my own JK one day. I'm about 2 yrs from my JK but I'm saving my $$$$$ and doing my research especially for how I want my rig to look. Thanks again for a great video and with any luck we might see each other on the trail one day. :)

With all that engineering why not go with a 14 bolt ? My 14 bolt has custom cut , reverse cut gears Tru track and 2 1/2 ton Rockwell hubs and disk breaks . It is a fantastic axle . But with your engineering it could be a 100 times better . You guys are awesome . Ever think about Rockwell f 106 ? Why Dana ? I am not criticizing just curious .

A double throwdown will allow you to drive hard and fast across the desert as they'll do a great job soaking up big hits. If all you ever do is go crawling, they are total overkill.

My prorock 60 still works fine. My question would be, is Dynatrac considering building standard Prorock 60 steering knuckles out of the new materials to help lighten the weight and improve the strength? Or would in not be considered cost effective?

Actually, they no longer make and use the aluminum knuckles that you see in this video and being that they were breaking. The XD60 now comes with iron knuckles and truth be told, are way heavier.
