i already changed the temp gauge sensor but the gauge gives me a steady temp of 3/4 of the meter, so i dont know if thats a bad reading or the actual temp of my engine, i've got a 90YJ 4.0

Those temp sensors are soft and will break off easy. I recommend going a few turns and looking at the progress. They are easy to get back out if they break off But have to buy another..lol To test. They should be at 24 ohms.

I have a 92 YJ but the sender unit that screws into head is different. The sender has a little horizontal hole and the plug itself has a thin metal rectangular piece that plugs right into the hole in the switch. I need to replace it but cannot find this part for the life of me. I see the one you have is widely accesible but if I was to get it I’m not sure how I would plug the wire onto it because my cennector is different. Please help!

I solved the issue by getting the pigtail part of the sender from an XJ of the same year. And purchased the part that screws into the engine.

I blew the radiator a few months ago. I did replace it.. I am guilty of neglect. It just kept goen till I got home, miss fireing and all, and when I slamed the driver door , getting out of the car, ka-blewey, the passenger side of the radiator blew all the water/coolant right on the floor. 6 inch crack. So; no Teflon tape. I never knew that. how on earth did you ever learn that. I got a 92. Great car. the gauge goes up, now, to read 160ish and then goes right back down to the 150's. Ya you can freaking see it do it. Every time. I was thinking of replacing the forward temp sensor, for rich fuel concerns, but then I said, Why? The car actually waited till i got it in the garage to blow up. But, the electric fan works but never comes on. Original thermostat, calcium build up some. I cleaned it but didn't clean the the temp sensor to clean metal. I am guilty of neglect. The coolant is not free from brown, but sense it blewup, its better then it was. It may be the rely, its stuck and scared to get it out.

Temp Guage fluctuating between 160 all the way to 210. Changed out water pump, radiator, thermostat. Any suggestions on what else could be causing it?

I have traded out my temperature sending sensor and my temperature gauge and I still have a zero reading. I have grounded the wire and the meter will peg. Wondering what’s going on? Also I noticed your gas gauge didn’t bounce around a whole lot, mine bounces around like crazy, am I missing something in the gas sending unit that would cause all that bouncing around down? Great videos, I have watched probably more of your videos than anyone else’s for my 89YJ help! Thank you brother.

Hey Chuck, Just got a 2004, 4.0l. Temp sensor is at 210 then creeps to 260. Check gauge light comes on and then it falls back to 210. What’s your diagnosis? Thanks

Silly question, Chuck. I took the dash apart about a month ago to deep clean the dust, etc. I bent my temp sensor needle. Would bending the needle slightly cause the temp sensor not to work? I may have a bad sensor - didn't notice what it was reading before I "cleaned" the gauge cluster. Anywho, I have the 4.2L 258 in my '90 YJ, so I'll start with the sensor and go from there, just thought I'd ask you opinion on the needle. Thanks! Great videos, as always, sir!

Mine goes up to almost 200 and then it drops real fast to like 130 then it slowly goes back up to 200 and then drops fast to 130 over and over. And sometimes at idle it just sits around 155 or so
@skepticcoach5960

That's your thermostat opening and closing. It's made to pop open when it hits a certain temp to cycle the coolant through your engine. Then when it cools down enough the thermostat pops back closed and stops the coolant from flowing through again. 130 is pretty low. You might need to replace the thermostat, or you might have some air trapped in your system. Try parking with the nose of your jeep going uphill after getting the engine warm. Turn the heater on too (it's in the same system) and it can burp air bubbles out of the system. Squeezing the hoses can help too.

Just go to the autoparts store and ask for the sensor. Be sure to tell them its a gauge and not a dash light.

Recently i put in a mishimoto aluminum rad, mishimoto electric fan, and 175 tstat, And after i watched your video i can defiantly confirm it runs richer . Not much to complain about since the 4.0s were programmed lean AND it doesn't change the performance drastically , but he is correct .
@Poweraddicts
@Poweraddicts 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct, it doesn't change the performance much. Its mostly about the economy. It uses more fuel and if its running too rich it can slowly foul out the plugs. Are you having good performance from that brand radiator/fan combo?
@redsnowdue
@redsnowdue 4 жыл бұрын
@@Poweraddicts Yeah! I live in the high dessert where 110 F is a cool day in the summer . Have yet to see the temp rise above 200 (with a temp gun and gauge on the dash) . The fan also does a good job of keeping everything cool at idle or moving slow with fast rpms in 4LOW.

@@Poweraddicts Also a side comment on the first comment i made. Today i replaced the o2 sensor with one of boches OE "Premium" sensors and it has since fixed the running overly rich part . Still rich, but not as much and DEFIENTLY more pep to her . Like white smoke the 33's kinda pep . That's considering the fact that my YJ's only got 59,000 original miles!
