Jerry was a Vietnam Vet. Was in real war. he was a true warrior. mentally he understood the depth of philosophy in jkd. To be honest the philosophy transcends jkd. the philosophy of jkd comes from the awareness of other great minds of war and philosphy. He was knowledgable of movement in fighting. master lee taught him alot. If u where lucky to train under him u would see why black belt magazine said he is the greatest jkd teacher in the world.

Like you do with anything else. A basketball player practices for real games by shooting baskets during practice to improve accuracy. There's no way to simulate the real thing under any circumstances, but that doesn't mean practice doesn't help. The whole point of practice is to prepare for a real situation in a no-risk setting.

JKD is more of a philosophy on fighting, rather than a style. It doesn't look anything like what Bruce did in the movies, nor should it really have fighting sets. It basically means to use what works best for you and apply the good moves into your knowledge, which all and all turns out to be MMA.

@Timonsaylor

It's not, but claiming "Bruce Lee fans" get their opinions based on the movies is one of the biggest strawmen I've ever seen
@PrivateEyeYiYi
@PrivateEyeYiYi 9 жыл бұрын
Timonsaylor Then where DO they get their opinions, if not from his movies? There's a few books he wrote, some interviews. demos he put on, some stories that were told by different people. Really, there's not much more than that, unless I'm leaving something out.
@Timonsaylor
@Timonsaylor 9 жыл бұрын
PrivateEyeYiYi most of it from what I understand is from demos and stories from people who knew him. I'm not a diehard fan, and in fact I think he was a giant douche (based on the accounts ive heard), but as a martial artist and as an athlete, he displayed a hell of a lot of promise during his time. Two finger pushups among other displays of strength weren't exactly anything to sneeze at. The way he moved in demos and training was also very impressive for a man his size. You can't just dismiss these things as "lol he was an actor." There isn't much to go on, but what we have is pretty convincing
@PrivateEyeYiYi
@PrivateEyeYiYi 9 жыл бұрын
Timonsaylor I'm not saying that he was "just" an actor, but that his reputation as a fighter is questionable because it's based on anecdotal accounts. I have no doubt he was a great athelete. One would have to be to do two finger pushups (in fact I think he did one finger pushups). But while this is an exceptional ability, he is by no means the only person to do that. Other actors are equally remarkable performers on screen and are arguably as physically talented: Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Van Damme, among others. Heck, a credible argument can even be made for Mickey Rourke, since he actually gets into a ring and goes tot to toe with other boxers. Not that Rourke is more than a middling boxer, but we only have stories of Bruce Lee actually facing opponents. Finally, there's the belief that Bruce Lee was the greatest martial artist ever, in or out of films because of something called a "one inch punch" I won't even try to disprove that because it's just ridiculous. Is BL in the upper tier of martial artists? Sure, but he's not the only one, or even the best there has even been.
@Timonsaylor
@Timonsaylor 9 жыл бұрын
PrivateEyeYiYi I agree with pretty much all of this. It's reasonable. The one inch punch has more merit than I think you see it as, and I'll explain in depth later tonight

MMA does NOT refer to sports. It can, but that is not its only term. It can be somewhat called a "style" since it's a blend of usually choosing two styles or more, one ground and one stand up. Whichever best fit the person. Pretty much like what Bruce's philosphy was.

unpredictability is what causes the startle reaction, broken rythem is tryimg no to repeat the patterns of attack or defense, I think bruce was the best of his time because he was real the fight sequences were the most realistic in comparison with the rest, there is no martial arts fight that is more beautiful than the one with Bruce and Chuck norris only someone with true skill could pull that off. thats what made him famous

Bruce had been trained in judo from his very first student Jesse Glover, there was even a fight between bruce and a judoka the man was also a karateka. witnesses have stated the fight lasted in the area of of 10 to 11 the guy through all types of strkes all of them were deflected by bruce the guy attempted to use judo on him but bruce lee deflected in that 10 or so seconds bruce had thrown around 15 punches and 1 kick

Jeet Kun Do is simple easy and direct. My friends a lot of them white don't get it but I'm generous. I like to help people. JKD is about being fit. It is reflex strength and everything. If you're not fit get fit. In JKD there's no right way to fight. You can engage or wait. 1) If an opponent attacks be like water and go for the path of lease resistance. Avoid the strong. 2) If an opponent doesn't attack then you harass. 3) If an opponent engage then you finish him up with everything you've got.

Lee did take a aspirin/meprobromate for a headache. The Headache could have been caused by the Brain edema that is listed as the cause of death. What caused the edema is a mystery. As to meprobromate: symptoms of overdose include: drowsiness, sluggishness, unresponsiveness, or coma; loss of muscle control; severe impairment or cessation of breathing; or shock. But Bruce Lee didn't OD on the drug. Nor was the Cannabis found in his stomach more than what would be found in a cup of tea.

broken rythmn is just been unpredictible..usually as fighters we tend to have "favorite" combinations that we repeat a couple of times in the fight.. broken rythem is mixing up the blocks and feints ect. diferently to confuse the oponent..something important is keep it simple...someone who has sort of a broken rythnm is "keith jardine" he is known for trowing punches from the "wrong stance" but it is very effective for him in the fights.

Actually there's Wing Chun in the Jeet Kune Do curriculum and there IS an official curriculum. First start with a structure, and then blending follows. Not just any sort of messy thing you want to do and that will work. Guro Inosanto and JKD are composed of modified Wing Chung as they worked with Francis Fong in that time period and up to today.

Smart comment: Tae Kwon Do for example is treated as a sport when it originally was designed for fighting soldiers on horseback. Some fighting arts shouldn't even be put up against each other in UFC. In UFC conditions, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the grappling martial arts will almost always come out winning. While in plain street fighting, or war, it may be others, such as JKD.

I agree mate, Thai boxing agrees too. If some other art can show thai boxing something that works better when it comes to striking then they'll DO it. Because for thai boxers in thailand its not a fucking art. its not about egos and being fancy or a big name. Its a LIVING. They fight for MONEY so that they don't starve. If they could use something that would work better and give them an advantage then they WOULD.

I agree when I train mma, most people can easily dodge a muay thai round house (although its my fave kick still :D), but the karate/tae kwan do based kicks we learn catch much easier, but do MUCH less damadge its all about the practioner, and clinch + shin kicks are probably incoperated into all styles now, or at least learn the defences against them. for example in my wing chun we learn how to easily get out of clinches and of course the basic thai block where you raise your leg

Broken Rythmn is much much more than unpredictability. It is the essence of creating a creating a startle reaction in the opponent. Broken Rythmn and Angular Attack are two similar but different concepts. The Joe Lewis tapes are definitive on this subject. Joe Lewis actually is what all of these "fans" of Bruce Lee think Lee was. Unfortunately - the wasn't the first "movie" martial artist and he wasn't the best. There were many others in the Hong Kong Cinema before them. Tufr

you are an idiot. here is an MMA Vale Tudo match (With Out rules) that wanderlei silva fought in /watch?v=ZsjwqxjpDoo there you see him fighting in a no rule competition exactly like he fights in the UFC and Pride, except he threw some headbutts. funny, fights in Vale Tudo matches were pretty much identical to more heavily ruled matches, the top no rule fighters became the top MMA fighters and vice versa, Why because its as close as it comes. When Bruce lee was teaching Wing Chung to westerners the Chinese martial arts community was outrageous, and a fight between Bruce lee and some Chinese martial artist was scheduled, they were to fight for Bruce lee´s right to teach. it took Bruce around 3 minuets to get the chump to the ground and surrender, and Bruce later stated that his training in wing chung did not prepare him for a fight, later on he sort of abandoned wing chung and got heavily into western boxing, mainly because boxing works.

I agree about the seizure other info, however people do die from pain killer allergic reactions Adverse reactions to prescription and over-the-counter medicines kill more than 100,000 Americans and seriously injure an additional 2.1 million annually. These reactions to medicine (not including errors in prescribing or mixing medicines with booze) would be rated as 6th highest cause of death in the US.
