Jeff Beck arrived at our school aged 14, - a year older than us. His Ma wanted him back at school. He was older, and so we were all in awe because of this. He automatically was the leader. One day he walked in during the break in the middle of the day we were waiting for the school bell to go for the next session after morning break. He went straight to the back of the room and sat down on the floor of the open store room with a bunch of paraphernalia, such as wires and bits of wood. The boys he knew the best, were at the back of the room next to him and they relayed to the rest of us that Jeff was trying to make a guitar. Guitars were very expensive, especially electric ones. I thought to myself,- no way is Jeff going to make that into a guitar!! I was correct but in spite of everything a few blues notes came out of the cupboard. Miniature radios, as far as I know had not been invented yet, so I have no idea how Jeff made those noises. However, of course we all know now that Jeff became a very successful and talented guitarist all around the world even South America, Japan where he was well known and successful. My favourite music from him is with Jennifer Batten, with his favourite keyboardist and drummer. I found out later that his Mum- was a trained concert pianist and his Uncle and Dad were fond of jazz, and so he heard the best Jazz. and all this would have gone into his musical memory and had a big influence on his music! That was why he was so able! Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

Jeff Beck walked into our classroom late in the year aged a year older than the rest of us at Sutton East in the late 1950s. He was 14 years old and most of us were 13 years old. The teacher was not there yet. We were all curious and watching. The girls were sat in a bunch. One of my best friends was Eunice Mildenhall and the other was Laura Mailer. We were all watching what would happen. Nothing much happened that day but the next time Jeff walked in, with a bunch of stuff, right to the back of the classroom where the storeroom door was open, and he sat on the floor. The boys he got on best with were up there at the back and they relayed the information that Jeff was trying to make a guitar! I could see that there was no way he could make a sound with what he had. As far as I know miniature radios were not in existence at that time in 1958 to 9, but after a time a few notes of the blues came from that room. I was astonished. How did that happen?? Later on he came with us to Carshalton by bus to walk in the woods and make pen and ink drawings of the trees. This was late in the year and we did not see him again except at the bus stop with his other guitar friends We all must have tried to keep up to date with what Jeff was doing, and eventually "Hi-Ho Silver Lining" appeared on record. Jeff had joined the Yardbirds and was making proper music. His mother was a pianist and he had an Uncle who played jazz on the piano as my mother did professionally, so I understood what he was about. Then the Yardbirds came into existence. He was always the best guitarist apart from Jimmy Page. I was sad when he passed in just such a silly way-- a completely unnecessary way and such a waste of a talented human being. I mourned him just as all my classmates at Sutton East would have done. I re-discovered him when he joined a Group in America. In a way Jeff was punishing GB, for not investing more in his type of music. Now I listen on You-Tube. He was much loved in America and Japan, and made some wonderful music with Randy Hope Davies and Jennifer Batten in those countries! We can still listen here thank goodness! Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

I was at this show. One of the first shows I went to. I hadn't gotten Guitar Shop yet, I was only 16 years old, and didn't have much money to buy music, so I was hearing most of this music cold for the first time. I only wish I had known to wear earplugs, as I think this show was where I first realized that earplugs somehow eliminate a lot of the distortion that makes hearing the music properly difficult (especially in a big venue like this one).

Here The Guitarist Jeff Beck, is the lover and his guitar is the symbol of the woman, as he dances around the stage with her. He actually seems to dance as he moves about. The guitar has the form of a woman and he creates music and the woman, in performing this dance! The harmonies are serious ones and the tunes are poignant! They pull at our senses! The back ground of Jeff Beck was serious piano playing mother with her serious music which was bound to have an influence of Jeff,. and an uncle who played jazz. This is almost like an Orchestral piece! It show the influence of his background. Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

I saw/ heard this tour with Stevie Ray Vaughn at the Oakland Coliseum. Jeff uses his fingers and thumb instead of a pick. Finessing the strings, along with the tremolo bar and volume control. With incredible dexterity in his left hand, and knowledge of scales and chords, and harmonics. As Eric Clapton said, he "pulls the notes" out of the guitar 🎸. Amazing master of music 🎶 🙌 ❤ Thank you Jeff for many inspiring years, of love, joy and ecstasy!

Saw this Tour in Edinburgh. "Guitar Shop" was a good album. Bozzio was a Monster~ wish the Camera was on him more, he was the most fun to watch. Skinny Goth Boy with a completely Black Kit, Cymbals and all. Two China's so high he had to stand up to hit them. Pity we can't see much of that here. Still cool though.🎼🎵🎶🥁🎶🎸🎵🎶🎹🎶

Very difficult to play first guitar for so long, and very exhausting. I loved this group Beck, Bozzio, Hymas and Appice. Wonderful harmonies. Cynthia Allen-McLaglen
