Not really.. A lot of people are still super good at stuff till almost 100. Jeff stayed off the hard stuff, was a vegetarian, worked on cars a lot to stay strong, did what he liked to do. That makes an incredible difference, if you get to do what you want most of the time. I saw videos the first woman commercially successful pro drummer in the US, Viola Smith. She has videos from 1939 till fairly recently. I saw interviews with her at age 103 and her mind was still super sharp, she told tons of cool stories and still played drums some.. never retired. Finally passed like in 2019 or so. Think of all those that never got famous that are still jamming in older age! So yes, good health can go a long way.

He didn’t have kids to distract him. His wife didn’t seem too clingy. He could dedicate himself to his two main interests, playing guitar and working on his cars. All these things were to his advantage. He did things right. He seemed healthy…

The Master, still at the top of his game at 78 years of age. Many people of that vintage would be all crippled up with arthritis or some other debilitating condition, I believe Mr. Beck took good care of himself, never heard much about him abusing drugs or booze, cars being his other outlet. Finally felled by meningitis, this world is so unfair. Thanks for posting this now monumental footage.

I saw an interview he did, a few years ago, where he said he practiced EVERY DAY… an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening… and he was always looking for something new. He knew if he didn’t, he would lose his edge… That’s WHY he was so astounding at 78! What a loss…🖤💔🖤

Saw him at the Greek theatre on UC Berkeley campus in '75, at the Orpheum in 2K, Luther Burbank Ctr. in 2002 Always better, more amazing, I really miss him, too!@@jfson4321

First time I saw him was with Bozzio and Pino Palladino and I think his tinnitus was really bothering him but he was still great. Second time, I saw him in a grand old theater and he brought Beth Hart out to sing "Ain't Superstitious" and she just tore it up. Beck was even better when he had a strong singer to play off of. I also got stuck in traffic next to Jeff one fine California summer day. He and his drummer Simon were racing in their 32 Fords. Once traffic stopped I worked my way up next to him and said "hey, Jeff!" He looked at me and I said "You are fucking great, man!" He smiled and gave me a thumbs up.

@@wishiwasthere Mick is a very weak singer, small voice. The Stones just play super loud, at least they used to, so you cannot tell. I could think of so many so much better than Mick! He is a good showman, and an amazing business man. Mick is probably one of the best business men in music. How about Imelda May, Danielle Nicole, and Amanda Fish for starters, if you want big powerful voices and great singers?

I don't disagree. I had just seen Jeff and Mick in a video recently. Maybe the energy of Mick was matched by the talent if Jeff Beck. I guess all I'm saying is that I agree this last performance was great but would have been phenomenal had Jeff been joined by an equally talented group onstage.

@@samgibson684That would be "stagecraft" . Stage management concerns things such as where props are placed, where the actors enter the stage, lighting, special effects etc.

I learned how to bend properly studying 'Cause we've ended as lovers' off of Blow By Blow as a young teenager. His music influenced me so greatly, I doubt I would've kept guitar as a life long passion without his music.

Much respect for Jeff for giving the gals a chance to rock; two here in this band, and Aussie bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld, are prime examples.

It seems like there's been a frizzy/curly headed guitar or bass player with him for years- she seemed really quite a few years back, and I always wondered if she wS his daughter or someone related to him. Do you know who I'm talking about?

I share the sentiments of all here. As I have said in other comments, Jeff is the greatest guitarist of my generation. I'm 71 and studied many of the greatest guitarists over the past 60 years. So I have the credentials to unequivocally state as fact that "Jeff is the greatest guitarist of my generation." I'm listening as I write, Jeff is doing it again. He is blowing my freaking mind. DO YOU HEAR IT?

This show was on the same day as my BD . I've listened to a lot of his music over the years . I noticed there was something nor quite right with what I heard. Seemed like he was off his game , so to speak. Please don't get me wrong , I love his music.
