HIs father, Tim Buckley died at 28 years old. He was a singer songwriter. Jeff Buckley drowned in The Mississippi at the age of 31 in 1997. HIs voice is astounding. (Don't know how you don't have more subs. You are smart, musically knowledgable and you aren't going for cheap clicks.)

One of the most brutal yet amazing lyrics of all time, Kiss me out of desire, baby, not consolation. Damn. The man could write heartbreak like few others.

Many of Jeff’s songs deal with those tough breakups or missed connections where it’s no one’s fault...and those often hurt more and linger on folks’ minds for a long time. Love your reviews.

Great reaction, always appreciate your insights and the things you notice 🎵 This is as close to a hit as Jeff Buckley had (other than the fact that his cover of Hallelujah is well known), I remember it being played on modern rock radio back around like 1995, I was 15. The whole album Grace is really wonderful. Don't know if I already suggested it to you, but you should do some Elliott Smith, he's my favorite 💙

Jeff was obsessed with Led Zeppelin, so it's probably no coincidence that you can hear that in the riff. They also ended up being huge fans of his.

You made my day with this reaction. I appreciate YOUR appreciation of Jeff. I stumbled across the Grace album way back in 2000 when I was a senior in college, and I was blown away on all fronts. Jeff's voice tends to eclipse his virtuoso guitar work and songwriting. What a convergence. Excellent review ❤️

Thought maybe you heard a bit of Traveling Riverside Blues by Zep in the beginning. Thank you for your thoughtful review of an amazing artist. Begs the question of if we could listen to the world’s musical output and seek to enjoy and understand it, couldn’t we perhaps get along a bit better.

Know most are hearing "When the Levee Breaks" as that paired up intro, but I TOTALLY get "Travelling Riverside Blues" with that slide guitar. Still... Jeff deserves the attention. I mean, that damn near flawless 4 octave vocal range... Glad we at least have this album to fall back on and what a terrible loss.

Hello, don't take me wrong when I say this but don't forget about 'Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk' double album that came out in 1998. It was a compilation overseen by his mother, Mary Guibert & Chris Cornell. It was many polished studio tracks and demos recorded. There are many amazing songs on this double album. My favorites are The Sky Is a Landfill", "Everybody Here Wants You” and "New Year's Prayer" which shows the influence of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Pakistani vocalist, musician of Sufi music),on his approach here. Jeff’s influences were all over the map (the way it should be). As Jay said Nina Simone was a big influence, Led Zep, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,Tricky, Queen, Cocteau Twins, Miles Davis, Coltrane, lots of Jazz & Blues (which pleases me, I'm a Jazz junkie). Check out his webpage you can see Jeff's record collection and how broad it was. www.jeffbuckleycollection.com/ Take care and all the best to the Visionaries here!

Jeff covered Lilac Wine and The Other Woman, both of which were popularized by Nina Simone. “Jeff Buckley’s Lilac Wine is the most beautiful thing ever recorded...” -Adam Levine, singer from Maroon 5: mobile.twitter.com/adamlevine/status/390971104111517696?lang=en Would the Led Zeppelin song that the intro reminded you of happen to be Hats Off To (Roy) Harper (the final track on Led Zeppelin III)? Jimmy Page uses a slide guitar throughout that song. The only other songs that I could think of are In My Time Of Dying or Travelling Riverside Blues. As for the strings in Last Goodbye, they were played by a real orchestra. Jeff actually surprised the string arranger on the Grace album, Karl Berger, when he wrote some of the string parts, himself. Karl looked at what Jeff had written, and said in his German action, “I think this will work.” Few knew, at the time, that Jeff knew music theory and could write sheet music. You mentioned how Jeff has a jazzy voice. On that note, you must listen to the following song; it is the epitome of that sentiment. I make no exaggeration when I say that this song is the most incredibly and impressive live, solo performance of any song ever recorded. It testifies to this Brad Pitt quote about Jeff: “He’s Page and Plant in one, on a technical level; it’s mind-blowing.” *Jeff Buckley - The Way Young Lovers Do (Live at Sin-e, New York, NY - July/August 1993):* kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYHVmph6gqdokNU Speaking of Layne Staley: I spoke with Jeff’s best friend, and lead singer of the band, Fishbone, Chris Dowd, a little over a year ago, and we were discussing Dimebag Darrell and Pantera. Somehow our conversation shifted to Jeff and Layne. Chris told me that he, Jeff and Layne actually played When The Levee Breaks, together, on the same stage in New York, circa 1993. I believe that Jeff played the drums, and Layne sang. Chris said that Layne “loved” Jeff.

Love the review. Speaking of sad irony - the last lyric on the last song on the album is "Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over." 3 years later he would drown in the Mississippi. What a loss. Glad he left the music behind.

Buckley was strongly influenced by Led Zeppelin, both Page & Plant, without a mistake. :) Good ears.:) Also that string part, there's an indie vibe in it, right? :) Well, all courtesy to L.Z... :) His dad Tim was a big artist of the 70`s - the two of them were spitting images of themselves!:) Both vocally and physically - amazing. :) Unfortunately, they both died young and in a similarly tragic way..:( But, Tim has one timeless hit that you should def. react to, it`s a must-hear... So passionate, longing song called - "Song to the Siren"...:) Surprise us... We somehow owe it to him.;) As for Jeff, here`s a funny trivia: the whole album called "Grace", from which this song comes, was entirely produced by a producer of Faith No More`s "King for a Day..." album, Andy Wallace.:)) Did you know this guy produced Run DMC / Aerosmith hit `Walk this way`? ...Yeah, yeah..:) So, it's no wonder that the drums on both albums are so funky and groovy and loud, right?:)) Bass-lines too - one master-ears behind 2 great pieces.;) I do not complain about your lyrical analysis either. :) The song is fantastic - both musically and lyrically! :)) SO ... EMOTIONAL!:) I feel the ambiguous vibrations that come from it ...No, it`s not his last song - it actually started his career.:) You know that saying: hope dies last? That`s the ambivalence of this song.:) The main tittle suggests it`s a departure, but the lyrics themselves elaborates a love re-connection, so that the meaning of the tittle becomes irrelevant and surpassed in love magic... Did you feel that too? :) Now, J, my man, I have an interesting suggestion for you. There`s a strange person widely known in the world of electronic music. She`s somehow popular now and the most bizarre thing is that she is actually a fiancée of that famous billionaire Elon Musk ! :)) Could you blame her for that?! She has talent...Her stage name is Grimes.... I want you to react on her mega-hit called "Realiti". She is self-taught keyboardist, producer of her own stuff and a singer. This song has two versions on YT: one is a video version, but the sound is really its demo ; the second version is from the album , no video was made for it, the sound is a little richer, but a video version is somehow deeper, more emotional, and of course vivid, showing her tour in the Far East as well as herself in a sweet and silly manner. :) I would like you to react to the video version, is it cool? The reason why I chose this song among others is firstly its exceptional beauty :) ...and secondly, which is somehow strange, but also intriguing for `reactors themselves`....Of all her songs - NO ONE has ever reacted to this song yet, even though it`s a huge hit! I don`t know if it`s a matter of legal right to that, I guess it could be... I actually lied, I know 1 person who reacted to that, on my request... The time passes - I`ve watched this reaction over and over again and then.... this person's channel suddenly becomes canceled!! :/// Look, if you accidentally violate the presentation rights of another artist, you will only get a ban on a certain video - not the whole channel, right? !! So, I guess the reasons for canceling this person's channel are just personal, what else could it be ....? Anyway, that's my suggestion and ... you just do what you do best .. :) Cheers, man :)

@@sussychachi Vocal range isn't the only factor that makes one singer better than another. It mostly comes down to personal preference in the end, but how they execute the technique and other factors count as well. so having a higher range doesn't make someone better straight away
