Ed Coan said that he trained every lift with the same rep scheme leading up to his powerlifting meets. For example, his dips went from 8 reps one week, to 5 reps the next week, to 3 reps the next week, and then he'd hit his one-rep bench max at the powerlifting meet. He noted that he did this for ALL of his exercises though. Weighted pullups, skullcrushers, lunges, everything. His explanation was that he figured he was bulletproofing himself all around which meant he wouldn't have any weaknesses when he executed the big 3 lifts on competition day. Ed Coan's powerlifting totals were similar to other elite lifters in the 260 pound weight class when he was only 220 pounds.

The flaw in the Jeff Nippard short is assuming that a full stack is where progression ends. When I saw him do that rep on the leg curl I thought the same thing. it looked like a working weight, so why has he never done it? He preaches tracking every session. I track every session like a jabroni but that guarantees that if a weight CAN be lifted by me then it will be lifted because I force progressive overload whenever possible simply by looking at what I did last week. You can only sandbag for so long before the logbook catches up and you're forced to horse maximum tonnage to compete with yourself.

I really dislike how jeff calls himself "science based lifter". @MaxBadstibner3 ай бұрын
The problem with the term “science-based” is that it has been hijacked by dorks. Louie Simmons at one point was probably the most science-based name in the game. Books like “Science and Practice of Strength Training” are the literal backbone of modern day strength training modalities. If you periodize your training or use the principle of progressive overload, then you are using science. We should bring the gigachad science back and let the dorks argue over which attachment to use on cable pushdowns.
@mcfarvo3 ай бұрын
The modern formal scientific method has been applied to powerlifting as well, so Jeff Nippard could still claim when he was "powerbuilding" to be "science-based," but I get what you mean: he did horsecock heavy loads to build most of his muscle, not all the "optimal evidence-based" pencilneckology Eric takes issue with.

Actual mixing and mastering engineer here. No, the sound quality of nicer headphones is generally not noticeable. Some boutique brands like Focal or the higher end of Sennheiser are extremely good headphones, but I still don't think they're worth it. I double check my mixes on $750 Focal Celestees, but I work out with $18 JLab earbuds and I'm very happy with them. Like you said, the point is to get you hyped up to hoist hefty loads, not analyze snare samples.

i hate how people throw around the term body dysmorphia. real body dismorphia is related to OCD, OCD affecting 2% of the global pop, and I think body dysmorphia effects like 0.5%, its a real mental illness, some of these people with body dysmorphia can't even leave the house, and theres been cases of people picking at perceived "imperfections" like blemishes on their body to the extent that they bore literal holes into their flesh. it really belittles the people that actually suffer from this shit, same way people overuse the word PTSD just cus they got a bit scared onced. social media loves doing this to real shit

You are absolutely right about machine strength not carrying over to real weights. I had to try it out for myself, progressively overloaded up on the seated chest press several dozens of pounds over some weeks and after going back to bench zero strength gains carried overs. Seated press was a waste of time maybe unless I just used it as a finisher.

Hey Rick, I think you're missing the point about body dysmorphia. You can't compare trying to be the best in a sport (which is great) to juicing up and starving yourself to the point of destroying your body just to look bigger. Sure, there's weight lifting involved, but it's all about vanity and appearance which I think can fuck up your concept of what a normal natural body look like especially for a younger audience.
