@DC-zq3jf Жыл бұрын
Part of it is that Fouad is right and Dr. Mike is just better at arguing. Fouad had a good point that Dr. Mike is "the full ROM" guy, and has recently had to acknowledge the benefits of lengthened partial training based on the literature. Before, Dr. Mike was poo-pooing the idea of partials of any kind. The issue is that Fouad overplayed his rhetorical hand by saying that because bro-science guys got lengthened partials right, they were right about other things, which allowed Mike to retort that just because the bro-scientists got this right, doesn't mean they were right about anything else. That's why Fouad kept on fumbling trying to bring it back to Dr. MIke being wrong; but the issue is that Dr. Mike is a scientist, and is relatively cool acknowledging the benefits of lengthened partials given the current literature.

What Mike is saying at 11:40 is absolutely true by my own experience. When I started I was aware that training to failure as a beginner was much less intense than training to failure where I am now, 5 years in. I thought I was going insane in the gym during the first 2 years doing tons of sets to “failure”. Now that I’ve been training longer I can barely do 1-2 real sets of failure during each movement without completely exhausting myself. I slowly changed my intensity and amount of sets to failure I do over the past 5 years, but I haven’t seen a decrease in progress at all, if anything I’ve only seen my progress get better as I am able to reach failure faster and train quicker then recover for more time between workouts.

Yes! Back in the day when I was arrogant, young, and full of testosterone, I wouldn't dare lower weight. I'd actually get mad if I failed with less reps than 4 days ago, thinking that I didnt make progress. Not that I'm some guru but through decades, I've learned range of motion, stretch, less weight, form, and even work-arounds. When I listen to dr mike, it all comes together.

@WillThomas-hs3oj Жыл бұрын
There might be other variables, but i def think theres an optimal way for most ppl to lift and get results, theres always a more optimal way of doing something,and if ur goal is to get stronger and build muscle, there are def some key principles that ppl should follow

Learn how to do the movements correctly, focus on getting stronger on all lifts, eat enough good food, give yourself enough rest, basic principles is all im saying, not specifics

One of the biggest things many ppl dont consjder is genetics and test levels, those 2 things right there are gonna have a big impact on how your going to look and ur reslults same with food, youd be amazed the amount of ppl that eat like sht, and then wonder why they dont look good
@SCW_Fitness Жыл бұрын
@@WillThomas-hs3ojI agree there is an optimal way but what is optimal at one point isn’t always optimal. Analogy - you are digging for gold and have 3 dig sites. Dig site a has the most gold so you put most of your dig team there. Over time you accrue a lot of the gold and will actually benefit from going to dig site b or c. I see something similar with training. Perfect form is better and represents dig site a. However, results may slow down over time and you might be better off with a period of training where you go heavier and get a little sloppier. The physiological reason for this is that mechanical tension/force is the driver of muscle growth. Perfect full ROM will place more tension across an entire rep. However, a sloppier rep may lead to reduced tension across an entire rep but elicit a much greater peak force at a particular point within the rep. I think Ronnie Coleman’s rows were a lot like the latter example and it’s why his sloppy reps allowed him to stimulate his back so well. He also didn’t train like that all year!
