I started playing drums at 7 years old when my grandfather gave me a set of red sparkle Ludwigs. I grew up with the Beatles,(Ringo) Led Zeppelin,(John) all the wrecking crew songs(Hal Blaine) ect. but Jeff Porcaro has been my been my biggest influence over the years. Toto will always be my favorite band. Their music will never be topped. RIP brother Jeff

I have a crush on Jeff Porcaro. Like that low voice. He played drums for so many artist that I listened to. He's right on with all styles, ages, and singers/bands. Kenny Loggins, Boz Scaggs, George Benson, Jackson Brown, Steely Dan, Dan Folgelberg, and more who I saw live in concert. I look at the records and Jeff Porcaro all over my albums!

I heard Jeff live twice. I will never forget this. Jeff is groove. Doesn't matter if it is rock or soul or funk or fusion - Jeff makes it sound phantastic. That's his ability and that's why people wanted him to play on their records. They knew, they got a great track with him.

rick p sorry to correct you, he was not a rock drummer, he was The Drummer. Jeff may not have been the most technical of drummers. You just have to read the various interviews he has done, he admits this. But everyone else that has followed his music or has loved him for the musician he was, there is no better groove drummer ever! So many wanted to work with because of his "water tight as a frogs arse" groove. His playing on the Steely Dan album Katy Lied is the only Steely Dan album that didnt have the drumming over dubbed. His signature grooves of Georgy Porgy or Keep Forgetting are synonymous of his spectacular feel. Many have emulated him, but rarely can sit alongside and groove so well. So my friend, he needs t be acknowledged fro so much more than being a rock drummer. He his by which all others are compared.

He was special, not only as a drummer but as a person too. I wish he was taken away from us for a very good reason. Every time I hear 'Song for Jeff' I feel this sensation of something missing. I wish Jeff, Mike and Miles are somewhere in a good place together.

Klas Eronen I did not realize drumming was so physically demanding as Jeff stated. If one plays with force, yes. But, I have seen drummers who lightly prance on their kit delicately. But, Ringo has a young drummer next to him on stage. Levon Helm had Randy play next to him on stage. Graham Edge had a young guy play next to him on stage. So, I guess being a rock drummer is physically demanding. I thought Toto was a name taken from Dorothy’s dog in The Wizard of Oz. They wrote some good songs.

I've watched this heartfelt dedication several times from Jimmy Keys and my heart breaks every time I see it to know Jeff and Mike Porcaro are not with us anymore. It's a colder and lonelier world without them and we miss the music they would have created with so many diverse artists. Thank God for the catalog of music we have but the loss of the 2 Brothers still haunts me every day... I do hope they're jamming in Rock & Roll Heaven and having a great time with all the other greats up there!

One drummer who played with so much grace and feel and groove. The Groove Master for sure. There have been and will be faster drummers. But just like those who shred on guitar they leave such a bad taste in my mouth. Jeff would study with others to fine tune his craft. How many other musicians can state that? I think that Jeff was continuing to evolve. Not only the listeners and fans of Toto but so many other musicians have lost their chance of his deft touch with his drumming. Even with all the session work that he did with so many other great artist Jeff never seem to loose his joy and enthusiasm in playing what made his bread and butter.

There is something about Jeff P. is difficult to describe, but I think it has to do with the traditions and history of drumming. Drums can change everything. He plays (ed) with real backbone! I was always drawn to his shuffles on the radio now and back in the day, not knowing even his name or anything else. There is something indescribable about the power of drums and a certain magic some drummers have. He has it. Drums were certainly a war instrument that helped win many a battle. But there is much, much more. I admire him so much.
