Jeff, thanks for tire testing and sharing your data. Yes, I've wasted $$ on subpar tires. Slavens, solid resource, I spend $$ there.

The VE33s is my favorite. But I’m slow and unskilled. I really debated between it and the jx8, but at my skill level I’m not sure i would get the full benefits of the jx8. Also, i live on a budget and don’t have a warehouse of tires at my disposal, so i also wanted a long life tire. 😂

Everyone benefits from more traction.

I bought one of these from you when they first came out, and coming off a ve33s, I found the JX8 much much grippier and super traction, but does not last like the 33s for me in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Yet I’ll pony up for yet another JX8 as they offer me some of the best traction I’ve ever encountered on my TPI bike, period…

I did the same switch. Liked the VE33S a lot. On my second JX8 now. It’s crazy grippy. NE forest and coal mines.

Mark, I ride up in Mammoth a couple times a a year. I was looking at the JX8 and the VE33s as my new tire. Had the golden tire 216 and the side knobs are starting to crack after 300 miles and was wondering how well you liked the two IRC tires you have ridden. Thanks.

Absolutely love the JX8, but for longevity sake, it's the 33s.

Have you tried the AT81EX? I personally like it a lot better than the JX8. More traction and way more life yet its the same durometer. For me the stiffer JX8 carcass seems to deflect more and just doesn't grab the rocks as well. Also, the small footprint knobs round off so quick you don't get a lot of flat rubber on the ground. I like the Ibex better as well.
@slaverace13 жыл бұрын
Glenn: Thanks for the info but I'll have to disagree for riding in Colorado terrain. Yes, I've tried the AT81EX. Great traction but no better than the JX8 and the AT81EX only last about 100-150 miles where I ride. As far as deflection, there are many variables that effect deflection; tire pressures, TUbliss, boat anchor HD tubes and mousses. There is no deflection issue with either tire when using TUbliss with 5-6 PSI .

Thanks for the review. Gonna take that into consideration when I pick up a new tire. Thanks for posting!

If you like the jx8 and need a comparable FIM get the Michelin Enduro Extreme for any FIM event. It grips well.

Jeff, which is better in mud between the JX8 & VE33S? I assume the larger lugs with larger spacings of the VE33S probably help to dig and clear the mud better but maybe I’m wrong.
@slaverace13 жыл бұрын
Deep mud the VE33s is better but slimey mud on top of hard pack the JX8 is better.

It comes down to what terrain am I riding; I ride woods in North Georgia mountains - red clay. Depending on how much precipitation and how recent the precipitation determines is it dry, perfect, wet and slimy, etc. Based on that type of terrain, I would love sone feedback on which of those 3? VE33s?
@slaverace13 жыл бұрын
Monkey Man: It's been many years since I've ridden that red clay however I still remember it's best to stay home if that stuff is wet. You can't go wrong with any of the 3 but the JX8 will have the most grip.

Can you do a video on tire pplugging on the trail? I've gathered you're a tubeless guy. I'm curious your procedure and if compound affects your plug of choice. I'm also curious if your tire of choice is the same between Mousse and Tubless. Thanks for the great vids!! I'll be coming to you for tires, BIBs, etc!
@slaverace12 жыл бұрын
I already have a plugging video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZiXoqqgpb9lebM With mousses you can use whatever tire you want but with TUbliss you need to choose a tire with a good carcass that is less prone to puncture.

The jx8 and VE33s definitely are not and i suspect the shinko isn’t either. These are gummy-hybrid tires and wouldn’t last long at all doing pavement duty.
